This is What It Looks Like When You're Rich, Insanely Bored and Want to Buy a Congressional Seat for 'Democracy' or Something

Sean Eldridge, married to a co-founder of Facebook, recently moved to New York’s 19th district, inspired by several things; his wedding took place there, and he has ties to the area, but it is largely reported that he moved there from a neighboring district due to the ability to run for a Congressional seat. Hell, the New York Times did a whole piece on it for crying out loud.

Obama-piggybank George Soros and Sean Parker (the brains behind Napster and Spotify) are among the folks that run in this “man of the people’s” social circle. Many of his would-be constituents in a district of farmers, mill workers, and small-business owners are baffled by this moneyed carpetbagger besetting their quiet communities to “represent” their interests.
“It’s a little bit presumptuous,” Ms. Shields said. “In a community like this you like to know who your neighbors are. Having ties to your neighbors is important. How can he expect to represent people he doesn’t know?”
The blatant hypocrisy in the video above from the NRCC raises the question: Is this the kind of politician who can “bring change to Washington”?

But don’t think Eldridge can just buy his way into Congress, even if he wants to. He faces incumbent Rep. Chris Gibson, a “well-liked Republican and veteran of the Iraq war who lives in a modest home around the corner from where he grew up.”

Sounds like Mr. Gibson may have a better hold on what is good for the people of that community…
