    NEW IMMIGRANTS---A VERY INTERESTING LETTER

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statute of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them.
All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hilter, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan.
They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the
French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here.
These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl. And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed n Ellis Island in the early 1900s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life.
I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by
those waving foreign country flags. And for that suggestion about taking
down the Statute of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who
are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

I wrote this on another post , directed to an illegal that post here,

To Pilgrim , he seems like a decent guy with a nice family, and I bet he's a hard worker, but the bottom line is this Nation has laws, yes created by the legal and some maybe illegal immigrants that came here when there was no laws, the native Americans, had no way of an organized nation or laws or constitution up to a certain point they were savages, anyway the People that colonized, developed, killed the Natives, created the Constitution among other Good and bad things, came to Melt and forged a great Nation, that liberated the World from Facism, terrorists and dictatorships, in todays world we have laws that are part of a modern civilized Nation, and in order to maintain our safety and commonwealth

This laws must BE ENFORCED SO WE CAN AT LIST TRY TO GIVE OUR CHILDREN A FAIR SHOT AT SUCCESS AND THE PURSUIT OF THE AMERICAN DREAM, because so many peolpe are illegally immigrating here, this dream is getting diluted, never mind the dream, the cruel reality is our SOCIAL SERVICES , SCHOOLS AND MORE ARE OVERWHELMED WITH PEOPLE THAT DO NOT PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE, IT'S JUST A FEW PICKING UP THE TAB , AND THE REST ARE JUST FREELOADING, AND THEY LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK, THEY BRAG ABOUT NOT PAYING JACK S. FOR THIS SERVICES, MEANWHILE I HAVE NO HEALTH INSURANCE, I CANNOT AFFORD IT !! GET IT!! MR NEW PILGRIM, YOU SHOULD CAME HERE IN THE 1700 'S TO BE CALLED A PILGRIM, YOU MISSED THE BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I COULD INVITE A COUPLE OF FRIENDS OR RELATIVES TO STAY IN MY HOUSE FOR A FEW WEEKS, AND WE'LL MAKE IT, BUT IF 20 RELATIVES COME TO STAY IN MY HOUSE, NOT EVEN MY OWN CHILDREN WILL BE ABLE TO EAT, DO YOU GET THE ANALOGY??, IT'S ONLY ME WORKING AND BRINGING THE BACON HOME, AND 20 PEOPLE FREE-LOADING!!!
I will always Stand by the Eagle, I will never betray the Eagle, I am loyal to the Eagle!

Welcome DS - I don't think we've met. As you can see, I also live in "God's country".

That was a great post -- and a very pertinent one. Today's illegals have no concept of true hardships the way those old time immigrants did.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I'm getting sick and tired of this country being referred to as a land of immigrants. The people who have lived here for the past 2,3,4, or more generations are Natives> Period. End of story.

Besides that, show me one country in this entire world that hasn't been migrated into, conquered, or invaded, which pretty much qualifies the entire planet as a "land of immigrants".

That was beautiful and true. To diminish that is to make a mockery of America. That's why this new group if by some fluke are granted amnesty.....will never be an American.

Amen. To treat this new group as Americans would be an insult.

So their country is a out house, it does not give them the right to come here illegally! If this were the case three quarters of the world would be here!
Go talk to someone who grew up in south Africa and see what they have to say, but they, like everyone else has to wait in line to get out.

They think they're special cause they don't have to get on a ship to come here. They just sneak across the border. The really desparate people in Africa have no choice but to wait in line and pray.

My husbands maternal granfather brought his family to America when my husbands mother was six, from early Nazi Germany (1932), to leave before it got worse, and it did.

They were Americans after that. My husbands mother and aunt were put into school, immersed into English, and they did learn, within one years time. Yes they still spoke German all their lives, but only when they spoke on the phone or in letters to relatives still in Germany, even at home they spoke English.

They could not have come at a worse time, right in the middle of the Depression. The family struggled and made it. Nothing with these illegal "immigrants" can compare to those circumstances, nothing.

Nothing can compare to the hardships of my mothers ancestors, who came to an undeveloped continent in 1634. No hardships these illegals think they have endured can be compared to those ancestors of all Americans who came here and struggled to make this country what the illegals demand they have a "right to". They came here when this nation was fully developed, prosperous, fruitful and plentiful. They have not endured hardships, they might have known hunger, but even many Americans endure that.
