And now folks, for some Hollywood Hypocrisy ...
You can take all the sincerity in Hollywood, place it in the navel of a firefly and still have room enough for three caraway seeds and a producer's heart. -- Fred Allen
US radio comedian (1894 - 1956)
Only in Hollywood, folks.
Living here near tinseltown I have seen a lot of A-list Hollywood types offer their names to, and show up for, Illegal Immigration causes over the years. Hey, its to be expected. Hollywood is sacred ground for the Liberal elite.
But this recent news story ranks high in the legendary history of Hollywood Hyprocrisy. Here we go ...
A proposed law set to go before California's Legislature this month would make one of Hollywood's most cherished utterances -- "You're not on the list" -- carry some serious consequences. It's a measure aimed at making the act of party crashing a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both.
The bill is aimed at protecting such events as the Academy Awards, the Grammys, the Emmys, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The measure, AB 451, would expand the current definition of trespassing to include the intentional, unapproved entry into an event clearly advertised as off-limits to the general public.
OK ALI-PACers, here is the pièce de résistance -- The Screen Actors Guild, which sponsored the bill, described party crashing as -- a safety issue.
Get this quote from a SAG press release in support of the bill:
"Trespassing by its very nature puts people at risk. Illegal entry poses a threat to security and we feel that all event sponsors should have the full force of the law behind them in providing for the safety of their guests."
Don't you just love that? Only in Hollywood.
