Speakers ask for understanding

Student Body President Jasmin Jones speaks to a crowd gathered outside the Student Union on Thursday about recent student protests.

A gathering of student leaders Thursday calling for calm, reasoned dialogue in the face of opposing viewpoints was a stark contrast from the protests that spawned it.

And when Student Body President Jasmin Jones introduced Youth for Western Civilization President Riley Matheson, she told the crowd it was time to start practicing what they preached.

Well, good for the students, but they need to go to a faculty meeting and educate the UNC faculty on the US Constitution, in my opinion. It does little to have free speech advocates standing around talking to each other, they need to march down to the Department of Romance Languages and inform them that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated and ask for their resignations.

Great, so, are they going to PAY for Tancreado to come back and make his speech?

NO THEY ARE NOT, this is a load of crapoila people. There is no follow up. The only other alternative is to admit to outright thuggary on the part of the student body.

You're right and I agree 100%. In the first place, there is no reason on God's Green Earth for American students attending an American publicly-funded universisty to be a) against Tom Tomcredo or b) for the Dream Act, so they have been duped, brain-washed, paid or promised grades by faculty to participate in this attack on free speech, this disrespect against Tancredo, and take this pro-Dream Act position.

The university needs to investigate the source of this and ask for the resignations of the professors involved.

The professors where actually EGGING on the students at a PUBLIC FUNDED UNIVERSITY???

People, we are not outraged enough!!

People need to be arrested, and Tancredo needs to be compensated, and new LAWS need to be made about FREE SPEECH AND VIOLENCE on publicly funded campuses!

The University should be sued for civil rights breech!

Absolutely! And faculty promoting the violation of our laws, calling us racists and xenophobes and "hate-speakers" because we want our borders secured, our laws enforced and illegal aliens deported should be FIRED!

These egg-heads work for US, we pay their salaries, and fund their facilities and retirement and health insurance, and trips and conferences and book sabbaticals, and on and on and on, and the minimum that we should expect from such is while they are on CAMPUS, they abide our laws and Constitution, and teach their students to abide and respect our laws and Constitution. Period.

Off campus, they can do and say whatever they want on their own nickel.
