Obama’s new UN Ambassador pick supported invading Israel

If you thought appointing Susan Rice to National Security Advisor was bad, wait till you hear who Obama is tapping as her replacement at the United Nations. Obama is expected to nominate Susan Power to the UN Ambassador post.

    from Politico:

National Security Adviser Tom Donilon is stepping down after four years on the job and will be replaced by United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice — the latest in a series of defiant appointments likely to rile the GOP and fire up the Democratic base.

Obama will nominate Samantha Power, an anti-genocide activist and author who won a Pulitzer Prize for “A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide,” as Rice’s replacement.

Now, who is the Susan Power? She’s the one who called for the United States to invade Israel back in 2002.
    from White House Dossier:

The chair of President Obama’s new Atrocities Prevention Board once called for the United States to force troops into Israeli-controlled territory in order to end abuses she said were being committed by both sides in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

National Security Council Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights Samantha Power, who chaired the first meeting of the board Monday following an appearance by President Obama at the Holocaust Museum, said in a 2002 interview that ”external intervention” in the form of a “mammoth protection force” was necessary to separate the Israelis and the Palestinians. She acknowledged that forcing our way in was undemocratic but insisted it was necessary.

Susan Power is viciously anti-Israel and would pose a huge danger in the position of UN Ambassador. It’s like Obama isn’t even trying any more. Perhaps his strategy is is to muck up the Senate with so much controversy, they won’t be able to focus one any of the ongoing scandal investigations…

Radical left-wing Samantha Power representing the United States at the United Nations

President Obama Chooses Left-Wing Samantha Power For UN Ambassador Post

By Joseph A. Klein (Bio and Archives) Thursday, June 6, 2013

Samantha Power, who previously served in the Obama administration as Special Assistant to President Obama and Senior Director of Multilateral Affairs on the staff of the National Security Council, is President Obama’s choice to take Susan Rice’s place as the United States’ Ambassador to the United Nations.

Obama promoted Rice to serve as his chief national security advisor, a position that is more powerful than the Secretary of State but which does not require Senate confirmation.

In choosing the left-wing radical Samantha Power as our new UN ambassador, Obama is proposing to send to Turtle Bay a self-professed human rights activist with a long record of antipathy towards Israel and a blame-America-first attitude.

Power, for example, attended the 2001 Durban anti-Semitic hatefest that had the Orwellian title of the World Conference against Racism, yet was indifferent to the disastrous outcome of that conference. Just months later, during a 2002 interview with Harry Kreisler, the director of the Institute for International Studies at Berkeley, Ms. Power said that even if it meant “alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import” (i.e., Jewish Americans) the United States should stop investing “billions of dollars” in “servicing Israel’s military” and invest the money instead “in the new state of Palestine.” She also called for consideration of military intervention to stop alleged Israeli human rights abuses.

In her 2004 review of a book by the radical leftist Noam Chomsky, Ms. Power agreed with many of his criticisms of U.S. foreign policy and expressed her own concerns about what she called the “sins of our allies in the war on terror,” lumping Israel with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

In 2007, while she was Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School
of Government, Power gave an interview concerning the Iraq war during which she took a swipe at our special relationship with Israel. She said that our relationship with Israel “has often led foreign policy decision-makers to defer reflexively to Israeli security assessments, and to replicate Israeli tactics….” In her view, we have brought terrorist attacks upon ourselves by aping Israel’s tactics in contravention of human rights.

An early supporter of Obama in his first campaign for president, Power predicted that Obama could reverse peoples’ thinking about the roots of terrorism. “All we talk about is ‘Islamic terrorism’. If the two words are associated for long enough it’s obviously going to have an effect on how people think about Muslims,” Power said in an interview back in 2008. “But I think Obama’s going to do wonders for closing those chasms. Even just opening up a conversation is going to get us some of the way. And it’s not insignificant that he spent time in a Muslim country…”

As for what Samantha Power describes as the United States’ own negative image in the world, Power believes that the United States itself is largely to blame. “Some anti-Americanism derives simply from our being a colossus that bestrides the earth,” argued Power in a 2003 New Republic article. “But much anti-Americanism derives from the role U.S. political, economic, and military power has played in denying such freedoms to others… We need: a historical reckoning with crimes committed, sponsored, or permitted by the United States.” Power’s support for what she called the “doctrine of the mea culpa” no doubt inspired Barack Obama’s apology tours during his first presidential term.

Power also wrote that the United States, the “most potent empire in the history of mankind,” had come to be seen as “the very runaway state international law needs to contain.” Now, if she is confirmed by the Senate, Samantha Power will be at the United Nations to help that world body “contain” American power.

While Samantha Power served as Obama’s Special Assistant for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, she pushed the left-wing human rights-centered “Responsibility To Protect” doctrine that calls for outside international military intervention in the domestic affairs of a sovereign state when a state is found to be unwilling or unable to protect its own civilians from systematic violence. Under the banner of “Responsibility to Protect,” Power was a leading advocate in the Obama administration for U.S. military interventionin Libya. Such misguided intervention to force regime change, which Samantha Power is reported to also advocate for Syria, unleashed the furies of Islamist jihad on the people of Libya and ultimately led to the Benghazi tragedy on September 11, 2012, that cost four brave Americans their lives, including U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.

Palestinian jihadists will have the perfect dupe for their cause at the United Nations, with Samantha Power - Obama’s alter ego in hostility towards Israel - now representing the United States. The terrorists need only to use more rocket attacks against Israeli civilians to prod Israel into another operation in Gaza, for example, and exploit it in a propaganda effort to garner world support for an international response akin to the no-fly zone established over Libya.

Here is how national security expert Frank Gaffney described a scenario that might play out, based on what he calls the “Gaddafi Precedent,“ if Israel does not agree to unconditionally evacuate its settlements
or to remove its security forces, checkpoints and facilities from “Palestinian land” that Israel requires to protect its own civilians:

“Hamas, which controls Gaza, seizes this moment to forge a united front with Abbas’ Fatah…The unified Palestinian proto-government then seeks international help to ‘liberate’ their land. As with the Gaddafi Precedent, the first to act is the Arab League. Its members unanimously endorse the use of force to protect the ‘Palestinian people’ and end the occupation of the West Bank by the Israelis.

Turkey, which is technically still a NATO ally despite its ever-more-aggressive embrace of Islamism, joins forces with Britain and France, applaud this initiative in the interest of promoting ‘peace.’ They call on the UN Security Council to authorize such steps as might be necessary to enforce the Arab League’s bidding.”

If President Obama gets his way, Samantha Power will be sitting at the Security Council table, anxious to promote her “Responsibility to Protect” doctrine against the Jewish state and support the “will of the international community.” Unlike the case with Syria, which Russia and China protected with their vetoes, the Security Council could well coalesce, with Samantha Power’s support, around the “Gaddafi Precedent” against Israel if it does not immediately withdraw from all of the territory of the UN General Assembly recognized “state of Palestine” and lift its embargo stopping the smuggling of arms into Gaza.

A very scary scenario, indeed, but one of several bad outcomes quite possible to unfold with radical left-wing Samantha Power representing the United States at the United Nations.
