Watch Donald Trump's First Campaign Television Ad

    By RYAN STRUYK

    Jan 4, 2016, 7:35 AM ET

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has unveiled the first television ad of his 2016 campaign.

The real estate mogul said in a statement that he now plans to spend roughly $2 million per week on television advertising. The video will start airing in the pivotal early-voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire Tuesday, the campaign says.

"The politicians can pretend it’s something else, but Donald Trump calls it radical Islamic terrorism," a voice reads over pictures of President Obama and Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, as well as the San Bernandino, California, shooters.

"That’s why he’s calling for a temporary shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until we can figure out what’s going on. He’ll quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil. And he’ll stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for."

Trump is leading national polls by a wide margin, but is locked in a tight battle with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa.

"I am very proud of this ad," Trump said in the statement. "I don’t know if I need it, but I don’t want to take any chances because if I win we are going to Make America Great Again.”

Trump had already released radio ads in the first three voting states. Other major campaigns and super PACs have already spent millions of dollars on television ads in early states.

Here's the link to the ad:

    http://www.donaldjtrump.com/media/great-again-tv-spot

It doubles down on the Muslim ban until we figure out what is going on and on the wall that he says Mexico will pay for. It also shows using Patriot cruise missiles to take out ISIS from Navy carriers which was one of the most effective methods we used in the first Gulf War. That's the way to do it, if Russia can't or doesn't want to do it by themselves.

It's the first of a series of ads he plans to run in the early states.

Donald Trump Releases First Television Ad of 2016 Primary Season

    by Daniel Arkin

Donald Trump on Monday released his first TV ad of the primary season, and it runs through some of his most controversial proposals.
Donald Trump releases his first TV ad, pushes 'all the buttons' 2:24

"He's calling for a temporary shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, until we can figure out what's going on," a gravel-voiced narrator says in the 30-second spot. "He'll quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil. And he'll stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for."

The ad ends with a clip of Trump bellowing his familiar slogan — "We will make America great again!" — at a campaign event.

The ad, which was posted on Trump's website early Monday, will air in Iowa and New Hampshire starting Tuesday, the campaign said in a statement. Trump plans to spend at least $2 million a week on the ads, the campaign said.

"I am leading in every poll by wide, double digit margins. We have tremendous crowds, incredible support from all over the country and I am $35 million dollars under budget," Trump said in the statement.

"We have spent the least amount of money and have the best results and this is the kind of thinking the country needs. I am very proud of this ad, I don't know if I need it, but I don't want to take any chances because if I win we are going to Make America Great Again."

Trump's first TV ad hits major campaign themes
    On Politics
David Jackson, USA TODAY 8:51 a.m. EST January 4, 2016

Donald Trump's first television ad highlights some of the most provocative parts of his presidential campaign platform, including calls for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and a temporary ban on the entry of Muslims into the United States.

In the ad released Monday, the Trump campaign also criticizes President Obama and former secretary of State Hillary Clinton over "radical Islamic terrorism," and vows to "cut the head off" of the Islamic State and "take their oil."

"I am very proud of this ad," Trump said in a statement in which he noted he is leading many Republican polls. "I don’t know if I need it, but I don’t want to take any chances because if I win we are going to Make America Great Again.”

The Trump campaign said the ad will begin airing Tuesday in the early campaign states of Iowa and New Hampshire. In a statement, the campaign added that the New York businessman will be spending "at least $2 million dollars per week, with $1.1 million allocated to TV in Iowa and close to $1 million spent on TV in New Hampshire."

The Trump campaign has run radio ads in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina and said it would continue to do so. One new radio spot, the campaign said, features Kathryn Gates-Skipper, the first female Marine to serve in combat operations, who endorsed Trump at a November rally in Florida

Another new radio ad running in South Carolina features Nancy Mace, the first female graduate of The Citadel.

Donald Trump’s First TV Ad Focuses on Immigration

A ban on Muslim immigrations. A wall along the border with Mexico. Decapitating the Islamic State.

These were the dark themes featured in Donald J. Trump’s first television advertisement, set to hit the airwaves on Tuesday as the sprint to win the Iowa caucuses begins in earnest. Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential candidate leading most polls, said the ad would air in Iowa and New Hampshire.

“I am very proud of this ad,” Mr. Trump said in a statement on Monday. “I don’t know if I need it, but I don’t want to take any chances.”

The 30-second ad echoes the themes that Mr. Trump has emphasized on the trail and in videos that his campaign has posted on social media. It includes images of the San Bernardino, Calif., attackers, masked terrorists standing in front of Arabic script, exploding oil infrastructure and what appears to be throngs of Mexicans running toward a border barrier.

While other candidates and their “super PACs” have already been spending heavily on ads, Mr. Trump has so far avoided such investments because of the free news media attention he has garnered. He says that his campaign is $35 million under budget.

He said he was planning to spend $2 million a week on the ads to promote his message of how he would “make America great again.” Mr. Trump has previously run radio ads, but his claims about his past spending on such advertising have been overstated.

He said on Monday that he was preparing new radio ads to run in the first three nominating states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Pushing back against the notion that he is sexist, one of Mr. Trump’s ads will feature the first female Marine to serve in combat operations, and the other will be focused on the first female graduate of the Citadel.

Trump's First TV Ad Recaps His Greatest Hits

The Republican candidate will reportedly spend $2 million per week as the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary approach.
    Jan 4, 2016
    David A. Graham

The new Donald Trump ad has dropped, and it looks a lot like the old Donald Trump campaign. In fact, the TV spot is basically a greatest-hits package of the Trump campaign:

Radical Islamic terrorism! Ban Muslim immigrants! Cut the head of ISIS! Take their oil! Stop illegal immigration! Make Mexico pay!

This is Trump’s long-awaited entry into the big-time advertising game. He says he’s spending $2 million per week in Iowa and New Hampshire—although his campaign has promised to spend heavily before, and failed to deliver. Trump says he hasn’t bought any ads until now because he hasn’t needed them: He likes to brag that his campaign is $35 million under budget, and that his poll numbers show he doesn’t need the ads. But there’s been a nagging undercurrent of naysayers who point out that Trump has fallen behind Ted Cruz in Iowa and that there’s still no evidence that he has built a ground game capable of turning good polling into actual voters. (Maggie Haberman notes that she’s been hearing about his alleged organization for some time, but that no one has actually seen much evidence of it.)

According to Howard Kurtz, a slight majority of the ad spending is in Iowa, where polls in December showed him trailing Cruz by a few points. (There has been little or no polling since before Christmas.) The balance will go to New Hampshire, where polls show Trump with a double-digit lead.

Standard practice for presidential candidates is to use each major ad buy to push a new message: Maybe a set of ads designed to convey the candidate’s biography; maybe ads that focus on foreign policy, or on economic policy, or on social issues. Trump, as he has done throughout his campaign, eschews the usual playbook and simply resurfaces his biggest lines. Who knows what the Trump campaign is thinking, but this ad seems a somewhat grudging exercise: We’ll make an ad, but don’t expect us to do anything flashy. Since Trump’s message has resonated with many people so far, there’s some logic to it. Yet if the point of these ads is to win over new voters, is a recap of months-old messages the most effective way to do it?

Yes, it is. If ads work, then you take your message in ads to those who haven't heard them, people who don't spend a lot of time watching the news or on the internet. And if you're someone whose main political goal is to have prayer in school, then maybe these ads will help change your priority to creating jobs for Americans, your neighbors, perhaps even yourself, by stopping illegal immigration or keeping you safe and preserving your freedoms by tackling the foreign Muslim problem head on and wiping out the radicals.

And that's a pretty good days work for a 30 second ad in my book, with several more ads to come that speak to other issues Trump wants to address to make our country great again.
