Obama Team Celebrating NC's Robert Pittenger as new amnesty supporter!

I just got an email from Obama's team. They are announcing Robert Pittenger, a Republican sellout from NC, is on board with their illegal alien amnesty plans!

    Hey William --
In just the last few days, there was important movement on immigration reform from Republican representatives in North Carolina and Ohio.
On Monday, Rep. Robert Pittenger (NC-9) made it clear that he supports a pathway to legalization for undocumented immigrants, and recognized the economic value of that pathway. This was the first time he clearly articulated his position on the issue.
Just a few days earlier, last Friday, Rep. Pat Tiberi (OH-12) made an important statement, as well.
Rep. Tiberi said that he supports a pathway for undocumented immigrants, and DREAMers in particular. “These are innocent children who had no idea they were coming here (and who) in many cases, they have no other home,” he said.
Let’s get these representatives' backs and thank them for their statements in support of reform.
Click here to call and thank Rep. Pittenger if you live in North Carolina, or Rep. Tiberi if you live in Ohio.
It’s critical that we act quickly to thank representatives who help us move forward.
House Republicans have released their draft principles on reform, and we have to encourage them to keep moving this year. Every step is important, and the next few months will decide whether we succeed in passing reform in 2014.
Let’s seize this moment and thank Reps. Pittenger and Tiberi for these important steps forward.
    Thanks,
    Alida Garcia

I found this. Sounds like a little bit of double talk.

N.C.’s discomfort with immigration revamp might block it in Congress

    By Franco Ordonez
    McClatchy Washington Bureau
    Published: Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 - 3:00 am

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Richard Hudson opposes the plan. Rep. Robert Pittenger says border security must come first. But Rep. Renee Ellmers calls it a good first step.
Republicans in the North Carolina congressional delegation are divided over their leaders’ calls to pass legislation that would give millions of undocumented immigrants legal status.
Their mixed response is illustrative of the steep uphill climb Congress and the White House face trying to pass a major immigration overhaul this year. Without support from some conservatives in the south, a new approach to the nation’s immigration law is likely dead.
Two weeks ago, Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, unveiled his legislative template for an overhaul that would also strengthen border security and revamp the guest worker program.
But it has not gone over favorably in North Carolina.
“There is no rush to do a big awful bill,” Hudson said. “We did that with Obamacare. We did that with stimulus. Congress likes doing that way. But it’s not the best way.”
North Carolina’s newest House members have become some of its most influential voices and helped set a new direction for conservative leadership.
Hudson of Concord, along with another freshman N.C. Rep. Mark Meadows of Jackson County, helped lead conservative Republicans into battle over President Barack Obama’s health care law that resulted in a government shutdown.
Ellmers of Dunn has been described as the spokesman for the so-called Tea Party class of 2010. Rep. George Holding of Raleigh sits on the prominent House Judiciary committee that is leading immigration efforts.
Their growing prominence in the party and the push by industry for change has on made North Carolina a bellwether state on whether immigration can be passed this year.
Local group like the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and national leaders like former Mayor Michael Bloomberg have targeted the North Carolina members in hopes they can help convince leadership to bring a vote to the floor.
“We’ve had members of Congress on farms here, at tailgate talks on this issue,” said Larry Wooten, president of the North Carolina Farm Bureau. “The information is out there. I think our members of Congress know where we are. They’ve got to really step up now.”
It’s a message they will press in the coming weeks. Local farmers will fly into Washington this week to meet with their elected representatives. On Feb. 19, they’re holding a round table with Ellmers in the Triangle area. Additional February events have been scheduled in Hickory, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Durham.
Business feels they have developed an ally in Ellmers. She says she opposes “pathway to citizenship” or “amnesty” like other Republicans of the delegation. But she is the only one to join House leaders and publically call for legal status for some of the 11 million.
It’s a position that has brought her praise from the business community and advocacy groups, but also a heavy dose of criticism from challengers on the right seeking to unseat her.
But if an overhaul is going to be passed, or even brought to the floor, it’s likely more N.C. members will have to wade into such politically dangerous waters.
The White House threw its support behind the Senate when it passed legislation last year that would grant those here illegally a path to citizenship. It’s unlikely Democrats will negotiate with House members on any immigration bill that doesn’t at least offer some form of legal status.
Hudson, Pittenger and Holding say they understand the business needs and are in favor of updating the visa system so they can get the immigrant labor they need. But, like most of N.C. Republicans, they say they can’t support anything close to amnesty.
“I recognize that there are 11 million people here,” Pittenger said. “They have to be accounted for. And there is economic value. But I think there ought to be a way to bring these people out to recognize they are here and give them a basis to come out, but it has to be a thoughtful approach.”
Holding’s position may be closest to Ellmers. He says border security must be first and citizenship is out. But he would also “consider proposals that allow for some of those here, without status, to remain and work under limited conditions.”
Rep. Walter Jones of Farmville opposes any legal status. He said that would still be rewarding those individuals for breaking our laws and entering the country illegally.
Other North Carolina members spoke more carefully about immigration.
Rep. Patrick McHenry of Cherryville said he opposes any special status for law breakers that puts them ahead of those trying to enter the country legally. Rep. Virginia Foxx of Banner Elk said they’re against a path to citizenship. They didn’t clarify whether they would be open to some kind of legal status for the undocumented.
While there is no question the immigration system must be fixed, Rep. Howard Coble of Greensboro said “it is unlikely the newly- issued Republican principles will bridge the political gap among the House, Senate and President Obama.”
For that reason, many Republicans don’t want to debate immigration this year. They worry a drawn out battle over immigration would only divide the party and hurt their chances of retaking the Senate in 2014 midterm elections.
Meadows said one concern is any deal struck by the House will later be combined with the Senate version that includes citizenship.
On Thursday, Boehner shared some of that doubt that a bill could be moved this year. He blamed it on Obama and said Republicans don’t trust the White House will enforce laws on the books.
Even if Republicans felt better about their leadership’s principles, Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina doesn’t think legislation could be passed because of the ideological differences with the Senate.
But he disagrees with those who don’t want to even debate the issue. He said it’s good that Republicans are talking more specifically about what issues are important to them.
“If we don’t tell people what we believe, someone else will tell them what we believe,” he said. “And we won’t like what that looks like.”

We have received a very rapid response from Robert Pittenger's staff that detected this post online.

    Mr. Gheen,

Congressman Pittenger is opposed to amnesty.

We were surprised to learn from your recent post that FWD.us is announcing that Congressman Pittenger supports “their illegal alien amnesty plans.” Congressman Pittenger has consistently opposed amnesty, and just this past weekend sent the following newsletter to constituents. The second article details his position on immigration (border security FIRST, no amnesty, step-by-step approach instead of a massive Obamacare-like failure).

I’ll let you read his statement in his own words so that you are fully informed and understand Congressman Pittenger’s position.

We would appreciate you publishing his position in its entirety to clear up any confusion caused by the FWD.us e-mail.

Immigration Reform: Secure the Borders First

Congressman Pittenger is a strong supporter of legal immigration. In 2013, Congressman Pittenger became the first-ever Congressman to participate in a naturalization ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Charlotte. Click here for photos.
According to the Government Accountability Office, forty percent of immigrants who cross the border illegally are never caught.
Our porous borders are a big reason why previous immigration reform has failed miserably and why many current proposals will also fail.
Successful immigration reform must start with securing the borders. Until the borders are secure – and border states and local law enforcement participate in the certification – further immigration reform is just a waste of time.
    Once the borders are secure:

    • Congress must implement a fully-functional entry-exit visa tracking system
    • Modernize the employment verification and workplace enforcement process
    • Reform the legal immigration system to address economic growth and job creation opportunities.

Additional, necessary reforms to immigration policy should be considered once these initial steps have been successfully completed.
Immigration reform should not include amnesty. America is a nation of laws, and we function best when we apply those laws fairly and consistently. Those who entered our country illegally made the choice to break the law, and understood there would be consequences.
America’s immigration system is badly broken, but Obamacare shows that massive pieces of comprehensive legislation frequently create more problems than they fix. Immigration reform is too complex and too important to suffer the chaos of massive legislation that few read and fewer understand.
The House Republican Conference has adopted a set of principles to guide immigration reform which closely mirror the positions I have advocated for more than a year. While no specific details or legislation have been worked out, I am encouraged we are moving in the right direction.
A step-by-step approach is necessary to avoid unintended consequences.

Here is my response by email...

    Jamie,

Thank you for promptly contacting us about this matter. Yes, we were also very disappointed to see FWD.us celebrating Congressman Pittenger's comments about bringing illegal aliens out in some kind of fashion when current laws do not allow for them to be 'brought out' or 'accounted for' etc...

Please tell Congressman Pittenger that supporting our existing immigration laws and reigning in the Executive Branch are much more important to voters that lawmakers that want to rewrite our existing laws at the behest of big business and their 20 million illegal aliens.

Also remind him that the saying "Secure the borders first" actually means "secure the borders never!" American citizens are losing their jobs, taxpayer resources, and very lives to illegal aliens today due to unsecured borders and unenforced existing immigration laws.

If Congressman Pittenger supports the Obama and Boehner effort to legalize or chance the status of illegal aliens, the new group of 20 million prior illegal aliens turned into voters will prevent Americans from every have borders at all much less secure ones.

No more word games, enforce our laws now as the Constitution and Congressman Pittenger's oath of office requires!

    Sincerely,

I just sent this email to them this morning...

    Jamie Bowers,

We have heard nothing new since receiving this email from you claiming that Congressman Robert Pittenger is "opposed to amnesty".

Can you tell is if he has issued any press releases or statements that rebut or contradict the claims of the Facebook and Google backed group FWD.us made claiming Pittenger is on board with their 'immigration reform' amnesty plans?

Please let us know if Congressman Pittenger has made any effort at all, beyond your email to us in response to our online posts on this matter at www.alipac.us, to refute the claims of FWD.us that he is on their side?

We need a fast response to this question this morning please.

Looks like they want to call us liars!

    Jamie,

Your office's attempt to mislead the public claiming that our concerns about Robert Pittenger's support for changing our existing laws to accommodate millions of illegal aliens as 'lies' is a big mistake!

Your staff is telling people that the FWD.us email is a lie and that ALIPAC is lying and that you feel no need to clarify anything. After working closely with Robert Pittenger for many years, I am not surprised in the least by this insular and non responsive reaction from your office.

Well let me tell you something you can share with Robert Pittenger. I've lived all my life in North Carolina and was raised right next to your district! Your district is made up of Republicans that will not tolerate your support for a form of amnesty for illegal aliens and that is why your team is lying here today.

We are the nation's 3rd largest national organization fighting against illegal immigration and we intend to accurately inform the voters of your district that you are lying to people that write or call your offices.

Your district is now going to be the subject of my personal and sustained attention until your efforts to put my credibility in doubt are met with the truth enough times that people see your efforts for what they are.

You have absolutely no idea what kind of political firestorm you have just stepped into and trying to lie your way out and get away with this fraud you are attempting to perpetrate will not avail you.

    With great disdain,

    William Gheen

Congressman Pittenger’s position on immigration has been consistent since taking office and was clearly articulated in the public newsletter sent to his constituents on February 9th (also made available online and via Facebook). Having clearly stated his position on numerous occasions, he feels no need to respond directly to each and every activist group which chooses to make false statements, nor does he wish to legitimize inaccurate accusations.

On behalf of Congressman Pittenger, we forwarded you a copy of the public newsletter last week, which we trust you have read and shared with your readers.

Here is some of the kind of feedback we are getting from those that have called Pittenger to complain...

I called his office and mentioned that due to reports that he is now working with Boehner to pass "immigration reform," we will be supporting his removal from office via a primary challenger. His staffer appeared totally unaware of his shift. I read to her the letter from Zuckerberg. She thanked me for bringing this to their attention.
