Obama's Epic Rant on Trump's Populism

    Obama: Trump isn't a populist

    06/29/16 05:08 PM EDT

President Obama on Wednesday lambasted Donald Trump, disputing the notion that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has earned the title of “populist.”

“I’m not prepared to concede the notion that some of the rhetoric that’s been popping up is populist,” Obama said in Ottawa after a summit meeting with the leaders of Canada and Mexico. Obama did not mention Trump by name during his self-described “rant” that seemed to hit the GOP candidate because he has “never shown any regard for workers, has never fought on behalf of social justice issues” and instead has “worked against economic opportunity for workers and ordinary people.”

“They don’t suddenly become a populist because they say something controversial in order to win votes,” the president said at a press conference.
“That’s not the measure of populism. That’s nativism, or xenophobia, or worse. Or it’s just cynicism.”

Obama said his fight during his eight years in office for better healthcare and education for the underprivileged and his push to reform Wall Street shows he is the true populist.

“I care about people and I want make sure every kid in America has the same opportunities that I had,” the president said.

He added that others in his party, including presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, “genuinely deserve the title.”

Trump’s meteoric rise to become the GOP’s standard-bearer was built on a pledge to take drastic measures to curb illegal immigration, including the construction of a giant wall at the U.S. southern border at Mexico’s expense.

He’s also promised to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to try and get better terms for American workers. Those positions helped attract white, working class voters to Trump’s campaign.

But Obama urged the media to scrutinize whether Trump’s record actually makes him a populist.

“Where have they been? Have they been working on the front lines on behalf of working people?” he asked.

“Let’s just be clear: somebody who labels 'us versus them' or engaged in rhetoric about how we’re going to look after ourselves and take it to the other guy, that’s not the definition of populism. Sorry.”

Oh you stupid idiot, you don't know the first thing about what anything means. 8 years of you has proven that beyond any reasonable doubt whatsoever.

Thin-skinned Obama? Rants against Trump on populism

By Kelly Riddell - The Washington Times - Thursday, June 30, 2016

It seems like Donald Trump has gotten under President Obama’s skin.

Why else would Mr. Obama go on a six-minute rant against the presumptive GOP presidential nominee during a press conference on Wednesday? Mr. Obama tried to explain to the crowd exactly what populism was — and how Mr. Trump doesn’t deliver the goods.

“I’m not prepared to concede the notion that some of the rhetoric that’s been popping up is populist,” Mr. Obama said after hearing many Trump-related questions during a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Ottawa.

Mr. Obama then suggested that someone look up the term in a dictionary, then launched into a six-minute diatribe of why someone who’s “worked against economic opportunity for workers and ordinary people” can’t be a man of the people.

“They don’t suddenly become a populist because they say something controversial in order to win votes,” the president said. “That’s not the measure of populism. That’s nativism, or xenophobia, or worse. Or it’s just cynicism.”

Notice he didn’t say racism. Though you know he wanted to. That’s the something “worse.”

Mr. Obama then said he’s the one that really cares about poor kids, heath care, and fairness within the tax system.

“I suppose that makes me a populist,” Mr. Obama said. Good, glad that’s clear.

    But as for Mr. Trump?

“Let’s just be clear: Somebody who labels ‘us versus them’ or engaged in rhetoric about how we’re going to look after ourselves and take it to the other guy, that’s not the definition of populism. Sorry,” Mr. Obama said.

As for the correct definition? According to Merriam Webster, populism is defined as: “a believer in the rights of wisdom, or virtues of the common people.”

Sounds like Mr. Trump to me.

No doubt about it. He's our guy. He's the only person who has stood up for the common people of this country on the issues of trade and related matters for the past 30 years. It's why he been so reviled as a possible candidate by so many in the Establishment.

What a liar! He wants every American citizen and their children to be poor so he can redistribute the wealth & make USA a muslim, hispanic disease & crime ridden cesspool country - screw the founding fathers and all those that fought, died were maimed for America and others freedoms. Take their benefits as well as stingy medicare for seniors, cut to the bare minimum whilst illegals have baby after baby on us and muslims get even more plus $20k to $450k for TB treatment.

Next year his obamacare health plan is supposed to triple in premiums. Keep in mind when the refugees get a liver transplant, they pay $0 - not the case for Americans.

His fairness in taxes is to give billions in tax credits to ILLEGALS that count 10 kids even if in mexico and not their children - and they get the money too! In the country illegally, bogus SS# too.
You better believe a citizen is scrutinized to the max.
