One Million Vets To March On DC 10-13-2013
Before Its News
10/06/2013
One million Veterans are planning a walk on Washington DC to protest against this incredibly corrupt administration and how they are treating American vets since the US government shutdown began and what is happening to America. While Barack Obama has come out on the attack against US War Veterans, Americans are getting angry and getting organized. A going viral facebook page has been set up for the march, which coincidentally will be held on October 13th, 2013, the last day of a truckers shutdown America protest in DC as well. Two video reports about the march and protests also below.
A new rally is forming, “Million Vet March On The Memorials” that will be held 9am October 13, 2013 at the war memorials in Washington D.C.
The group is fed up with veterans being used as political pawns and are calling all patriots to attend, via their facebook page:
We are all military brats, current and former military spouses and some veterans. We cannot express how utterly disappointed we were that our Greatest Generation were being used as political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis. This should never be the case.
We do not care what political leanings you may be; be it liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent or whatever. The actions of the U.S. government this week with regard to barricading and shutting down the World War II Memorial to veterans, that may or may not be on their last trip to Washington DC, is a despicable act of cowardice.
Veterans this week were unwillingly pitted as pawns in this crisis. We feel that this should never be the case. This is why we will go to Congress after the budget crisis and ask for a bill to be introduced that would prevent any member of the government from closing our memorials down to any American, except for maintenance purposes. In the meantime, we will have our March in Washington DC on October 13th! Our veterans deserve that!

NBC: Police Remove Vietnam War Veterans at Memorial Wall
Via William Jacobson, NBC's affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that police ordered tourists and Vietnam war veterans who were visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to leave the memorial at one point on Friday.
After one group of veterans went around the barricade, "the park ranger told them the wall was closed," NBC's Mark Seagraves reported. "Later another group of vets showed up and moved the barricades. At that point, the memorial filled with vets and tourists. That's when police came and moved everyone out."
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a black granite outdoor wall on which the names of the 58,272 service members who died or were unaccounted for during the Vietnam war are inscribed.
It takes more manpower and costs the government more money to close down an outdoor wall than to let people walk past it and pay their respects.
The Obama administration has been very selective in devoting resources to shutting down memorials.

Arkansas Veterans Let Past Barricades At WWII Memorial In D.C.
Arkansas Veterans Let Past Barricades At WWII Memorial In D.C.
VIDEO AT SOURCE
LITTLE ROCK, AR- Their honor flight went on despite it being unclear whether the veterans would be allowed in.
They received a hero's welcome when the Honor Flight touched down at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C.
Then it was a day full of monumental sights, the air force memorial was open despite the shutdown, but the Lincoln Memorial unfortunately was closed.
Of course the most important memorial to these veterans is the WWII memorial.
The sign said closed, but that wasn't going to stop these vets who rolled past the barricades to the amusement of applauding crowds that gathered.
No one was going to stop them from going inside the memorial made for them. Meant as a quite place to reflect , on those lost, those met, those memories of the war many years ago.
"What do I remember about the war?" said Marvin Hill the oldest veteran on the trip. "It was a terrible thing."
Lloyd Kesterson remembers how close he came to losing his life during the Battle of the Bulge.
"When we got back to our foxhole lightening had struck the tree and stuck it right down in the foxhole," he said. "If we'd been in there we'd have been crushed."
Getting the chance to walk around the pool, read the etchings on the memorials walls, appreciate it all.
"Oh, it's just a great pleasure," said Kesterson. "A great pleasure."
Treated to applause and encouragement every step of the way.
On the flight home there were mail calls like they had in the service.
"Bill Hampton, is Bill Hampton here?" called an Honor Flight organizer.
But this time the letters were from school children, relatives, thanking them for fighting for our country.
Back in Arkansas there was an equally moving homecoming.
The end of a truly incredible journey.
"I just can't explain it," said Lloyd Webb. "It's just inside me that's all I know , I can't explain it."
This is the last honor flight to leave out of Little Rock, but there will be one more out of Bentonville.
This was the 9th time a crew was able to bring a group of veterans to our nation's capitol.

Ohio veterans conquer World War II Memorial
By Ben Yount / October 10, 2013 / No Comments
Part 41 of 41 in the series Shutdown 2013
By Andrew Collins and Benjamin Yount | Watchdog.org
WASHINGTON D.C. — It’s getting laughable now.
Another group of World War II veterans, this time from Ohio, chuckled when they were told the World War II Memorial in the nation’s capital city was closed.
The National Parks Service rangers told the vets the memorial was “officially closed,” but said anyone is free to “practice their First Amendment rights.”
Here’s what that looked like.
“Officially Closed”
One gate. No guards.
Seriously guys, we’re closed:
That looks like official government printing.
Closed? LOL
Overheard: “Anyone who wants to practice their First Amendment rights is welcome to come in.”
No government. No water fountain.
Glad to see they shut off the water before they shutdown the government.
Let’s go.
They beat fascism. They were not going to let a “shutdown” stop them.
Oh, hello, congressman.
U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Ohio, took time off from the shutdown to greet the vets.
Picture time.
This will look good on Facebook, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio.
This is why we are here.
They earned it. Now they are seeing it for themselves.
A long time coming.
This World War II veteran was awarded the Silver Star during the visit.
I do not care about your so-called “government shutdown.”
This smile says it all.
