Poll: Americans Disapprove of Romney’s Mideast Comments

Comments made by GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney about the current turmoil in the Mideast are earning negative marks from the public. Some 48 percent disapprove of his comments compared to just 26 percent that approve, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

The survey also found that the public approved of President Barack Obama’s handling the crisis by a 45 percent to 36 percent margin.

Romney was roundly criticized for his remarks about the protests in Egypt and Libya where four people, including the U.S. ambassador, were killed. Romney criticized the administration for what he said were apologies issued in the wake of the Cairo protests.

The poll of 1,001 adults conducted Sept. 13 through 16 found that 43 percent of Americans have followed the news about the attack very closely, making it the most closely followed foreign story of the year.

Americans disapproval of Romney’s comments and approval of Obama’s handling of the crisis spans a wide range of demographics including men, women, and young and old.

Is it just me or am I getting the feeling that Romney was pushed on us by the Republican establishment and the RINOs to insure an Obama win and then to setup a Marco Rubio run in 2016? Why else would they have him speak right before Romney at the RNC? If that is the case, then this country I'm afraid is in serious trouble. For a party to do this to the country would be considered treasonous no??? They've essentially tried to force Obama on us for the next four years. Not like Romney would have been miles ahead, but nonetheless, it would be considered a very shameful undertaking.

Actually I believe your close in my opinion the Bush family wants a Jeb/Rubio ticket in 2016 and 4 more years of a disasters Obama administration will assure a GOP win in 2016 I expect the country to be in such bad shape should be an easy run.

In truth both parties play a game 8 in /8 out otherwise the real race is congress/senate seats to control the money. McCain was a throw away he was going down in the first 3 rounds, the GOP will never produce another true conservative because those in charge of the GOP are progressives. Sadly a third party may be the only answer.

However this time the choice is clear for me lessor of two evils is Romney.

Actually the choice is becoming less and less clear by the day IMO. Romney's comments on Kris Kobach for instance seems to me as if he's attempting to disassociate himself from him and thus Arizona's immigration law, which is a bit puzzling given his "supposed" support for Arizona's law back during the primaries. Something is a muck in Romney's campaign and they may be laying forth the possibility of a policy announcement regarding the children illegally here. And then you have his confession to having consultants that previously worked for Netanyahu. Are these the same consultants shaping Romney's foreign policy and specifically that with Iran? Netanyahu was just this Sunday appealing to the us that our government is not doing enough on Iran. Me thinks he wants a Romney presidency to assure that the U.S., on behalf of Israel, launches an attack on Iran. This country cannot afford another war, and I'm not sure Romney NOR Obama fully understand that.

I am getting really nervous about the state of our country. Whoever wins, we're screwed and most Americans are simply oblivious to what is taking place thanks to many of those out of work and those who've lost all hope in our government as seen in the enthusiasm numbers for both candidates.

Not for me, the choice is clear, socialist or capitalist, I will go again with the capitalist and the lessor of two evils(Romney) since there is no other choice, I believe you have your mind made up as do I.

I'm with you oldguy ........ the choice is clear as a bell for me too. In my view Romney is the only real choice we have.

Well either way, good luck to us all which ever way November goes. This country is in for some real trouble. The only hope we have is if most Americans from both sides wake up in the coming weeks and perhaps just don't show up to the polls. What better way to show our dissatisfaction to Washington then to have no one come out to vote for them.
