Trump Supporter Says Mexican Restaurant Refused to Serve Her

    by JEROME HUDSON
    5 Jul 2016

An Orange County, New York woman named Esther Levy says she was kicked out of a popular Mexican restaurant called Cancun Inn Restaurant on Sunday for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and a Donald Trump for president button.

“I was shocked,” Levy told the New York Post. “She [the waitress who served her] seemed very surprised by it all and was told to refuse us service.

Levy, who was dining with retired local judge Alvin Goldstein, said, “We just got up and started to leave.”

Levy said someone claiming to be the restaurant’s co-owner chided her and Goldstein for supporting the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as they exited the eatery.

“On the way out, the co-owner decided to yell at me and humiliate me,” Levy said. “He said, ‘We don’t serve Trump supporters here. Get out of here and never come back.'”

Judge Goldstein told the Post that the man vocally supported Hillary Clinton, as they walked out of the restaurant.

“The man told me that Hillary was going to win,” Goldstein said. “I certainly won’t be back there. It was horrific what happened. I’m not used to being thrown out of restaurants.”

After being hit by a barrage of criticism on its Facebook page by users promising to boycott, the Cancun Inn denied Levy’s version of events and claimed she was asked to leave because her party was “rude” and “rowdy.”

Hello, this is Israel's son, Chris, posting this statement on behalf of my father.
"To the tens of thousands of customers who have supported us over 25 years of business in the Hudson Valley area, we have never, and will never discriminate against anyone based on race, religion, gender, sexual preference or political beliefs. There was an unfortunate situation that was brought to my attention yesterday where claims of discrimination were made by patrons of the restaurant. An employee of ours asked the patrons to leave because they were being rude to the staff and rowdy due to intoxication. I'm personally looking into the facts based on what our staff witnessed and what's been posted here on Facebook. I would like to speak with the customers involved so please call the restaurant so I can get your side of the story. My cell phone was also listed in a post so you can call me on either number. We will also be speaking with the local newspapers as they've expressed interest in the situation.
We've always treated our customers with the utmost respect and dignity — we have always treated them as one of the family. This business is our livelihood; something we've built from the ground up 25 years ago and take these allegations made against us very seriously. Thank you for reading this. I will have my son post another update once I have more information."

“An employee of ours asked the patrons to leave because they were being rude to the staff and rowdy,” read a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Levy took to Facebook and quickly denied the Cancun Inn’s claims, noting that she was booted for being a Trump supporter.

“That’s ridiculous,” she said. “They made it very clear why we were kicked out. It was because I was a Trump supporter, and that’s it.”

Normally open on weekdays, the Cancun Inn Restaurant was closed for business on Monday and Tuesday following the incident that occurred over the Independence Day weekend.

Levy said she was especially hurt by what happened because she supported the Mexican eatery for 25 years.

“I know one of the owners. He would greet me every time I came in,” she said. “I never had a problem. But he wasn’t there on Sunday, and I didn’t recognize this guy.”

I find it difficult to believe a business owner would kick a long time customer out just because she wore a hat supporting Trump. However, I don't find it difficult to believe a Mexican restaurant in N.Y. would discriminate against a Trump supporter. My guess is both parties share fault over the incident. The Trump supporter could have actually been rowdy and loud after a few drinks (been there, done that in my youth). Therefore, that could have been all the excuse the co-owner needed to exercise his bias against Trump by giving her and her companion the boot. Just guesswork on my part.

That is upstate NY, a bit different than the city. Anything can happen with a Trump hat and a Mexican Restaurant. I am not sure if I would eat the food though....

Anyway, they say one thing and she says another.

    Will there be a lawsuit?
