Washington Bus Driver Fired for Giving President the Bird

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A school bus driver who was fired for "flipping off" President George W. Bush is trying to get her job back.

The 43-year-old has filed a union grievance against the district, claiming wrongful termination.

U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert said the obscene gesture occurred as he was traveling in the president's limo in June on the way to a fundraiser in Medina.

At a freeway ramp the limo passed several Issaquah school buses. The students waved to the president and Bush waved back. Bush was having a good time until he saw the driver, Reichert said. Bush turned to Reichert and said the driver had flipped him off.

Reichert later called the school district and the driver was fired in September. A spokeswoman, Sara Niegowski, said the gesture was "not at all appropriate modeling for students on the bus."

The driver needs to file a court action. If both those guys would come testify it would be two known liars against the bus driver.

I'm sure the kids on the bus did not see the driver flip him off. However, now the kids know all about giving the President the bird because someone high up in government made a big deal about it. Besides, isn't flipping the bird free speech, in sign language anyway?

Bush, you really want to do something for the children, don't leave them behind. The ESL classes take funding away from American children. ESL has been the downfall of Texas Education! Look at the Test Scores in areas of high populations of illegal aliens.

Sorry, LL, but flipping the bird at ANYONE should be grounds for disciplinary action or termination against the bus driver. Heck, if a kid working at a fast food restaurant flips the bird while on duty he or she would be fired. Why should city employees be sheltered against the consequences of their unacceptable actions? I'm getting sick and tired of the decay of this nation into a moral morass in which anything goes. Whatever happened to common decency? This is even more true given that it was a school bus. What sort of example does that set for school children? Looks like the district's spokeswoman was spot on with her explanation of the firing.

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong decision. Fire her.

Hate him or love him, he's still the President of the United States of America. You don't have to respect the man, but I think we should respect the office. IMHO, the firing was the appropriate action.
