GIVING UP: Is Governor Hickenlooper Throwing Sen. Udall Under the Bus?

GIVING UP: Is Governor Hickenlooper Throwing Sen. Udall Under the Bus?

Will the DSCC cut its losses in CO?

Yesterday, we reported on emails between the Hickenlooper administration and the Colorado Division of Insurance in which the Division of Insurance told the administration that the number of cancellations due to Obamacare was firmly at 250,000. What nobody seems to have considered is that these emails were made public only because the Hickenlooper administration waived deliberate privilege, which is basically like waiving executive privilege.

This is pretty significant. Executive privilege exists so that heads of governments can have open and frank discussions about sensitive issues. And they did that because they prized their image as a transparent administration over additional email facts that paint liberal U.S. Senator Mark Udall into a cancellation corner.

We mentally bookmarked this yesterday for future reference, but we had no idea that Hickenlooper himself would throw Udall under the bus the very next day (today) during aBuzzFeed interview:

“I am concerned that it is going to be a difficult year for Democrats and I am going to be painted with that same brush,” he said. And while he pointed to a rare decrease in the rate of growth in health care costs as a sign that the Affordable Care Act’s cost-control measures are working, he says he doesn’t expect that to help much with the politics. He also said he doesn’t anticipate wanting President Obama (or any other out-of-state figure) to campaign for him.

“As a campaign thing, when I walk into a room and say how many people hate the ACA, half of the hands or two-thirds of the hands in the room go up,” he said.
The big question becomes, when will the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and it’s head, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) finally give up on Udall? Rumor has it (by that we mean Bennet was Hick’s chief of staff, in case you forgot) that Hickenlooper and Bennet are tight – is Hickenlooper paving the way for the DSCC pullout?

    "We've struck a nerve"

That was the deliciously appropriate subject line of a fundraising email Harry Reid sent out this morning, complaining about our ads that expose how corrupt Democrats like Reid and Mark Udall have accepted a sickening quid pro quo with San Francisco hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer -- they kill the Keystone XL pipeline, and he spends $100 million on their reelection campaigns.

    Here's Reid's email:

Of course, his claim is false -- we're running these ads out our own general treasury funds, raised from generous donors like you. But the even more amazing thing is that Reid would characterize our ad as an "attack ad," considering it actually starts with the line "Harry Reid is on the attack," and is told entirely by Harry Reid using his own words. If Reid has any concerns about unfair attacks, he should look in the mirror. Judge for yourself:

Interestingly, Reid's unhinged floor attacks on Charles and David Koch began just days after the infamous fundraiser and strategy session Senate Democrats attended at liberal billionaire Tom Steyer's house. Could the Koch attacks have been designed from the beginning to create cover for the monstrously corrupt quid pro quo arranged to kill the Keystone XL pipeline?

It certainly did help create a smokescreen that prevented this otherwise astonishing March 19 public threat from being a major national story:
“If we’re collectively going to put $100 million into this cycle, how much will go into key races depends on Keystone,” said top Steyer political hand Chris Lehane.

Perhaps our new Colorado ad hits just a little too close to home. Reid's email was sent out shortly after we announced it. Again, judge for yourself:

If you like the ads, please do donate to keep them going -- and we'll keep striking those nerves.

    Yours truly,
    Phil Kerpen

P.S. Whether you can donate or not, please do share these ads widely to expose the stunning corruption and hypocrisy behind Democratic efforts to kill the pipeline. Thanks!
