On Thursday, 22 Senators signed and delivered a letter to Pres. Obama warning him not to abandon immigration enforcement as suggested by a recent Associated Press story. You can join the effort by signing our new petition and showing your support for immigration security and enforcement.

The AP reported earlier this week that DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson is considering ways to suspend deportations beyond already existing policies that shield illegal aliens from removal. Despite the administration's claim of record deportations, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) has determined that only 0.2% of the more than 11 million illegal aliens living in the United States that had not been convicted of a violent crime were deported in 2013. Even the mainstream media has caught on to the administration's lax immigration enforcement efforts as detailed in Jeremy's recent blog.
Still, pro-amnesty groups continue to apply pressure on the Obama administration to stop ALL deportations. The AP report says that Johnson is looking for ways to shield repeat immigration violators or illegal aliens who fail to comply with a deportation order or miss a hearing from being removed. Further, the policies would likely shield illegal aliens who commit minor crimes such as driving without a license.
In the Senators' letter, drafted by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and included the signature of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, they charge that the policy changes would represent "a near complete abandonment of basic immigration enforcement and discard the rule of law and the notion the United States has enforceable borders."
NumbersUSA's Roy Beck told the Wall Street Journal: "Without the threat of deportation, no one will feel they have to leave. My question is: Is the only way to get deported if you kill or mug?"
When Congress returns next week, we'll launch a phone campaign to try and prevent Johnson's suggested policy changes from going into effect. In the meantime, we've posted a new petition that will be delivered to your three Members of Congress and Pres. Obama. Please add your name to the petition today!
