Fast food executive and former Labor Secretary nominee Andy Puzder said that opposition groups threatened his family during the confirmation process.

Puzder, who withdrew his nomination on the eve of his Senate hearing, told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday morning that he and his wife were subjected to serious threats after President Trump tapped him to lead the Department of Labor in December.

Puzder said he received packages and letters that went beyond typical hate mail or opposition post cards distributed by left-wing groups and unions. A hazmat crew and FBI officials arrived at his Franklin, Tennessee home to retrieve and analyze a package containing white powder that his wife had opened, he said.

"There was an envelope left at our house addressed to my wife that had white powder in it, a pink piece of paper with ‘Trump' written on it, and then obviously the white powder was in a plastic bag, but you open the envelope and a little powder came out," Puzder said. "We had an FBI terrorist team come to the house. We had a couple fire engines with hazmat teams come to the neighborhood."

An FBI spokesman from the Nashville-based Joint Terrorism Task Force said the agency does not comment on such incidents and could neither confirm or deny that the incident took place. A person familiar with the incident said it took place at Puzder's home on January 17.

Puzder is CEO of CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Hardees and Carl's Jr. He was the first career businessman nominated to the Department of Labor since 1981. Puzder said he withdrew after it became clear that he might not have the votes needed for confirmation, but he acknowledged that "the pressure on my family was really pretty tremendous."

Activists from Fight for $15, a protest movement backed by Service Employees International Union, demonstrated at Puzder's front door. His wife opened another package containing a noose, though Puzder did not witness that incident.

"I didn't see it, but I was told there was a paper-doll with a noose around its neck and there was—again, addressed to my wife, not addressed to me, which shows the cowardice of these people," Puzder said.

SEIU did not respond to a request seeking comment about whether the union condemned such behavior.

Despite threats to his family and company—organized labor filed more than 30 unfair labor practice complaints against CKE franchisees after the nomination—Puzder said his family supported him throughout the process. He said his wife urged him to move forward with the nomination.

"All of that [behavior] obviously intended to intimidate my family," Puzder said. "I actually said ‘look this is too much pressure on everybody. I think I should just withdraw my nomination' and she [his wife] said, ‘What, and let the bad guys win?.' She was very, very supportive."

One day after Puzder dropped out, Trump nominated Alexander Acosta, a former member of the National Labor Relations Board and dean of Florida International University's law school, for labor secretary. Acosta has since received endorsements from several major labor unions, though some groups, including SEIU, have promised to protest the nomination.

So those are the people Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski chose to run with and oppose or indicate they had "concerns" about Puzder.

Well, it's a shame in my book. I think he would have been great as Secretary of Labor, not because of his past views, but because of his knowledge of labor issues and how to fix them to go our way when that is the mission as it is, grow jobs and raise wages. He really knows how to do that in our economy without putting people out of business or causing plants and business stores to close.

From 2011, nothing has changed other than the number of illegals that are members. IMO
The SEIU, Illegals & ‘Human Trafficking’

We know that the SEIU wants to convert millions of illegal aliens into U.S. citizens. We know the SEIU’s goal is to turn those illegal aliens-turned-U.S. citizens into a “progressive voters.” We know that the SEIU’s membership consists of illegal aliens from whom they collect union dues because they say so—freely. We know that the SEIU does not want enforcement of immigration laws, be it in Arizona or elsewhere. Moreover, we know that the SEIU does not like losing its illegal dues-paying members because the SEIU wants ICE to target the “crooked employers” who illegally hire the illegal aliens (who aren’t SEIU members). Confused?

You should be confused. You see, the SEIU’s double standard is confusing, especially when an ICE I-9 form audit reveals that one half of a unionized janitorial company’s workforce in Minnesota may be in the country illegally and the SEIU complains that ICE should really go after other employers.

The janitors at Harvard Maintenance are represented by SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, local 26. Local president Javier Morillo says the audits of Harvard and ABM in 2009 don’t fit with ICE’s stated goal to “focus on egregious employers who not only knowingly hire unlawful workers but also exploit and/or harbor them.”
“The janitors of the Twin Cities that are in the union, they’re not depressing wages for janitors. They’re the highest paid janitors,” said Morillo. “There are janitorial companies that pay much, much less that actually depress wages that are not being targeted for ICE audits.”

The SEIU boss, Mr. Morillo further elaborates on his theory of enforcing the law, but not enforcing the law, by lashing out at his friends in the Obama administration:

Under the leadership of Secretary Napolitano the federal government has become an employment agency for the country’s worst employers. With each I-9 audit, the government is systematically pushing hardworking people into the underground economy where they face exploitation. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reports targeting egregious employers that exploit workers – but it’s become increasingly obvious that this policy is nothing short of lip service. Let’s be clear: I-9 audits, by definition, do not go after egregious employers who break immigration laws because many of them do not use I-9 forms. Human traffickers do not ask their victims for their social security cards.

Clearly, to this SEIU boss, the only way not to be a ‘human trafficker’ is if a company employs SEIU members who are illegal aliens, versus companies that hire illegal aliens who are not members. That sort of makes sense. After all, the SEIU gets its millions a year in union dues from the illegal aliens who work for the non-human trafficking employers versus nothing from the non-union human trafficking companies. As in the case above:
According to SEIU Local 26′s 2009 financial reports on file with the Department of Labor, dues charged to workers are between $26 and $47.50 per month, or an average of $36.75 per month.

It is safe to assume that the 240 illegals were paying mandatory union dues to the SEIU and, at $36.75, the SEIU was making nearly $9,000 per month–well over $100,000 per year–from these workers…until they were caught.

In addition, since the SEIU has no legal obligation to check the citizen status of its members (from whom it collects money from), the union collects its millions (at the national level) virtually risk-free.
That may not be human trafficking, per se, but it’s something.

This is the kind of stuff Andy Puzder knows about. The regulations on union dues should be no union can accept, mandate or receive dues from an illegal worker in the United States. You don't even need a law for that, you need a rule or regulation from the US Department of Labor that specifies such and also that no employer can deduct union dues from the payroll of illegal aliens or any other non-permitted non-citizen worker in the United States. Two sentence regulation. Problem solved.
