Also, a misconception that a lot of people have is that Mexicans are Spanish, which is a European country. No, they are NOT Spanish just because they speak Spanish. Mexicans are descendants of Mayan and Aztec indians. They are not European in culture in any way. The only reason they speak Spanish is because when the Spanish went to that area, they forced the Indians, today's Mexicans, to speak Spanish and convert to Catholicism. I get really peeved when I hear someone refer to a Mexican as Spanish. No, they are not Spanish.

Filipinos also speak Spanish, because they were a Spanish colony, but looking at them, they are clearly oriental.

Exactly. Russia lost 28 million people during WWII, the highest casualties of any nation. Without the Russians, believe me, we wouldn't be speaking English. Hell, we wouldn't even be here. The US and Western Europe owe Russia their lives and territories.

Russia is also the only country to decline US aid to rebuild after the war, every other nation took it in gobs. Russians are more like US than most people know because there's been this huge propaganda campaign to hate on Russia, to create an enemy where there isn't one, and never has been one.

There are government differences between our two countries that are growing more similar as the decades pass, but Russians had issues that probably required a very authoritarian government in order to survive. You can't lose 28 million people and recover without rationing, order, stability, and doing so with little money, foul, harsh weather, and defensive isolation for obvious reasons requires a different system than ours, so they survived the best way they knew how with the resources they had available. Russia didn't make US their enemy, we made them ours. It's a shame, too, all those years lost. I think Trump sees this and wants to fix it, make it right.

The French, British know the truth. All of Europe knows the truth, they've just been cowered by a military industrial complex in the US all these years. They know they owe their existence not only to the US, but as much to the Russians who got to Berlin before we did, and it's damn time they acknowledged that and acted accordingly, but they won't cross US, so we need to take the lead on this and let Trump try to set it straight, make it right, and start doing some smart mutually beneficial relationship-building with Russia. It will take some time to rebuild trust and common ground, but it can be done.

Yes, we would still be here and speaking English. Russia's actions weren't the deciding factor in our fate. Russia's losses in the war are irrelevant. Their suffered losses came from the desire for self preservation, not to aid America or any other country. The alliance with Russia was more a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" relationship vice a true friendship. The United States didn't trust Russia and Russia didn't trust the United States and the two countries were brought together by a common enemy, not a friendship. There was too large an ideology difference for the two countries to be real friends.

Russia is also the only country to decline US aid to rebuild after the war, every other nation took it in gobs. Russians are more like US than most people know because there's been this huge propaganda campaign to hate on Russia, to create an enemy where there isn't one, and never has been one.
The U.S. was Capitalist country, which means they allowed the people to have freedoms. Freedom of press, free elections, freedom of protest/speech, etc. Anything that was produced in America belonged to the producer.

Russia was communist and didn't give their people much freedom. If someone tried to protest, they would quietly disappear. The government controlled printed news media and during elections, it was the government that chose who would run and they had to be communist. Also, anything produced in Russia was government property.

I've only touched on a few differences to show how different we really were.
