Remittances to Mexico fell 5.87% in January.

    TRANSLATED FROM:
    http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/487669.html

For the first time in many years, the remittances that co-nationals send to the country have had a contraction in January, reported the Bank of Mexico.

In its report of "family remittances", the Central Bank brought to light that in the first month of the year, the country received 1.653 billion dollars.

The figure is lower in 5.87% compared to the 1.757 billion dollars that were registered in January of 2007.

The economic deceleration in the United States with the smaller home construction rhythm in the neighboring country and the measures against migrant Mexicans have caused a decrease in the rhythm of remittances, which contracted 5.94%.

The resources shipment average in January was of 341 dollars.

Since illegal drug money is often included in these remittances back to Mexico, maybe this signals that more smugglers are being caught.

In its report of "family remittances", the Central Bank brought to light that in the first month of the year, the country received 653 billion dollars.

The figure is lower in 5.87% compared to the 757 billion dollars that were registered in January of 2007.
$653 Billion in one month--I thought they get 23.9 billion a year.

    Remittances should be taxed.

Good, I hope it keeps trending this way. I'll be happy when the figure is 0 or negligible.

Geez, love how they call the money "remittances." It should be paid back to the U.S. where it was stolen from in the first place.

I'm confused, too. Sounds like this author meant "millions" not "billions"?

There is NO WAY the remittances are in the vicinity of "billions" in one month. Then the annual average would be out of this stratosphere. The annual average as it now stands is in the vicinity of 25 billion dollars.

When the figure is zero, it means we are growing or producing our own. We have the technology already. The war on drugs is a waste of money. It has never worked and never will. Did Prohibition work for the drunk?
