Corruption a large part of illegal immigration

The lesson learned is one very well known; “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Sadly, the very people charged with the responsibility of serving and protecting us are the most susceptible. Elected officials routinely fall prey to the lure of money and privilege. So too do members of law enforcement.

A recent story highlights the corruption which is all too prevalent on our porous border with Mexico, our friendly neighbor to the south who is all too willing to share her population and crime with us. It seems the Obama administration is considering “regularly rotating” border patrol agents to other locations in an attempt to distance them from the “persuasive power and money of Mexico's drug cartels.” Such rotation is already required among other federal law enforcement agents.

Corruption doesn't only manifest itself in the breaking of laws and bribery, however. It is evidenced in the day to day decisions made by business owners who place a higher priority on the welfare of their business than on the welfare of our nation. One such example surfaced recently in Kansas, where the Agriculture Secretary actively seeks a waiver allowing companies to hire illegal immigrants, under pressure from dairies and feedlots “desperate for workers.”

Yet another example of rampant corruption is our government's continued issuance of tax payer identification cards, disaffectionately known as I-10s, or ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers). These documents, issued by Uncle Sam's tax collecting branch, make it possible for illegal aliens to file tax returns. The IRS stands comfortably holding hands with alien apologists in their defense of these documents, reasoning that it allows a vehicle for the government to at least collect taxes on illegally earned income.

Of course, if the government makes it acceptable for an alien to file tax returns, there will be no shortage of businesses offering to assist at this time of the year. One of many such businesses would be Liberty Income Tax, in Wilmington, NC, who recently began advertising to illegal aliens by hanging a sign stating, “No reportamos su estatus a inmigracion.” Loosely translated, the sign states that immigration status will not be reported.

For those of you who've never visited Wilmington, it's an easily accessible port city. If you're vacationing in Florida and headed back home to the northeast, US 17 takes you directly to the home of the battleship North Carolina, resting nobly on the Cape Fear River, a proud testimony to American might and resolve.

Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say America's former might and resolve, as we show no current will or conviction to deal with the invasion of illegal aliens that continues to drain our resources and force cultural change upon us. North Carolina ranks as our tenth most populous state and she too struggles with the alien burden. A 2009 article addressing the alien problem pegged the estimated number of illegal residents of this beautiful state at 350,000, or roughly 4% of the state's population of nearly ten million.

Getting back to aliens filing tax returns, the last time I checked, there were countless other illegal activities which generate billions of untaxed dollars every year, such as drug sales, prostitution and identity fraud. All three are crimes frequently attached to criminal aliens, as well as citizens of the United States. So, if the government's reasoning is sound in providing a vehicle for aliens to file tax returns on illegally earned income, shouldn't we also extend that courtesy to the many drug dealers and pimps throughout the nation? How about a blanket number for organized crime family members? Just think of all the taxes that are not being collected!

Hopefully, the reader understands the last paragraph was facetious. Practically speaking, one way of generating taxes from even illegally earned income would be elimination of our current income tax, in favor of a sales or consumption tax. Law abiding citizens share one thing with the criminal element and that is the need to live. In the course of living, we all consume. Generally speaking, we must purchase that which we consume (clothing, food, etc). If those things that both lawful and unlawful alike consume are taxed instead of income (which only one of the two groups will report) a new stream of tax revenue is generated.

But I digress, as this article is not intended to explore alternative tax plans. Rather, its intent is to explore corruption, of which more exists in government that perhaps any other realm.

Instead of continuing on this course of folly and offering a modicum of legitimacy to people who are breaking laws, such as illegal aliens, why not instead deal with the problem, itself? Truly securing the borders would be one big step. Enforcing current immigration laws, including deportation of all aliens, without regard to how long they've been here, would be another. Yet another step would be stiff penalties for businesses hiring illegal aliens, as opposed to lobbying for their right to do so, as the Kansas Agriculture Secretary is now doing.

The porous border, issuance of tax numbers to illegals, businesses hiring and petitioning to continue hiring aliens, other businesses advertising to process tax returns for illegals (in Spanish, nonetheless), corruption among elected officials and law enforcement.............where does it end?

There is no immediate end in sight, sadly. But, the end can begin today, and it must begin with you and me. Remember, allowing a sin or crime to continue unaddressed doesn't make us caring and/or peace loving. Rather, it makes us complicit.

So, stop looking the other way, making those who refuse to assimilate feel comfortable. Hate no one because of their skin color or mother tongue, but it's your right to question if someone is here legally, or not. Begin reporting businesses who hire suspected aliens and landlords who rent to them. Refuse to support any business, church or other organization that caters to and/or protects illegal aliens, including those who promote a language other than English. Demand your local, state and federal governments offer official documents in English only; in fact, demand that English be declared the official language of the United States. Flood your elected officials' offices with calls, letters and petitions demanding deportation of all aliens and an end to acceptance of such such documents as ITINs. Demand as well that no special consideration for children of law breaking aliens is given, such as the DREAM Act would offer.

Petition and protest your local school district, demanding and end to the ESL (English as a Second Language) programs, which cost the American citizen millions each year. Demonstrate and protest any organization that hosts the Mobile Mexican Consulate, whose chief purpose is the issuance of Matricula Consular Cards to Mexican nationals who have no right to be here, and demand that businesses and utilities no longer accept such documents as valid identification.

Most importantly at this critical junction in our nation's history, educate yourself on the current field of presidential candidates and their disposition toward illegal immigration. Of the remaining crop of presidential hopefuls, all are flawed, yet one stands high above the others. He who next serves our nation as Commander in Chief must possess a steely resolve to not only end this invasion bur reverse it, which entails mass deportation. Remember, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

We know where the bad men. The questions are, where are the good, and are you one of them?

All among a long list of enablers of which there are many! How about unions, everyday citizens, and all kinds of business people who hire them, large business's and small one's. Law enforcement who look the other way when they catch them and allow them to pan handle on our streets and shopping centers. The list goes on and on everywhere you look they are there. In fact there are more speaking Spanish than English now. So much for assimilating into our culture. Enablers is half our country and getting worse.
