Can anyone dig in on this and do some fact gathering? This report just came in via email..

Last Easter Sunday there was a triple shooting by Hispanic gangs (illegal
aliens) on Coquina Beach (Bradenton, FL)in broad daylight, despite the
presence of over 50 cops and 15,000 innocent beach goers.

Coquina Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Bradenton/Sarasota area. Its is
in a very good area, located just a few miles north of Long Boat Key (an
area with many million dollar homes). I am a native Floridian, and our
family has spent Easter Sunday at Coquina beach for the last 30 years.
There has NEVER been an incident as violent or serious as this at any of
the beaches in our area. I am disgusted that the illegal immigrant gangs
are turning even our "safe" and good areas of town into the
Wild-Wild-West. This article from the Bradenton Herald doesn't truly
describe the fury and fear instilled in all the people running away in a
panic...and grabbing their kids. The shooting occurred on the beach
between the life guard stand and the bathrooms. The cops shut down the
streets in the area in addition to the beach. A riot almost broke out
amongst all the gang members.

I heard from one cop that the gang members
didn't want the shooting victims to be air lifted to a hospital. As
always, the article never mentions that these gang members are illegal
aliens. Ten years ago, I use to visit this beach all the time as a
young teenager...even by myself. It was always very safe....even on
Easter.

The shooters were from Plant City (Rene Vasquez-Mendoza, 22, and
Santiago Delagado, 21). I have phoned 5 Congressmen in the area. NONE of
them knew about this incident! The story has not been reported
much....guess they don't want the tourists to find out.......

Authorities today identified the victims of Sunday's triple shooting at Coquina Beach in Bradenton Beach as three brothers from Arcadia, and the two gunman as Plant City residents.

The victims were identified as Salvador Estrada, 27, Jose Estrada 21, and a third brother who was not identified because he is 17. All three were flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg in critical condition.

The suspects were identified as Rene Vasquez-Mendoza, 22, and Santiago Delagado Jr., 21.

Vasuez-Mendoza is charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder, carrying a concealed, improper exhibition of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm in public. Delagado faces the same charges except attempted murder.

Authorities said the brothers and the suspects were members of rival gangs and tensions boiled over before the shooting.

COQUINA BEACH - Regina Schultz and Greg Fagan shared a picnic table Monday next to an Australian pine bearing the remnants of yellow crime-scene tape.

Bethany Zmuda, Jenny Savol and Holly Green relaxed in their beach chairs where gunfire rang out less than 24 hours before.

Monday's calm, even under overcast skies, contrasted with Easter Sunday's gang shooting on a crowded beach, a scene Jay Moyles, Manatee County's Marine Rescue Division chief, called, "the worst thing I've ever had to deal with in 27 years."

Two Plant City men, Rene Vasquez-Mendoza, 22, and Santiago Delagado, 21, are in custody after the shootings. Both are allegedly gang members of El Norte.

Three brothers from Arcadia - Salvador Estrada, 27, Jose Estrada, 21, and a 17-year-old brother unidentified because of his age - remain in stable condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

According to Sgt. Lenard Diaz, of the Bradenton Beach Police Department, Salvador, allegedly a gang member of Sur 13, was wounded three times, Jose twice, and the minor once. They were shot with a .380 semi-automatic weapon fired allegedly by Vasquez-Mendoza, who was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Diaz said Delagado had a .22-caliber pistol he allegedly fired once into the ground, but "we can't confirm that."

Each suspect was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improper exhibition of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm in public.

Easter Sunday at Coquina Beach has historically been troublesome, officials said.

"This has been a constant for years," Moyles said. "We've had problems other holidays, as well, but Easter seems to be when we've had major issues. Instead of breaking bread with your family, you're breaking up fights. Law enforcement is put in a predicament, and so are my guys."

There was a law enforcement contingent of more than 40 on hand Sunday - from the Bradenton Beach Police, Manatee County Sheriff's Office, city of Bradenton and the Hillsborough County Anti-Gang Unit.

"There was a very, very, very strong show of force in anticipation of something happening," said sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow. "We've had problems out there before, but nothing like this."

Diaz estimated the beach crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 included 800 to 1,000 gang members.

"If you're Hispanic and you're Catholic, Easter is a very important religious holiday, so a lot of Hispanics come out to the beach," Diaz said. "The sad thing is, with the good, you get the bad. It's hard to protect the public when you've got 800 to 1,000 gang members spread out on the beach among approximately 15,000 people. We made ourselves present, but it just takes one knucklehead to mess up everything."

According to Diaz, the suspects and victims met on the beach, separated by seven to 10 feet, in front of the restrooms between lifeguard stands six and seven, which are about 225 yards apart.

"They started chanting back and forth, talking their gang stuff, showing their colors and tattoos, then . . . it escalated," Diaz said.

According to Moyles, the shooting took place "in the middle of the beach with people all around. You've got families down on the ground, screaming. Never in a million years would I say my lifeguards would be dealing with gunshot wounds on the beach."

Lifeguards Geoff Cordes and Alex Gardiner, both Iraq war veterans, were among the first to respond.

"Cordes recognized the gunshots, and radioed, 'We have gunfire north of stand seven,' " Moyles said. "It went quickly from there. My guys were driving south with their sirens on and the shooters were heading north. They ran east, jumped through the sea oats and were apprehended by law enforcement."

Capt. Joe Westerman, Lt. Collin Schmidt, Jake DuVarneay and Curtis McFee joined Cordes and Gardiner in administering basic life support to the Estradas until further medical help arrived. The brothers were eventually flown to Bayfront, while the beach was cleared and closed.

"People getting shot in paradise on Easter Sunday. It's crazy," Moyles said. "We've got to do something to protect our staff and protect our beachgoers. This crowd was geared for trouble. It just seemed like it was the type of thing that was going to happen even if there were 100 law enforcement out here."

Bristow said that's what frustrates local law enforcement's most concentrated efforts to deal with the chronic problem.

"We saturated the area about as much as you can," he said. "They saw what was out there - and they just didn't care."

Diaz agreed.

"Nothing scares them," he said. "You can talk to gang members 'til you're blue in the face. It's all about colors and tattoos."

Diaz said he questioned Vasquez-Mendoza about his need to allegedly bring a firearm to the beach on Easter Sunday.

"He said he took it for 'protection,' " the sergeant said. "Protection from what? He said to protect himself 'in case somebody tried to jump us.' It doesn't make sense."

Knuckleheads hardly describes these gang members.

At what point does this stop being about random crime and start being about domestic terrorism?

How many children could have been slaughtered had those 1,000 gang members all started spraying bullets.
We are no longer safe in America.
Our government has failed us all.
The police cannot do this alone.

Domestic terrorism sounds right to me! If this has been going on for years what have they done about it?

You know I think this equates to one group of people trying to violently eradicate another. I would say it's domestic terrorism except I suspect that most of these folks are not legal.

This is a big story, but so far it has only run locally in FL. It looks like the wire services are holding this story back just like the other major violence stories involving illegals.

8O OMG ...this will be the norm on our streets, cities and towns all across America if this goverment has its way!!! This is outrageous! :evil:

I guess for the illegals to acheive their American dreams, we have to give up ours.

Oh, I think the public is kept in the dark about a lot of things. God forbid they should give us information so that we could make an informed decision. They are like children who hide their faces in their hands and then think no one can see them. Violence does exist. We are all out here dodging bullets and you want to tell us to come to the parade?
I am sorry your beach tourism will take a hit this year but don't you think the public has a right to know that there is an expected problem there? How dare you endanger our familes for the sake of tourism?! I trust my own instincts and that of my husband. If my gut tells me not to go our send my kids...we stay home. Period.

It is my understanding that all of these gangs operate under the two major cartels fighting for control of the human and drug importing trade.

MS-13 or Mara Salvatrucha 13 is made up predominantly of illegal aliens from El Salvadore while SUR 13 is made up of mostly illegal aliens from Mexico.

The number of illegal alien gangs is high and many of them are federated. Here in NC there has been some new gang tags showing up called Folk Nation.

The Mexican Mafia's muscle on the streets of LA is the 18th street gang. It is estimated they have 20,000 members, 12,000 of which are illegals. It is my understanding that MS-13 and the 18th street gang are currently at war with the Bloods and the Crips. Once that's done, my guess is MS-13 and the 18th street gang will go to war. After that, who knows. The violence will never end if we don't get a hold of our gang and immigration problems :(

Easter weekend turned violent

An Easter party turned into a melee in east Hanford over the weekend, sending four men to the hospital, Hanford Police Department officials said Monday.

Raul Meza Lepez, 26, of Hanford, Miguel Barajas, of Hanford, and Delphino Barajas, also of Hanford, received stab wounds in a fight that broke out in the 900 block of White Street about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, said Police Sgt. George Hernandez.

A fourth man, Osvaldo Martinez, of Hanford, had a piece of glass thrown at him that speared into his chest, Hernandez said.

All four were taken to Fresno's University Medical Center for treatment, according to Steve Schmitz, a gang task force investigator with the Hanford police..

Lepez was treated and released, a hospital official said. The medical status of the others couldn't be determined.
Daniel Diaz, a suspected Norteno gang member, has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder with a gang enhancement in connection with the attack. Diaz is being held in the Kings County main jail in lieu of $1.6 million bail.

The gang enhancement alone could tack on 10 years to his sentence if Diaz is tried and convicted, Schmitz said.

The exact ages of Miguel Barajas, Delphino Barajas, Osvaldo Martinez and Daniel Diaz couldn't be determined Monday, but police reported that they are all in their 20s.

Diaz's tattoos, slang that he used and his own admission identified him as a Norteno member, according to Schmitz.

Police say they believe more than one person is responsible for the victims' injuries. The Kings County Gang Task Force is investigating the incident, Schmitz said.

The situation apparently began innocently enough when Lepez, the Barajas brothers and Martinez were celebrating Easter with several others at an outdoor party.

According to police, Diaz happened to be walking by and mistook laughter coming from partygoers as a personal insult. Attempts to convince Diaz otherwise were unsuccessful, and a fight ensued.

Others from Diaz' house down the street likely joined in the attack, police said.

As many as 25 people were involved, Schmitz said.

Martinez was injured when he tried to intervene to break things up, Hernandez said.

The fight was the only criminal disturbance of its kind on an otherwise quiet Easter in Hanford.

"It's not very often that we get a major melee like we had (Sunday)," Hernandez said.

However, police said reports of possible gang-related incidents are not uncommon in the east Hanford neighborhood and elsewhere.

"It's fairly prevalent in Kings County," Schmitz said.
