GOP House Principles: “National and Economic Security Depends on Illegal Alien Amnesty”

The House GOP principles on amnesty consists of the least surprising document ever because we all knew what was going to be in it. Some comforting and empty talk about security up front with amnesty buried at the bottom of the box. The good stuff is contradicted by the bad.

    For example,

For far too long, the United States has emphasized extended family members and pure luck over employment-based immigration. This is inconsistent with nearly every other developed country. Every year thousands of foreign nationals pursue degrees at America’s colleges and universities, particularly in high skilled fields. Many of them want to use their expertise in U.S. industries that will spur economic growth and create jobs for Americans.

There are plenty of things wrong with this, from importing terrorists to undercutting Americans, but it would be preferable to shift from an “Invite all your cousins” process to an employer based process. But we’re obviously not going to do that. Not if the whole agenda is to win over Mexican voters.

We’re not about to prevent people from inviting their relatives in and the bottom of the amnesty box contains a call for legalizing the children of illegal aliens.

One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents. It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children through no fault of their own

I don’t really recall that being a great founding principle. And the GOP insists on borrowing leftist rhetoric. No one is punishing the kids of illegal aliens by not legalizing them. They’re just not eligible for it. To become eligible, they would have to move back home and apply to immigrate like everyone else.

Not giving them a freebie is not a “punishment”. They’re not being punished because their parents came here illegally. But they’re not being rewarded for it either.

Our national and economic security depend on requiring people who are living and working here illegally to come forward and get right with the law.

    Do they? Really?

How will our economic security be improved by putting legalizing people who take out of the system more than they put back? Whatever taxes they may now pay will be offset by their Earned Income Credits. The odds of them covering their own benefits usage is nil.

As for national security, yes we’ll know who the illegal aliens in our country are, while encouraging more to come through their example.

The rest consists of the usual Rubio-Ryanisms. No special path to citizenship, just the plain one. They have to pass a “rigorous background check” just like all the terrorists who fly in here, they maybe have to learn to speak English, though everyone does for citizenship purposes except some who have that waived, they’ll have to pay a small fine and back taxes for income that can’t be verified and be able to support themselves… until they receive citizenship.

And they’ll still go on receiving state and city aid.

Also the enforcement mechanisms for this will be in the hands of Obama and Hillary whose commitment to enforcing our border security and immigration laws is second to none.

Finally, none of this can happen before specific enforcement triggers have been implemented to fulfill our promise to the American people that from here on, our immigration laws will indeed be enforced.

Right. Because once people have signed up and gotten their provisional legal status, the House will somehow unilaterally reverse that when Obama and Hillary’s officials claim that the border is secure but the GOP claims it isn’t.

The House GOP amnesty plan is as plausible as Obama’s economic plans.
