WASHINGTON — With Donald Trump working to keep his party unified in the government shutdown battle, some Senate Republicans have begun discussing expanding negotiations over the wall to include additional immigration issues, such as relief for DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The conversation, mostly involving Republicans, picked up steam on Wednesday as the stalemate over the government shutdown and the border wall showed no signs of easing. While the discussions might be aimed at solving a number of long-standing immigration reform issues, they also risk stirring a backlash from conservatives who believe DACA relief to be a form of amnesty, and on the left from those who don't want it used as a negotiating tool.
"There is some discussions about whether a bigger deal could be negotiated that would include money for border security," Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said after Trump met with Senate Republicans over lunch in the Capitol on Wednesday.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has formed a working group of senators to discuss a broader immigration deal. The starting point would be the Bridge Act, which provides legal work permits for people eligible for DACA relief in exchange for $25 billion for the wall.
Graham hosted the first meeting in his office Wednesday afternoon. Attendees included those who have expressed unease over the shutdown, including Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who has stepped into a leading White House role on the shut down, is also in attendance.
No Democrats joined the meeting but Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., met with Graham privately.
Manchin said Graham presented some ideas to move the negotiations forward.

It's so sad, they don't even realize there are no negotiations.
Trump has already won this, on December 19, 2018, when he tweeted, "military will build the wall."
He wouldn't have tweeted that unless that was what he was going to do. He's been working on this for months.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

I suspect the UNIPARTY all got together about a month ago and discussed how can we get this DACA thing through without upsetting too many. They decided to once again play pretend, to play fight and put on another kabuki show for the people. They decided to shut down the government and pretend to want a wall. Once again they decided the R's would pretend to want the wall and the D's would pretend to be against it. They would go all out, week end work sessions, a Fire-Side chat, complete with the rebuttal. Now, they think the people are bored, exhausted watching this kabuki show and are ready to move on. They aren't even starting the negotiation at full funding, oh no just 5 billion. What started out as a fight to stop an invasion, has turned into a finish giving the country away with nothing in return, and who is now leading the charge, why Lindesy and team. They're just sure they pulled another good one on the public, and are already planning their next move.

So House Republicans could prove to their constituents that Nancy Pelosi lied when she said Trump didn't even have the votes for the wall in the House from his own party during that on-camera negotiation at the White House when Trump said he would take the mantle for the shut down if he couldn't get the funding from Congress or the military. House Republicans were livid over that. They went to him, this whole thing was for House Republicans. They wanted a vote on the record proving they supported Trump and the Wall, that's why they did the Amendment for the $5.7 billion for the wall and $7.8 billion or whatever for the disaster relief that resulted in the shutdown when the Senate didn't have the votes to pass it. House Republicans promised they would have his back if he did it.
House Republicans may have his back, but they didn't have the votes in the Senate to secure the funding for the wall to end the shutdown and now they don't have the votes in the House or the Senate.
Why didn't Trump help the House, give it a few days and then end it on the Sunday before Christmas? I don't know. Probably because of negotiations going on elsewhere in the world and if he ended the shutdown in the midst of those, it might be misinterpreted as a cave or a fold, which would be the wrong message going out across the CORRUPT MEDIA worldwide.
It's the only reason I can think of.
Other than he decided to use it to somehow try to expose and destroy Chuck and Nancy.
But other than those two possibilities, I have no clue. It makes no sense at all. It's not a fight, it's a suicide mission going nowhere for nothing, while raising all these amnesty rats from the dead. Trump's smart, so he did it for a reason, but I can't figure it out.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

So he shut the government down ( not to stop an invasion, or do something worthwhile for the country) but to prove that Chuck and Nancy lied. Wow! what a reason!
We already knew they lied and most of us know Trump lies also.
So you are saying, this whole thing is for House Republicans. It is not about doing what is the best for the country, it just for the House R's, because they are livid, and they aren't livid because the country has been invaded, they're livid over the political show.
So you think he is using it to destroy Chuck and Nancy, WOW again what a reason to shut down the government, again, not what is best for the country, but a personal score to settle. You've got to Stand for Something or You'll Fall for Anything
