Trump up to 42 percent in national poll

Trump up to 42 percent in national poll

    By Jesse Byrnes

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has built a double-digit lead over his nearest rival, according to a latest national poll released Friday afternoon.

Trump gets the support of 42 percent of Republicans in the Reuters/Ipsos online poll, followed by Ted Cruz, at 32 percent, and John Kasich, at 20 percent.

Trump's lead in the survey had narrowed in recent weeks as he was criticized for a series of attacks on Cruz's wife.

The businessman earlier this week promoted a newly hired strategist to handle delegate efforts and other duties after his campaign manager was charged with battery last month.

Trump has sought to regain his footing in the GOP race as the campaigns turn their focus to New York, after Cruz's won the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday.

Most recent national polls have shown Trump holding a single-digit lead over Cruz.

The Reuters online poll of 626 Republicans was conducted April 4–8.

Thank God Trump is finally expanding his team and digging in for the battle of his life. Laying low right now is very smart and hiring Paul Manafort even smarter. This is the pivot I have been waiting for and the next couple of weeks should see a more prepared candidate with a higher understanding of what is necessary to win and the process that is required. He is beginning to listen because he understands the delegate game now and the expansion of his base. Ironically the top three candidates all have very high unfavorable ratings (Trump, Cruz and Clinton).

I agree with joe s. Laying low right now forces the media to focus on the other candidates and put their attacks on them. Today they've been going after Bill Clinton for his crime bill, Hillary for calling blacks "super predators", and Bernie for calling Hillary "unqualified". When Trump is out in the news he gets all the coverage leaving the other candidates unvetted and all their problems hidden.

As to the unfavorables .... I don't trust these polls on that issue. Look at the AP/GLK. Trump 26% favorable and 69% unfavorable. Cruz 26% favorable 59% unfavorable. Wait a minute I said .... where's the other 10%? Trump's numbers add up to 95%. Cruz's numbers only added up to 85%. Clinton's numbers added up to 95%. Only Cruz's numbers didn't add up to 95%, his added up to 85%. So where is the other 10%?

I like this Manafort guy from the interview I heard the other day. Lets hope he knows the delegates game and how to play it.

Nice post Artist. He only answers to Trump. Super Heavy Weight, will also recommend others to help Trump develop substance in his policies. His absence from the campaign trail is a super positive. He is jettisoning some of the behavior and antics that stirred up unnecessary controversy and adopting some new tactical behavior that keeps him focused on the prize. He can not get there without these necessary adjustments and most important additions to his team.

We'll start seeing victories in this delegate snatch game. Trump did good bringing on someone who really knows this game and how to win it. Plus a lot of these Cruz people think he can win in November because of some of these goofy head to head polls. Those are false, he can't win in November over Bernie or Hillary, and that will become apparent as time moves along. Trump is the only one who can win in November.
