Rhode Island Hispanic GOP Official Resigns Over Wilson!

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly and member of the Republican Central Committee says he has quit the GOP because he was embarrassed by South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's address to Congress on Sept. 9.

Wilson shouted "You lie," when President Obama said illegal immigrants would not receive benefits under his health care plan.

Ivan Marte tells The Providence Journal that Wilson's behavior was "shameful" and "uncivilized."

Marte says he has been disenchanted by the GOP since Gov. Don Carcieri ignored his advice concerning the 2008 executive order cracking down on illegal immigration.

State party chairman Giovanni Cicione says Marte's contributions to the party were valued and he's disappointed by the resignation.

He will be much happier in the Democratic party, especially since he has exposed himself. Liberals think Conservatives will flinch over emotional things like this. They just don't get it.

If he sat through the Dems voting down all the attempts by Republicans to put language in the health bill to not allow illegals to get coverage than I say, "Get out of the party. No one there needs your complacency."

I'm an Independent. Mostly because I couldn't take the insults that Democrats were screaming at me when I told them I was a Republican. Now, I actually like being independent because both parties need to clean up their act.

I will say this. Personally, I think the Republicans are doing a better job of trying to actually do something about this whole issue. Bush bailed on us, but the party as a whole actually has tried.

We NEED to vote all these idiots out. We can start with Pelosi, Reid and Boxer and go from there. What an affront those people are.

Good riddance! I think it's "shameful" and "uncivilized" to stand there as POTUS and flat out LIE to the American people!!!!!!!!

Is his name really Ivan? Sounds more like "Wal"- Marte.

From what I have been able to gather is that Marte is originally from the Dominican Republic, a professional banker, the father of seven, and very involved in the Hispanic community. He has been a Rhode Island-centric politico in their legislature, not the US Congress.
