Will Sotomayor Make Spanish An Official Language?

Will Sotomayor Make Spanish An Official Language?
    By Jared Taylor

I first recall it happening in the 1980s. You could always tell who liked the Sandinistas by the way they said "NicaRAAAgua," with an exaggerated Spanish accent.

Now Spanish pronunciation is everywhere. On National Public Radio, every Mexican name gets a rolled "R" and flat vowels.

No one does this with French or German names. Not even the wildest Francophile would pronounce Detroit or Illinois or Lake Pontchartrain the way the French do. But it proves you love "diversity" if you talk about Los Angeles the way a Mexican would.

Barack Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court wants to give us language lessons, too. We’re not supposed to pronounce her name the way an American would, with the accent on the first syllable and the last two syllables rhyming with "mayor," as in the mayor of Chicago. She insists on a Spanish pronunciation.

Zbigniew Brzezinski and Antonin Scalia don’t tell us to pronounce their names the way their Polish or Italian ancestors did. They are Americans and understand the way Americans speak.

Not Sonia. As she keeps telling us, although she is American-born, she is a “Latinaâ€

Latinos get into office to make this country part of Mexico ... this is their agenda!

One by one are finding their way in with a plan in mind

This will become a Latino country sooner than you think if you don't stop electing Latinos into office.

I tell you this knowing that I am a Latino myself~ FYI

I doubt Sotomayor would do that. She does not have a mexican agenda.

I think she would side more on the English immersion side.

I'm not so sure. History has many examples of 'Tribes' uniting to win power. It seems obvious to me that under the banner of 'Hispanic' that is what is happening today.

Ooops, I should have said under the banner of 'La Raza'.

    La Raza

She is a member of La Raza. These people only think of one thing, The Race. They are so stupid they don't know there are only three races.
    Negro
    Caucasion
    Asian.
There not a race they are only a culture. They used to be counted as white, until the La Raza groups were formed. They want to spread their culture and force the other races to bend or break.

Okay, I realise that this new judge lady is hispanic, but she is PUERTO RICAN, not mexican. I am half puerto rican, and I can tell you guys, puerto ricans HATE mexicans. They never get along, and its illegal immigrants from Mexico and their supporters that are shoving all hispanics into one group and making a bad name for us all, this annoys me, and alot of other hispanics. I dont know much about this lady, but I doubt she is in La Raza, there is no proof she is in La Raza either. La Raza is for Mexicans, they dont accept other hispanics. Mexicans are spiteful and particularily jealous and hateful toward other more developed latin countries, its a proven fact. One reason why Mexicans and Puerto Ricans have never got along well is because it has always been Mexico's dream to be united with America the way Puerto Rico is, the difference is, Puerto Ricans never flooded into america by the millions and demanded it or took advantage of anybody. My family and I went down to mexico for a weekend trip, and they could tell right away we were Puerto Rican, especially my mother and grandmother, since theyre 100%, from puerto rico. They are very hateful! Especially in the poorer northern areas of Mexico, where alot of the bad people are.

I'm not trying to say that any other latin country is better then another because that just simply isnt true. But I am tired of all of this crap that "hispanic" is now all lumped together, and suddenly people from Puerto Rico, or people from Spain are in La Raza, and have agenda's to Mexico, and Mexicans. I cant even understand what a Mexican says half the time, and I speak Spanish, Puerto Rican spanish. Why can't I understand Mexicans you ask? BECAUSE ITS NOT THE SAME KIND OF SPANISH. Its like the barrier between Portugease/Spanish. Mexican spanish is a whole new kind of confusing slang styled spanish, and the spanish language books that you buy at Amazon.com or whatever, dont even teach proper Mexican spanish anyways. So, why is it that all hispanics have to be lumped together? I know, there is a hispanic heirarchy, and the media is playing off it. Everyone knows how illegal aliens from Mexico are, everyone knows how they live. Now they have to take good hispanic people, and use them as a beacon for Mexicans in an unhonest and glamourus way. Thats a damn shame, and I'm sick of it.

This lady would not give up her career and make a mockery of our great law system, by pandering to illegal aliens, at least I hope. If she does, then she is just another example of how the latin american countries are taking advantage of america and attacking her while her back is turned. Then maybe, one day enough of us will take our home back. It's an ironic thing, in our country it is illegal to steal yet the very law makers are allowing us to be robbed. Shame, shame, shame.

Good point, littleirishgirl. People might share a language, but that does not mean they really like one another or are alike, and you find examples of that all over the world. An acquaintance I know that came here from Honduras (legally 40 years ago) is not really considering Mexicans as being part of the brotherhood. I can just imagine what the Spanish must be thinking.
Languages change all the time. On Smith and Tangier Islands in the Chesapeake Bay, you could still hear Elizabethan English (ca. 1650s) as these people were remote for a long time. In Estonia I was reading a magazine and I could barely understand what they were talking about as they had adopted Russian words during the Soviet era, and they adopted a lot of English--words like szam (jam--Estonians pronounce the j as a y--and the sz combination comes from Russian) or stopp (on stop signs).
Languages change due to circumstances, environment and culture.

The American Bar Association says that Sotomayor is a member of LaRaza.
