NC state senator openly welcomes illegals

Here is an e-mail I received from Ellie Kinnaird. She is part of the problem in this state. People in NC need to wake up and look at who they are putting into office. This is outrageous!

XXX- I am responding to you with a copy of my letter to the editor on the subject. I hope this answers your questions.
I am disappointed at the reaction to the announcement by the Community College system that they should admit students who are the children of undocumented persons. These are children, who through no fault of their own, were brought to this country. They worked hard in school and only wish to further their education. Some of the children were even valedictorian of their graduating classes, and yet there are those who would seek to deny them, and us, the fruits of their labors.
I am dismayed by those who ignore the facts about these children: they pay out of state tuition, which is $2000 more than the actual cost of a community college student's education. In addition, there are only 340 students out of a total of 271,000 students in the community college system. This is hardly denying a place to any North Carolina student.
Those who would pile on, ignore the line of Supreme Court decisions saying that schools cannot discriminate by denying services to aliens. This is no less than demagoguery, by using these children for political motives, instead of helping them to succeed and become contributing members of our society.
Finally, I am appalled at the venom and hatred directed toward innocent children. Thanks for the common sense of our Governor, President Lancaster and the two presidential candidates, Democrat Bill Richardson and Republican Mike Huckabee who see the true picture. Huckabee put it beautifully, "In all due respect, we're a better country than to punish children for what their parents did. We're a better country than that."
These are the U. S. Supreme Court cases where they have decided the government cannot deny rights for aliens It is the law of the land. Ex parte Virginia, 100 U.S. 339 (1879), (allowing benefits for alien immigrants). It was followed by Hernandez v. Texas, 347 U.S. 475 (1959), Graham v. Richardson, 403 U.S. 365 (1971), (Arizona welfare benefits), Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), (Texas school children), Ambach v. Norwich, 441 U.S. 68 (1979) (New York public school teachers unwilling to seek citizenship), Nyquist v. Mouclet, 432 U.S. 1 (1977), (New York higher education).
The following is my letter to the editor after all
I hope that you could find a more accurate and nuanced position on this issue.

    Sincerely,

    Ellie Kinnaird

"a bureaucrat in the administration of NC Democrat Governor Mike Easley has set policy by memo. David Sullivan has instructed all of our Community Colleges to admit illegal aliens!"

This is an absolute outrage. How dare this guy reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition! This pandering going on by politicians in this state to illegal aliens needs to stop now!!!
What's going on here in Carrboro regarding the open arms welcoming of illegal aliens is nothing short of criminal. The general assembly needs to enforce our immigration laws and put an end to this nonsense.

We really need to work on getting rid of these people. Our voters are apathetic... apparently the pro illegal lobbies are working 24/7 to own our state officials.

To my knowledge the U.S. Supreme Court has never ruled that illegal immigrants are entitled to a college education in the U.S. In Plyer vs. Doe the Supreme Court did rule that illegal immigrant children were entitled to attend public schools in grades K-12. Does anyone know something different?

Welcome Whoisthat. Unfortunately, a lot of people in Orange County agree with Kinnard. Any ideas about how to retire her would be welcome. Here is an email from I recieved:

Immigration is a hot topic this year, both nationally and in North Carolina. I have enjoyed learning about the role immigration has played in our history, to help place it in the perspective of today’s issues.

One of the driving forces over our history has been the need for a work force - usually at the bottom. Farm labor played a role in immigration when we were an agrarian society mostly from England. When industry developed explosively in the 19th century and early 20th century, cheap labor from eastern Europe and Italy were imported by the shipload. According to Mae M. Ngai, a University of Chicago History Professor, those immigrants were not considered illegal because of the few restrictions on immigration at the time. After one to five years, they became full citizens. ("Chinese were the exception, excluded on grounds of ‘unassimilability.'") Now we have a similar situation: our birth rate is low and we don’t have enough strong young workers to fill jobs that businesses need.

Many people are worried about immigrants from Mexico becoming citizens. Because it is so dangerous to get to this country, those entering illegally cannot go back to be with their families for years and years. Most do not want to stay permanently in the U.S., but because it is so dangerous to re-enter the country, the only good option is to bring their families here. Once established in the U.S., and children are born here, they have roots that compels them to stay.

In addition to being dangerous to cross the border, many are pressed into the drug trade by the "coyotes"as payment for their passage.

A possible solution would be to have open borders where workers could come when there are jobs, but go home at any time, including when they have sent back enough money to build their small house, grow vegetables and buy a few animals for a sustainable food source. That was the goal of the families we visited in Mexico. With NAFTA, we have the free flow of goods, but not the people who produce those goods.

People complain that immigrants are not paying for the services they use, the schools, medical care and services. But income tax is withheld from undocumented workers paychecks, but out of fear, they don't ask for any refund due. They also pay into Social Security, but can't get it out because they have false numbers. Sales taxes and property taxes on cars and houses, are contributed to our revenues.

I am disturbed about the denial of drivers licenses to undocumented workers. This is a safety issue since no license means no insurance.

The downside of illegal immigration is that it drives down wages for Americans. We have yet to find a decent solution without open borders to allow people to come when there is work, but go home permanently to their own country when there is not or they have earned enough to return to their homes.

Sounds like we have an "OBL" among us.

I'm sorry to hear that you stand firmly against the rule of law, usatime.

Welcome Whoistaht. If I were you, I would be lobbying the AG for NC. Isn't he suppose to make a ruling ? Is he up for re-election in '08. Tell himm illegal aliens do NOT have Constitutional rights and therefore are not entitled to a college education.

Legal, international students are, but illegal students do not have a legal "standing" in the USA.
