Seminal moment: Obama loses N.Y. Times

When the New York Times editorial board pronounces that Barack Obama “has now lost all credibility” on the issue of Big Brother-style surveillance of the American people, you know a seminal moment has been reached.
That’s just what happened this week as the establishment press’ “newspaper of record” and a champion of Obama policies published a blistering editorial called “President Obama’s Dragnet.”

Here’s how it began: “Within hours of the disclosure that federal authorities routinely collect data on phone calls Americans make, regardless of whether they have any bearing on a counterterrorism investigation, the Obama administration issued the same platitude it has offered every time President Obama has been caught overreaching in the use of his powers: Terrorists are a real menace and you should just trust us to deal with them because we have internal mechanisms (that we are not going to tell you about) to make sure we do not violate your rights.

“Those reassurances have never been persuasive – whether on secret warrants to scoop up a news agency’s phone records or secret orders to kill an American suspected of terrorism – especially coming from a president who once promised transparency and accountability.
“The administration has now lost all credibility on this issue. Mr. Obama is proving the truism that the executive branch will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it. That is one reason we have long argued that the Patriot Act, enacted in the heat of fear after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by members of Congress who mostly had not even read it, was reckless in its assignment of unnecessary and overbroad surveillance powers.”
This is one New York Times editorial I urge every American to read in its entirety.
It could mark the beginning of the end of the left’s love affair with everything Obama and open the door to a prospect that was once unthinkable – the impeachment of the impostor.
With at least one poll showing nearly half of Americans persuaded Obama should be impeached (and that one conducted before the latest stunning revelations), it’s time for a full-court press on these issues by the House of Representatives. Nothing else should occupy the time of the majority besides investigations into scandals ranging from Fast and Furious to Benghazi to IRS-gate to Reportergate to this fiasco of full-scale, Orwellian, police-state surveillance of the American people.
There is only one thing that can restore liberty and privacy rights in the country – the removal of the man in the White House who has fast-tracked this nightmare amid a reckless disregard for personal privacy, the Constitution and the rule of law generally.
The time for excuses, rationalizations and stonewalling is over. America is in crisis. As a nation we are either continuing down the road of tyranny under a rogue administration or we need to make a dramatic course correction.
It’s not enough to scapegoat other individuals in the executive branch or to offer up some sacrificial lambs.
A clear pattern of horrendous abuse of power has been demonstrated. It rivals anything previously seen in American history. It affects everything and everyone. It has changed the very character of our nation. It’s worse than anything imagined in the dark recesses of the minds of other would-be presidential tyrants.
Endless hearings and investigations and pleas for information are impotent responses to this kind of corruption and malfeasance.
Members of Congress have a sworn duty to the Constitution, not to political expediency or political correctness.
