Renee Ellmers (R-NC) has a challenger!

NC-02: He’s in! Duncan done testing waters, ready to tackle Ellmers in 2016

The worse kept secret in North Carolina’s Second Congressional District is finally out there for all to see: Chatham County’s Jim Duncan is coming after John Boehner and Kevin McCarthy’s favorite member of the North Carolina congressional delegation. Here’s what the retired entrepreneur and former county GOP chairman had to say today:

“I’m entering this race because I want to serve the will of the people. It’s time to listen to their needs, protect their freedoms and unite this district.I don’t need a new job. I want to offer up my talents so that I can serve my friends and neighbors in this district and inject some common sense into that mess in Washington.

Upholding the Constitution, attacking the debt, and building a strong America with protected borders will be hallmarks of my campaign. I don’t take this challenge lightly. The phone calls and emails have persisted, encouraging me to run in the 2016 election. The people have been asking. So, it’s time for me to respond. We have built a great team and are ready to go.

We are facing grave threats to our homeland and our freedoms. Fiscal responsibility is tantamount to our security. A secure border in the face of unprecedented threats is an obligation. An open border policy that places unfair burdens on the American worker and taxpayer is irresponsible. We have weakened our military, both nationally and in the district, and consigned many of our military families to the status of second-class citizens.

The pursuit of happiness and family are important elements of success for me. I believe that jobs and the opportunity to succeed, anchored by parent-influenced education, are key to putting America back on track. To have a strong economy we must embrace free enterprise.

What good is it to elect conservative politicians in name only if they are afraid to vote for conservative principles? Actions speak louder than words. The American dream and the American spirit must be rekindled, so that there will be something left for future generations in this country.

Trust is the basis of the compact I seek to develop with the people in the 2nd District. Too often we hear from Washington, ‘just give us a little more time—trust us.’ Well, trust is not something that’s just given. It’s earned. It’s time to stand up for our principles and values and not run away from them. We must rebuild trust between our citizens and their leaders. ”

Frustration with Barry Obama and the Democrat-dominated nation’s capital in 2009-2010 (right about the time the Tea Party rose to the surface) inspired the retired business leader to jump headfirst into politics.

Duncan is a very spiritual man who should appeal very strongly to Christian conservatives. His limited government, low-tax views also should make him very popular with Tea Partiers and libertarian-leaning grassroots activists. The GOP primary will be held in May 2016.

Now let us hope this guy is true blue on the illegal immigration issue and not a vote splitter that Renee Ellmers got to run to divide support from her much expected primary challenge for 2016.

People have really been after this guy to run against her. He almost did last time. I don't know where he stands on illegal immigration, but I believe we'll see a lot more integrity from him than we've ever seen from her.

Here's more info about him from 2 years ago--

Jim Duncan: A NC grassroots leader to keep an eye on

    by Brant CliftonApril 14, 2013

My diligent efforts to bring you the best intelligence and insight into Carolina politics put me into contact with a diverse array of people from across our two states. Quite a few folks recently have been telling me to keep a close eye on a fellow who is making a lot of noise — and, apparently, a lot of difference — at the grassroots level: Chatham County, North Carolina GOP chairman Jim Duncan.

All of this talk piqued my curiosity, so I decided to track Duncan down myself.

Jim Duncan, a New York City native, retired from his successful Connecticut-based computer disaster recovery business to Chatham County five years ago.

His parents were natives of Anderson, South Carolina. His father, following his military service in World War II, relocated to New York City where he worked as a NYPD detective. Duncan’s mother took a job on the wait staff at a Howard Johnson’s in the city. Duncan says he spent the first 12 years of his life in a Queens housing project, but later moved “uptown” to The Bronx.

Duncan arrived in Chatham County to find a dispirited local GOP operation and the county dominated by Democrats. Duncan said watching Big Barry’s FIRST State of the Union speech offered him an incredible bit of inspiration:

“I saw his arrogance. I saw him disrespecting the justices of the Supreme Court. In disgust, I took off my socks and threw them at the TV screen. At that point, I told my wife ‘We’re getting into politics.’ ”

Observers tell me that Duncan has had a remarkable positive effect on Chatham County’s GOP operation from the beginning. He was a leader in orchestrating a conservative takeover of the county board of commissioners and greater conservative representation on the county school board. The local party has also experienced great fundraising success, and has been attracting attention from state and national GOP and conservative leaders.

Duncan has knocked heads with Pittsboro mayor Randy Voller, the former county Democrat chairman and current state Democrat chairman, on a number of issues. While Voller seems to stick with the slash-and-burn style popular with progressives nationally, Duncan sticks with a cheerful Reaganesque “Morning in America” — style testimonial about the successes of conservative reforms on the local level and what promise they hold for the future.

Duncan is also a founding member of The Coalition For American Principles, a non-partisan citizens group devoted to the concept of limited government.

Duncan tells me he has been approached by prominent state Republicans and conservative activists asking him to run for the open NCGOP chairman’s post. (He’s respectfully declined those overtures.) Is there a political campaign in Duncan’s future? Here’s all he’ll tell me:

“We’re making great strides in turning things around here at the local level, and at the state level. There’s still a lot to do. As far as running for office goes, we’re going to take a wait-and-see approach.”

How many well known politicans from New York City can you name that don't support illegal immigrant amnesty? Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single one!
