Senate Intelligence Committee requests Trump campaign documents

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race, has asked President Trump’s political organization to gather and produce all Russia-related documents, emails and phone records going back to his campaign’s launch in June 2015, according to two people briefed on the request.

The letter from the Senate arrived at Trump’s campaign committee last week and was addressed to the group’s treasurer. Since then, some former staffers have been notified and asked to cooperate, the people said. They were not authorized to speak publicly.

The demand follows a Senate request months earlier for the campaign committee to preserve documents.

Dozens of former staffers are expected to be contacted in the coming days to make sure they are aware of what they are required to produce and how to submit those documents, the people added.

The letter was signed by Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the Senate committee’s chairman, and Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.), the committee’s ranking Democrat. Spokespeople for Burr and Warner declined to comment.

The request to Trump’s political operatives represents the first time that Trump’s official campaign structure has been drawn into the Senate committee’s ongoing bipartisan investigation. That investigation is separate from the federal probe being led by the Justice Department’s special counsel, former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III.

In recent months, several Trump campaign associates, such as Roger Stone and Carter Page, have been contacted by Senate investigators, but the campaign itself had not been asked to preserve and produce materials.

Trump’s campaign committee is now led by former deputy campaign manager Michael Glassner and John Pence, a nephew of Vice President Pence. It is based in New York at Trump Tower. Glassner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A White House spokesperson had no immediate comment.

Under what authority does the US Senate Committee on Intelligence have to request political campaign documents?!!! This isn't oversight of "intelligence", this is spying on a political campaign. Shame on you, Richard Burr. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

This is a witch hunt against our entire election process. It's a grotesque attempt at intimidation by the US Senate Intelligence Committee against political campaigns, political supporters, political campaign workers, political campaign donors. It's McCarthyism against the Trump Campaign. This has to stop. Right now.

I mean Americans get involved in our political process to work for and elect their candidates including our Presidential candidates. What are Burr and Warner trying to do? Make any and everyone who supported our dear President Trump afraid to get involved for fear they'll be called before Congress to testify, have their lives and private records subject to Congressional subpoena? Be framed for something by the FBI and their phony fake "intel"? WHAT ARE YOU MONSTERS DOING TO OUR COUNTRY??!!!

All because Hillary lost an election she wasn't fit to win to begin with??!!

On the day Rosenstein appointed the Special Counsel, the young man on Early Day on CNN was so excited he couldn't contain himself and he said "a whole town came together and conquered the White House".

Well, not yet.

But what a terrifying distraction to fixing our country. Now they're after Dana Rohrbacher to use the Russia thing somehow against him to steal his seat in California. Hopefully it won't work, but that's what the DNC and the most evil organization in the world, the Democrat Party, is up to. I mean when Bernie Sanders and Joe Liberman won't even align with them, you know you've got a BIG STINKER there.

Dana Rohrbacher was in the Reagan Administration that ended the Cold War and dissolved the Soviet Union, for God's sake.

When the Loons, Spooks and Crazies take over the US government, which is what is happening, we're over as a country. But for the election of Donald Trump, we were over anyway, but he won and he won because the majority of Americans in 30 states knew he was our last chance to save our nation.

Republicans have to pull together and fight this with all we've got and implore Independents and rational Democrats to join US.
