Walker, who officially entered the race for the White House a week ago, is leading Trump by 9 percentage points in the home of the first presidential caucus, in the Monmouth University Poll taken July 16-19 of Iowa voters.

The poll, which has a 4.6 percent margin of error, placed the candidates' support at:

    • Walker: 22 percent
    • Trump: 13 percent
    • Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson: 8 percent
    • Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 7 percent
    • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: 7 percent
    • Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: 6 percent
    • Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 5 percent
    • Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 5 percent
    • Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal: 4 percent
    • Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum: 3 percent
    • Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry: 3 percent
    • Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina: 3 percent

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former New York Gov. George Pataki, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore all received 2 percent or less of the vote as the first choice pick among Iowa GOP voters.

Walker also leads all the other candidates in every major category: among tea party supporters, conservatives, evangelicals, men, women, and among voters who are under 50. Seventy-three percent of Iowa Republicans also said they have a favorable view of Walker.

The Wisconsin governor has been the top pick among Republicans in the Hawkeye State since January.

While Trump has faced backlash following the comments he made about Arizona Sen. John McCain on Saturday, questioning his status as a war hero, the pollsters at Monmouth University noted that voters' support of Trump was mostly unaffected.

During the first two days of the poll, on Thursday and Friday, 13 percent of the respondents said their pick was Trump, vs. 19 percent who picked Walker. On Saturday and Sunday, 13 percent still favored real estate mogul, while Walker's support rose to 25 percent.

"Walker has been a favorite of Iowa voters ever since his well-received appearance at the Iowa Freedom summit in January," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

"More recently, Trump has outmaneuvered the rest of the field to earn the second spot despite his controversial statements over the weekend," Murray said.

The Monmouth University Poll director also noted that Jindal is now "among the top ten candidates in Iowa, but his showing in the national polls makes it unlikely he will gain entry to the first debate.”

It will be interesting if Walker becomes president if he drops his solid RNC loyalty or if he drops his new anti-amnesty stand. Not sure about this guy but time will tell. Plenty of time before the election and maybe we will finally get a third party (or more) and drop this horride imprisonment we are under called the two party system.

I read an article earlier that I can't find anymore that was saying Walker had said something about leaving and re-entering legally. I can't find the article now however so can't confirm. But to me that stance has always been a quasi amnesty where you kick them out but also a system to allow them to come back in after a short span as long as they fess up.

If someone else runs across the potential quote to confirm or deny would be good. It was supposedly during his recent trip to a farm.

Just about every politician has a short chain that the Powers that Be yank on. It is mostly because of the "power" of economic statistics. And I certainly don't argue that increasing immigration of all sorts---legal and illegal---makes the numbers improve. This, however, does not necessarily mean that quality of life is improving. For starters, even if the statistics and numbers seem to improve, inflation also rears its ugly head. We see that happening in our state with real estate values in certain areas going through the roof.

There ARE ways to improve your life---no matter what these economic indicators show. Unfortunately it is very hard to find a candidate who will buck them, when push comes to shove.

I remember reading that too. However, I didn't read anything about setting up a special system for them to return. Basically what I remember reading was that they all had to leave and get in back of the line in their own country to apply legally. Of course that means most of them will never gain approval to return.

Came back to edit this after finding the story you're talking about. There is nothing in the story about setting up a special system for reentry.

Doesn't mean he doesn't have a plan of that sort. After all what about all the illegal aliens with anchor babies. We know how they will cry when mommy and daddy can't get back into the country or even have to wait 21 years as some other countries have to do. Not sure where he really stands though and that is part of the issue. I don't think he has really laid down a specific plan on removing them and ending the magnets then with his comment on coming back legally makes me wonder if its just another BS *They have to leave, pay a fine, and then can come back legally* nonsense.

It also doesn't mean that he does. He didn't say "they have to leave, pay a fine, and then can come back legally." What he said was, "those living here need to leave and reenter legally." What that means is they must go through the legal process of applying for entry. Of course we know must of them would never be accepted for reentry. If they could get in that easy they wouldn't be pouring across the border illegally. Right or wrong, that's my read on his position. One things for sure, no other candidate has suggested such a thing. Even Trump recently said he supported an amnesty for those being productive and working hard.
