Tom Tancredo: 'I Just Don't Know' How Reliable Trump Will Be on Immigration

Tom Tancredo: 'I Just Don't Know' How Reliable Trump Will Be on Immigration

By Cathy Burke | Friday, 13 May 2016 09:47 PM

Former Colorado GOP lawmaker Tom Tancredo questions Donald Trump's resolve to solve illegal immigration – pointing to his choice to head a commission looking into the issue as "the mayor of the biggest sanctuary city" in the nation.

In an interview Friday with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Newxmax TV, Tom Tancredo, who represented Colorado's 6th congressional district from 1999 to 2009, said he worries the presumptive GOP presidential nominee's hardline stance is changing.

"I just don't know," he said of Trump's resolve to secure the border.

"I hope it with all of my heart. I want to believe it with my whole heart. He has said some things that make me wonder."

Tancredo pointed to the new committee Trump has described that will study the immigration issue – including the call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country.

"He's put [former New York City Mayor] Rudy Giuliani the head of it," Tancredo said. "He was the mayor of the biggest sanctuary city in the country."

Don't worry. Donald Trump wants this crap to end, he doesn't want our country spending federal or state money funding either immigrants or illegal aliens stealing jobs from Americans. Trump wants to balance the budget as soon as possible. Trump wants to have money for roads, bridges, airports, military and other infrastructure. Trump doesn't want to spend billions and billions and billions on illegal aliens and more immigrants. Who in their right mind would want to do that? Trump is in his right mind. He's going to build the wall, he's going to deport illegal aliens and he's going to pause new immigration. Trump is going to fix this free trade disaster and bring our jobs back home to put Americans back to work at good jobs they can live on.

Immigration makes no economic sense when you're country is already overpopulated and 94 million working age persons are no longer in the work force. Makes no sense. At all. Trump knows that and it's the reason he's running for President, to fix it, the fix this mess.

Good point Tancredo. Hope none of that off the record NYT's editorial board discussion with Trump is not true.

It isn't. This is the kind of stuff these snakes create an issue out of. For example:

"Mr. Trump are you really going to deport 11 million illegal aliens". YES

"What about the parents of American children who have been here for 20 years". As I've said, we're going to have a process where the good ones can come back on some basis. There may be some exceptions depending on the situation. We want to be humane. Blah blah."

NYT leaks "he's fooling voters because he's malleable on immigration".

These people are creeps. The NYT is the enemy of our cause and has been for as long as I've been involved with ALIPAC which is over 11 years.

It is certainly food for thought and I like to make sure I am not all in just on words. I like to see people do what they say and stay consistent.

I agree with you on that one. And Trump has more that just his words, he has over $50 million of his own money in this process, a lost top-rated Apprenticeship program worth a fortune, a lost contract with Macy's, and quite a few other losses, because of his immigration positions which have together with his attacks on free trade treason are the reasons he's won more votes in a primary season than any Republican candidate in US history.

I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder. I do consider actions speak louder then words. I saw an opportunity for Trump to take on a Sanctuary State and prove he wasn't all talk. But what we got was a candidate that could not handle protest by illegal immigrants and their activists groups. A candidate that canceled all of his rally's in California and tucked tail and ran all the way back to New York.

I know you are disappointed that Trump has not made very many visits to CA, but I was thinking that after Cruz and the other guy dropped out, it didn't matter anymore. He has the presumptive nomination and will visit the state when he needs to. Just an idea why he is not visiting the great state of California. I also think that the press on the protests by the illegal immigrants and their activists groups worked more against them than against the visiting candidate that caused all that un-American protesting which evolved more into chaos and third world country antics.

Trump comes to Ca. now just to meet with rich people who can give him money to spend in other states. JD2

"California is about to take on the role of general election ATM for Donald Trump."

“A typical swing through California shouldn’t get less than $1 million,” Thomas said. “That would be a good start.”

"Los Angeles Republican Party Chairman Mark Vafiades agreed Trump wouldn’t put it in play — its role is to raise and spread money throughout the country in key swing states such as Ohio and Florida."

Right Joe, because Cruz and the other dropped out California doesn't matter anymore. That is my point. I thought primaries were a chance for candidates to travel to all of the states. A chance to meet people clear across this country. A chance for the candidates to be basically interviewed by the people and a chance for the candidates to know and understand the people of every state. How many times have we heard Trump say he loved the people of a certain state.

California is a very large state with many different concerns. Californian's are not defined by LA or SF. To understand California a candidate would need to get out of the large cities and to travel through the Central Valley all the way to Northern California. They would need to understand and talk to the ranchers and farmers and people of these areas to understand that these people are angry. Angry that they feel they are not represented in California or even in the country. That even though they may cover the largest territory in California they are controlled by the liberal politicians in the highly populated cities. They feel that the liberal politicians in Southern California and special interest groups are stealing their natural resources, especially water and sending it to Southern California.

The only chance for California was to finally get a candidate that took the time to meet the people of California, to listen to us and to understand us and maybe even fight for us. But once again we get to watch as presidential candidates travel this country meeting the people and making them feel like part of the process and we are treated like the red headed stepchild. So excuse me if I am mad. I am looking for a president that can say he loves the people of California, because he has taken the time to meet the real Californians and anything less to me is a failure.
