Jay Carney Accuses GOP of Politicizing Scandals—Brings Up Birtherism [video]

White House press secretary Jay Carney caught the White House press corps off guard on Tuesday when he brought up the subject of Obama’s birth certificate, as an example of how, in his opinion, the GOP has politicized the various scandals engulfing the administration.

Carney was responding to a question that CBS’s Major Garrett asked about HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ efforts to raise private money from companies involved in selling Obamacare to the public:
Garrett: Do questions about HHS Secretary Sebelius and her efforts through the private sector for Enroll Now fall into that category?
Carney: We can go down a list of questions — we can say, ‘What about the President’s birth certificate? — is that legitimate?
Garrett: I’m not asking about that. It’s the last one.
Carney: OK.
The strain of having to constantly defend the administration’s actions in Benghazi—and regarding the IRS and AP—is getting to Carney, as evidenced by his bringing up the President’s birth certificate—an issue the White House worked very hard to stamp out—though it wasn’t part of the question.
Carney was quoted in The New York Times on Sunday as describing his job as “enjoyable” and “challenging.”
I doubt that Obama, or Carney, is “enjoying” Carney’s performance much lately.
