The Sooner Romney's Campaign Implodes The Better For Us

It is becoming clear to most of us now that Romney has no spine and will say or do anything to win with no real intention in actually following through. Example:today's response to Obama's immigration policy change:

If I’m president, we’ll do our very best to have that kind of long-term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of an act of their parents. Thank you.

Is he about to come out in support of Rubio's Dream ACT? Is this what this statement is about? What long-term solution is he talking about exactly?


Either way, the sooner he self-destructs and disappears the sooner we can get behind a different candidate that will have a better chance of defeating Obama. There is still time left, but we cannot afford to waste anymore time on Romney and assume he won't throw more surprises at us in the coming months.

Mitt Romney to Rick Perry: Psych!

On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security issued a new directive to allow undocumented students (between the ages of 15 and 30) to stay in the country and receive work permits. It doesn't provide a path to citizenship, and it won't do much to halt the record number of deportations, but as Adam Serwer explains, it's a big deal.

Now, via TPM, Mitt Romney has weighed in:

"It could be reversed by subsequent presidents," Romney said. "I would like to see legislation that deals with this issue. And I happen to agree with Marco Rubio as he will consider this issue. He said this is an important matter. We have to find a long-term solution. But the president’s action makes reaching a long-term solution more difficult. If I'm president, we'll do our very best to have that kind of long-term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of an act of their parents. Thank you."

Romney won't say whether his administration would undo the policy. But let's take a step back. This is the same Mitt Romney who helped run Rick Perry out of the presidential race by accusing of him being too soft on undocumented immigrants—all because Perry thought it was worthwhile to help undocumented kids go to college. This is the same Romney whose top immigration adviser, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, has made self-deportation the norm in states like Arizona and Alabama. (On cue, Kobach told Think Progress on Friday that the new policy is "illegal". Prior to today, Romney would have blasted "certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own" as a roundabout way of declaring "amnesty." But that was then. Without having the guts to state whether he would or would not revoke the Obama administration's directive, Obama has given a good shake to his Etch-a-Sketch—and what was once a clear and certain line has gone muddy.


Senator and Romney presidential campaign surrogate John McCain (R-AZ) said Thursday that casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is indirectly injecting millions of dollar in Chinese "foreign money" into Mitt Romney's presidential election effort.

"Much of Mr. Adelson's casino profits that go to him come from his casino in Macau, which says that obviously, maybe in a roundabout way foreign money is coming into an American political campaign," McCain said in an interview on PBS's News Hour.

Really, though? Inserting foreign money into an election is illegal. This was a big deal in the 1990s when foreign nationals were caught funneling money to benefit Democrats. But McCain is talking about something different. His argument is that Adelson is injecting foreign money into the campaign by...duping Chinese tourists into playing his slot machines. How, exactly, would one go about cracking down on this kind of thing? Would it apply to people who sell fake Rolexes to tourists in Battery Park too? With Adelson reportedly considering spending a "limitless" amount of money electing Romney, there's plenty to worry about, but McCain's barking up the wrong tree on this one. The true issue is not the source of Adelson's wealth—assuming his money is all legit—but the fact that one multi-billionaire can dump tens of millions of dollars, if not more, into the race and possibly tip the scales. This is not about China. This is a made-in-the-USA problem.

The problem is that a Romney flip flop on immigration, that we may well be seeing right here, or an implosion of his campaign will likely hand the Democrats control of the US House leaving them able to do about anything they want to us.

You've been against Romney from the beginning, Googler. What is it you're not understanding here? There are three choices, which are Obama, Romney, or no vote. Voting on anyone other than Romney will just assure another Obama term. After following you post over the last month, I'm starting to question your real motives. Are you an Obama supporter hiding behind your hate for Romney? Please help folks like me understand where you're coming from (honestly).

I'm seeing similar things reported on another anti illegal site. One reported hearing Romney say it. others are saying it too. Maybe the story by Tim Murphy is the source. I am looking for another source for confirmation. But, personally after Etch-a-sketch got into the commentary by a Romney aide, I have no doubt that the campaign's word is of no value.


I will not vote for anyone named Barack, I will not vote for anyone called Mitt. I will vote for Gene.

Well googler, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, I just happen to vehemently disagree with you. If Romney goes down so does this country. There are only 2 candidates whether we like it or not. That's a fact. Romney or Obama. I sure as heck would rather take my chances on a Mitt Romney presidency than another go round with the dictator we have now. There wouldn't be a snowball's chance in h e l l of taking back our constitutional republic, not to mention there would more than likely never be another election to vote his sorry arse out. I don't know what you have against Romney, but unless you are ready to give up your country (if you're an American), you'd better wake up and join us in the real world. As far as Romney's comments regarding obama's announcement today- Who the heck knows what he meant. he could mean anything from clarifying the existing law by actually enforcing it OR he could mean giving them the keys to the border gates while hanging a welcome sign. Who knows? Our job is to press him until we get an answer, while being unmistakably clear what OUR position is and what we expect of him.

Oh hell no. Obama-face is the one who is giving amnesty, yet Googler manages to somehow put the blame on Romney. No matter what he did or didnt say today, I still remember what he said in the past. He is better on immigration than any of these other clowns.

Woah, you've been following my posts? I am truly honored! If you want to look at my posts further back you'll note who I and others were gunning for during the Republican primaries, definitely not Romney. And an Obama supporter? Seriously??? Because of my legitimate criticism of an obvious liar who, if you do research, has changed his position on illegal immigration throughout his political career. People on other more Conservative forums are starting to see the truth, but it seems on this board where illegal immigration is the #1 issue, you want to give him a free pass. You want to simply beat Obama? Well this board is not called Americans For Beating Obama, it's American For Legal Immigration and Romney has failed to take a firm stance today on the latest policy change. Who cares what Obama has done. He was a lost cause ever since he came into office, what's the point in continuing to discuss his failed policies? Are we going to suddenly change his mind?

Both Obama and Romney want to start and continue new wars overseas rather than bring home the troops to protect our own damn borders, both are receiving big money from the very same wall street corporations that got this country into this mess we're in today, one unfortunately wants to ban gay marriage (WHO THE HELL CARES WHO PEOPLE MARRY), and both have flip flopped on illegal immigration, and so none of them can be trusted on anything they say.
