Thread: DUPLICATE ARTICLE POSTS ARE OUT OF CONTROL!

Friends,

Two days ago we started posting open notes on each duplicate article asking our supporters to PLEASE scan for prior copies of the articles.

It appears that many are posting articles without checking for duplicates and never checking back for responses to the articles they post.

Today there has been another wave of duplicates posted. Scanning for prior articles is simple and takes little time if you will do it.

Please help us reduce the number of duplicates.

Open posts stating your article is a duplicate will continue to be made by our busy moderators.

If this does not help then we will have to start doing something even stronger to try and keep our boards organized and efficient.

We realize duplicates will happen sometimes, but we are having over 5 duplicates posted per day!

Suspension of posting rights for a time on the 2nd or later offense is reasonable. This is your web site you have a right to force visitors to either obey your rules or stay away.

My two cents...

1. I can vouch for the fact that the search engine works well.
2. I have used it before to demonstrate how quickly I was able to find the dupe for others.

I'm not a moderator here, but I'll say it anyway...

Saying, "He/She is new to the boards..." is not an excuse. If you have a computer, and you've been surfing the Internet, in all likelihood you have used BBS's before and the "no dupes" rule is almost universal.

Someone catches you doing it, be sure to apologize...otherwise I agree - BAN!

Well, we dont want to discourage people too much. We want to encourage everyone to participate and learn the ropes.

It's great that so many people are working to bring info into our archives.... we need that.
