Since the Dec. 14 shooting, Newtown officials have publicly relayed promises from state lawmakers that Connecticut would contribute to the price of a rebuilt Sandy Hook Elementary School.
On Thursday, state lawmakers made good on those promises.
As one of the final acts of the year's legislative session, legislators included a package of up to $50 million for the new school, expected to be built on the site of the old school at 12 Dickenson Drive in Sandy Hook.

"Every one of us would give anything to go back to December 14 and prevent what happened that day. But we can't," said Gov. Dannel Malloy in a speech Thursday, according to the Hartford Courant. "The best we can do is to go forward in a way that honors those we've lost. And in the halls of the Capitol this session, we've seen that commitment to push forward."
In May, a townwide task force made up of officials from the Legislative Council, Board of Selectmen, Board of Education and Board of Finance voted unanimously to rebuild the school at the same site, a project estimated to cost between $42 and $47 million.
No word has come on federal funds, but at previous functions, Newtown officials have said federal lawmakers have told them they would help the town.
