The Republican establishment and its Big Business allies are about to join President Obama in his effort to remake America by legalizing millions of illegal aliens, but the only way that Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and leading amnesty supporter Paul Ryan can pull off this bloodless coup is to wait until after the 2014 Republican primary elections to move their amnesty bill.
Boehner, Cantor and Ryan should know how to read a poll and if they are looking at the data, such as a recent Quinnipiac University poll that shows voters trending against candidates who back amnesty by 9 points overall and by a whopping 39 points among Republican voters, they see that amnesty is deeply unpopular among Republican primary voters.

This, by the way, is a shift of 14 points or 50 percent from the results of the same poll conducted in May of 2013. In May of 2013 24 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who supported amnesty, now the number is 38 percent.

This explains why they want to wait until after the Republican primaries to move their amnesty bill, but what explains why they are willing to give up the rising popularity of the Republicans to join Obama in the remaking of America he promised when he was elected in 2008?

Could it be that voting in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens will move a large block of voters to support the GOP?

Not according to the Quinnipiac University poll.

The top three issues were the Economy, the Deficit and Health care.

A mere 5 percent of those polled rated immigration as the “most important priority for President Obama and Congress in 2014.”

For those identified as “Hispanic” the number was higher, 10 percent. But immigration didn’t make it into the top three with Hispanics either. The top three issues for those identified as “Hispanic” largely mirrored the rest of the sample; with the Economy (32 percent), the Deficit (20 percent) and Health care (21 percent) holding down the top three spots.

What explains the Republican Party “leadership’s” obsession with joining Obama in remaking America?
One thing and one thing only explains it, and FAIR’s Ira Mehlman, writing in Townhall, gets it right: follow the money.

It is, says Mehlman, still the surest way to trace the roots of a political disaster: Watergate, the S&L crisis, the mortgage meltdown, Obamacare, and just about every other avoidable mess that has shaken this nation over the past half century.

It will also be the surest way to trace the next political disaster if John Boehner and his inner circle of House Republican leaders decide to force through a package of immigration bills that include amnesty for illegal aliens, and massive increases in future immigration. The primary reason why Boehner and company might move on immigration in 2014 – perhaps the only reason – is money: lots and lots of it.

We agree with Mehlman’s analysis that granting amnesty to millions of people who broke our laws, who occupy millions of jobs in our economy, and who (along with their U.S.-born kids) consume billions of dollars in public resources, fails every test of good public policy, not to mention basic common sense. Vastly expanding access to new foreign workers at a time when more than 20 million Americans are either unemployed or underemployed, and millions more find themselves downwardly mobile, would pound the final nail in the coffin of our once robust middle class.

Nevertheless, that sort of immigration “reform” is exactly what business interests in the United States are demanding, and they are prepared to spend huge sums of money to get it.

As Ira Mehlman noted, The Wall Street Journal reports that the Chamber has set aside $50 million to “impose discipline” on Republicans who are not towing the Chamber’s line. Among the policy areas where the Chamber intends to impose discipline is in furtherance of their effort to “push ahead on at least incremental overhauls of the immigration system.” Given the resources of the Chamber, and the priority they are placing on amnesty and greater access to foreign workers, it is reasonable to assume that additional money could be forthcoming if it was deemed necessary to push their immigration agenda over the finish line.

The Chamber’s $50 million budget to steamroll politicians who try to stand in their way could be matched or exceeded by Mark Zuckerberg. Last fall, the Facebook founder announced plans to spend $50 million (his own and other tech titans’) to get an immigration bill through the House. Other billionaires, including George Soros, Rupert Murdoch and Michael Bloomberg, also stand ready to open their wallets.

President Obama and congressional Democrats have already chosen a side in the immigration debate: They’ll take the cash. They also stand ready to reap the votes of millions of future low-wage, government-dependent voters a decade or two down the line. A sizeable number of Senate Republicans have also opted to take the cash (without the prospect of long-term political benefits).

More recently, Speaker Boehner indicated where his allegiances lie when he hired Rebecca Tallent, a political strategist for a business lobby group, to be his immigration policy advisor.

Now it is up to the rest of the House Republican caucus to decide if they will follow the money and join Obama and Capitol Hill’s Republican “leadership” or follow their consciences and stand with America’s struggling workers and taxpayers to defeat amnesty and preserve what is left of American exceptionalism.

    The Judas Moment is coming

This article is about the biblical figure.

Judas Iscariot (right), retiring from the Last Supper, painting by Carl Bloch, late 19th century

Judas Iscariot (Hebrew: יהודה‎, Yehuda, Yəhűḏāh) was, according to the New Testament, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, and the son of Simon Iscariot.
He is infamously known for his kiss and betrayal of Jesus to the hands of the chief Sanhedrin priests in exchange for a payment of thirty silver coins.[1] Though there are varied accounts of his death, the traditional version sees him as having hanged himself out of remorse following his betrayal. His place among the Twelve Apostles was later filled by Matthias.
His name is often used to accuse someone of betrayal, and is sometimes confused with Saint Jude Thaddeus.
