    Minnesota in need of help.

    Hey all,

Need some help. I've been in contact for a bit with Steve Drazkowski of the Minnesota House of Reprentatives. He's been working on some of the issues were fighting against with illegal immigration and trying to get bills put up in MN as well as right now Republicans control both houses and the time for action is now. He's already expressed wanting to bring MN into the SB 2255 Border Fence Fund Act along with imposing heavy fines on illegal aliens caught in MN and business's. He is currently conducting research on the issues along with multiple reports he already has.

Now he's expressed his desire first to want to solve MN Budget issue and through emails has come to see illegal aliens themselves are a significant part of the budget issue.

With that one major statistic he's missing is the healthcare cost unpaid by illegals in Minnesota and the education costs which are both unaccounted for in an already $400 million cost to MN taxpayers for illegals.

So what I need help with is if anyone has any statistics or research on the cost of education and healthcare for either MN directly for illegals or any statistics based on population demographics of average for such for illegals. Such can also include but would be nice if specified if took into account *legal* children of illegal aliens as well.

I'll keep digging for info but if anyone else has any info it would be much helpful.

Steve Drazkowski has a number of Republicans who he's working with ready to back up such legislation. as well.

His email if any are interested in dropping a line and he's fairly good on replies:
    rep.steve.drazkowski@house.mn

    Thanks

The only thing I could find was from 2004. I mention this because 1/2 down the link has a chart of all the States. I couldn't get the chart to cut n paste so I got the head line. It does have some interesting stuff though and I hope it helps.

Providing K12 Education to Illegal Immigrants: Costs to States

The 1.5 million school-aged illegal immigrants residing in the United States4 and their 2 million U.S.-born siblings can be divided among the states using government estimates of the illegal alien population.5 Using each state’s per-pupil expenditure reported by the U.S. Department of Education,6 cost estimates for educating illegal immigrants in each state are shown below.

I'll stop after this. I'm not sure if this will help or not but I haven't seen it before so I'll pass it along.

Under the 1982 Plyler v. Doe Supreme Court ruling, illegal alien students are entitled to enroll in our public schools at taxpayer expense.

However, written into the decision is the following: Congress can reverse the decision if these illegal alien students prove to be a financial hardship to taxpayers and if the students who are legally residing in the United States begin to have their own education negatively impacted by the presence of illegal alien students. Both of these conditions apply today, and it is time to reconsider this decision. Included in the decision are the following statements by the Justices:

If the Federal Government, properly chargeable with deporting illegal aliens, fails to do so, it should bear the burdens of their presence here. Surely if illegal alien children can be identified for purposes of this litigation, their parents can be identified for purposes of prompt deportation.

Congress, "vested by the Constitution with the responsibility of protecting our borders and legislating with respect to aliens,"... bears primary responsibility for addressing the problems occasioned by the millions of illegal aliens flooding across our southern border. Similarly, it is for Congress, and not this Court, to... assess the "social costs borne by our Nation when select groups are denied the means to absorb the values and skills upon which our social order rests."

Plyer vs Doe says we have to educate them but does not mean free lunch.

Health Care: Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis is also seeing the impact of newcomers. "It's changed the demographics of the population we see," said administrator Jeff Spartz. Of the 400,000 patients served last year, 102,000 required interpreters. That represented a 25 percent increase in such services over 1999, Spartz said." 15 Source: # Duchesne Paul Drew, "From Many Lands to Minnesota," Star Tribune, January 23, 2001.

Minnesota hospitals are struggling to pay for the basic health care of the swelling immigrant population, many of whom lack health insurance. "The end result is pressure on our hospitals and pressure on property taxpayers," Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin says. McLaughlin and Ramsey County Commissioner Sue Haigh are say that the cost of medical care for uninsured immigrants is too high for local government without federal help and have called on the federal government to shift the financial burden away from local hospitals.16 Source: # Shira Kantor, "Twin Cities Urge U.S. Aid for Immigrant Medical Costs," Star Tribune, June 13, 2002.

Thanks for the help guys and gals. Still researching info myself and any help always appreciated and will always help as I can.

Thanks Dixie, we have that report already and have used it. The problem is its a bit to much of guesswork to use as ammo in the legislature w/o sounding bad. He's in need of actual numbers and specific reports that themselves speak to illegal alien costs and such rather then estimates based off needing an interpretor.

He feels the same pain as me but gotta have solid evidence to win enough support.

    Thanks!
