    Stimulus Package Stalled In Senate

Stimulus package failed to pass in the Senate. The vote was 58-41 and they needed 60 votes. I just caught this, so if anyone knows anymore about this, let us know.

What bothers me is that they are saying they failed to move forward with the expanded version. We need to watch this close to make sure they don't decide to go ahead and pass the House version that has rebate checks for illegals.

Now they're saying the Senate could take up the House version. We need to call, call, call.

This has stalled , They will not pass it because the language is
still there to allow them to give it to illegals

It will never pass as long as that is in the bill

I was under the impression the Senate version took out the checks for the illegals because of what Dominici said today. The House bill has the illegal thing in it. The Senate version stalled because it costs more.

The senate really pumped in the pork

Bush would never sign it , they can repair it or pass the
house version that has the illegal give away in it

Does it amaze anyone how they can make such a mess
out of something that should be so simple

Received this from FAIR.com this morning!!!

Senate Expected to Vote on Stimulus Package Today!
    Call Your Senators Now!
Today the Senate is expected to vote on the economic stimulus package (H.R.5140) and FAIR is asking all members, activists, and friends to take action immediately to preserve the language we fought for last week!

As we reported in our last alert, the House version of the economic stimulus package has loopholes that allow illegal aliens to receive tax rebates from the federal government. First, the House version allows resident aliens who file using Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) to receive a rebate. Because the IRS does not take immigration status into account when issuing ITINs or determining resident alien status, illegal aliens who file returns using ITINs will be able to receive refund checks from the IRS. In addition, the House economic stimulus package does not require the IRS to weed out false and fraudulent social security numbers in its system before issuing rebate checks.

Last week, the Senate Finance Committee drafted its own version of the economic stimulus bill and attempted to fix these loopholes by: (1) requiring taxpayers to have valid social security numbers in order to be eligible for rebates, and (2) barring taxpayers who file with ITINs from receiving rebate checks. According to Senate staffers, in order to determine whether a social security number is valid, the IRS will have to check the numbers against no-match information it already receives from the Social Security Administration to determine eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Reliable sources have told FAIR that when the Senate takes up the bill, there may be an attempt to water down the Senate language by stripping the provision that bars the issuance of rebate checks to individuals who file with ITINs. This would be most likely if the Senate decides to vote on the House language without amending it to include the immigration-related changes made in the Senate Finance Committee.

Please call your Senators TODAY and insist that they keep their word! Tell them that no matter which stimulus package they adopt, Congress should prohibit the IRS from issuing rebate checks to illegal aliens. This means making individuals who file with ITINs ineligible for tax rebates.
