Texas AG Says He Will Sue Federal Government Over U.N. Arms Treaty

Texas attorney general Greg Abbott said he will take steps to sue the Federal government if the U.S. ratifies the United Nations arms trade treaty Secretary of State John Kerry signed this week.
Abbott, echoing the concerns of conservatives throughout the Nation, contends that the U.N. treaty poses a threat to Americans’ 2^nd Amendment right to bear arms.
“By signing this treaty, the Obama administration has attempted to subject Americans’ right to bear arms to the oversight of the United Nations. The very reason we fought for independence was to free ourselves from the dictates of leaders in other lands,” Abbott told the American Statesman.
“We are alarmed that the president’s action today includes ‘small arms,’ which could draw law-abiding gun owners and gun store operators into a complex web of bureaucratic red tape created by a new department at the UN devoted to overseeing the treaty,” he said.
Abbott is joined by the National Rifle Association and many Republicans in opposition to the treaty because it applies to a variety of small firearms and munitions. But advocates of the treaty say that it is intended to regulate international arms sales and will not affect the ability of Americans to buy firearms.
The treaty is likely to be ratified by the Senate. It will go into effect when 50 countries ratify it; so far, 91 nations have signed the treaty, and it has been ratified by four.

Obama Hypocrisy And The Arms Trade Treaty

The hypocrisy of the Barack Obama regime knows no bounds.
Yesterday, Secretary of State John Kerry signed the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, despite warnings from 130 members of Congress and a vote of 53-46 in the Senate earlier this year to “uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.”
Among other things, the treaty bars signatory countries from transferring conventional weapons if they violate arms embargoes or if they promote acts of genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes. The treaty also prohibits the export of conventional arms if they could be used in attacks on civilians or civilian buildings such as schools and hospitals.
Even as Kerry was putting pen to paper, the CIA continued to transfer arms to al-Qaida and al-Nusra terrorists in Syria: two groups that have been raping, beheading and killing Christians; executing surrendered Syrian government troops; and beheading and shooting men, women and children they deem loyal to the Bashar Assad regime.
If that’s not bad enough, the Arms Trade treaty removes U.S. sovereignty and infringes on the 2^nd Amendment. It will regulate individual gun ownership. Signatory countries will be required to “maintain a national control list that shall include [rifles and handguns]” and “to regulate brokering taking place under its jurisdiction for conventional arms.”
By all indications, the treaty will never be ratified by the Senate, as indicated by its previous vote. But that won’t stop the lawless Obama regime from using executive actions to try to implement provisions of the treaty. Nor will warnings by Senator Bob Corker.
Obama has shown through his many actions and executive orders that he believes he is Ramses himself: “So let it be written; so let it be done.”
