    Reporting from Las Vegas —

Militant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy on Friday apologized for his comments published this week on African Americans and slavery but refused to back off from his intended point that the federal government was too powerful, saying that his remarks came “from the heart.”

In a daily news conference from his ranch in Bunkerville, north of Las Vegas, the 67-year-old rancher, who is in a prolonged battle with federal officials over grazing rights on public lands in Nevada, said he was not a racist.

“I’m probably one of the most non-racist people in America,” he said, standing on the back of a long-haul truck trailer with an American flag in the foreground.

He suggested that his comments were misinterpreted.

“I hope I didn’t offend anybody. If I did, I ask for your forgiveness,” he said in a news conference streamed on the Internet. “But I meant what I said. It comes form the heart."

In an interview with a New York Times reporter, Bundy talked about social welfare and African Americans and the corrosive effect of government subsidies.

"They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom,” Bundy said.

A public firestorm erupted. Some conservative lawmakers who had supported Bundy backed off, denouncing his statements. Harry Reid, Nevada’s senior senator and a Bundy critic, called him a “hateful racist.”

Earlier Friday, Bundy released a statement reiterating his views that the federal government was heavy-handed against all Americans.

“What I am saying is that all we Americans are trading one form of slavery for another. All of us are in some measure slaves of the federal government,” his statement said.

“And the government dole which many people in America are on, and have been for much of their lives, is dehumanizing and degrading. It takes away incentive to work and self-respect. Eventually a person on the dole becomes a ward of the government, because his only source of income is a dole from the government. Once the government has you in that position, you are its slave.”

This month, the Bureau of Land Management began to collect hundreds of Bundy’s cattle from public lands, only to back down and release the animals after armed Bundy supporters came to his side. Since the standoff with the BLM began, he has gone public every day -- with many of his addresses carried live via the Internet.

He has been joined, at times, by hundreds of so-called citizen soldiers -- many armed with semiautomatic weapons -- who have pledged to protect the rancher from government reprisals. He's been embraced by conservative commentator Sean Hannity and pilloried by comedian Stephen Colbert.

At his news conference Friday, Bundy started his speech with a joke, suggesting that he has recently put his foot in his mouth with comments that have drawn criticism nationwide from some and applause from a few.

“Sometimes I say the right thing and sometimes I say the wrong things, but I’m just happy to be here talking to America," he said. "It’s not too often a rancher gets to talk to millions of people.”

He said the standoff made him tired, but he was not tired of discussing race.

“The U.S. has an obsession about race. And I’m not tired of talking about it,” Bundy said.

He then launched into a rambling diatribe about religion as a woman in fatigue pants took pictures and a man wearing a cowboy hat and gun in his hip holster stood nearby.

Bundy also took a shot at the BLM, saying, “They do not own this land. They are a foreign group here.”

    Stay tuned.

There you go the fool thinks he is a celebrity and that is a problem because the stupidity that comes out of his mouth is not only going to hurt him but those who stand with him and their cause, the ones that made him a "celebrity."IMO He would be much better off if he STOPPED talking to America, paid his grazing fees and takes action to get the public lands back in the control of the states. This whole thing is a CIRCUS....with plenty of clowns.

Imagine, I have been harshly critical of Glenn Beck, Rand Paul, Sean Hannity and other faux conservatives in defending Cliven Bundy. Now Bundy pulls this apology crap and leaves me and many real conservatives looking like fools. You don't start waffling every time somebody pretends to be offended.

The racists hysteria is all political theater, and if Bundy had any political savvy, he would have exposed it for what it was: theater to incite hatred against him for the purpose of intimidating him into silence; he should have called it what it was "character assassination." And the conservative big mouths like Sean Hannity, Rand Paul, Glenn Beck and others were all contributing this sham, theatrical fraud fabricate by our enemies. If Bundy had any political savvy, he would have turned the charges of racism into an attack on his freedom of speech. He would have used their own slanders against them. He would have put them on defensive forcing them to deny that they were trying to silence him. He would have made himself the victim. Instead he apologized for doing nothing wrong thus creating the illusion that his attackers were right and he was wrong.

As I have said before the crisis of conservatism is that we have no effective leaders. When guys like Beck and Hannity can't figure out when the left is creating a phony scandal there is a big leadership problem. Or are they all now influenced by the hyper sensitive psychosis about not being a racists? In either case we have a crisis in leadership because these people can never be effective in the knock down drag out bare knuckle (hypothetical) brawl necessary to defeat the fanatic left. The fanatic left always, always plays dirty and aims not to defeat but to destroy their enemies. We need people like George Patton who never flinch, never waver in the fight.

We desperately need "blood and guts" fighters. Are there none among the conservative leaders (not necessarily famous) ? Will no one step forward and yell, "follow me men, charge to the sound of the cannons?" I think Jeff Sessions is such a leader but where is his support? Why does he fight without the accolades he has certainly earned? Why do we hear all of this Rand Paul as a conservative leader crap? The a real proven fighter is Jeff Sessions. Patriots speak out for this man, put his name out there. When you fight for him you fight for the cause of securing the border and no amnesty.

Google or Bing "Operation American Spring" Be in Washington DC on 16 May 2014 and demand that Obama and his junta resign, leave town and never return. This is not a call for impeachment, this is a call for patriots to DEMAND that Obama RESIGN, and not go home until he does.

Black leader says Bundy remarks not racist

Contends rancher talking about harm to African-Americans by 'leftist socialism'

    and this article

The media distorts information to the point of social division. This is a photo of myself and the resilient, often charismatic, and maybe not so tactful Cliven Bundy. He's a cowboy and a helluva family man, not an orator. One thing he definitely isn't - a racist. I found his comments to not only be NOT racist, but his own view of his experiences. Who the heck are we to determine another man's perspective on the world around him?! Just because Picasso's view of the world was abstract, does it negate the fact that his art was genuine? Furthermore, if you take the time to do your own research, you'll find that his statements about some black Americans actually hold weight. He posed a hypothetical question. He said, "I wonder IF" ... Hell, I'm black and I often wonder about the same about the decline of the black family. Bottom line is that we are all slaves in this waning republic, no matter our skin color. Mr. Bundy could have used any racial demographic as an example: Native Americans on reservations, whites in trailer parks, etc. He noticed the crippling effects of receiving government "assistance" and the long term result of accepting handouts. It's not progress at all. I challenge Sean Hannity, Rand Paul, and others to read my comment and reconsider their position in this matter. Individual liberties are at stake here, yours and mine. THAT is the issue. Don't let the liberal media and ignoramuses like Glenn Beck and that weasel Harry Reid make you lose sight of the real issue here: The federal government is a burgeoning behemoth and a bully on a once constitutional playground.

I sincerely hope you real patriots out there who can see through the smoke.

Jesse Jackson - "someone needs to cut his balls off talking to black people that why"
You have no clue what a racist is do you?
