For 15 years, from the mid 1970s to 1990, I worked in Detroit , Michigan . I watched it descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, gangs and human depravity. I watched entire city blocks burned out. I watched graffiti explode on buildings, cars, trucks, buses and school yards. Trash everywhere! Detroiters walked through it, tossed more into it and ignored it.

Tens of thousands and then, hundreds of thousands today exist on federal welfare, free housing and food stamps! With Aid to Dependent Children, minority women birthed eight to 10 and in one case, one woman birthed 24 kids as reported by the Detroit Free Press—all on American taxpayer dollars. A new child meant a new car payment, new TV and whatever mom wanted. I saw Lyndon Baines Johnson’s "Great Society" flourish in Detroit . If you give money for doing nothing, you will get more hands out taking money for doing nothing.

Mayor Coleman Young, perhaps the most corrupt mayor in America , outside of Richard Daley in Chicago , rode Detroit down to its knees. He set the benchmark for cronyism, incompetence and arrogance. As a black man, he said, "I am the MFIC." The IC meant ‘in charge’. You can figure out the rest. Detroit became a majority black city with 67 percent African-Americans.

As a United Van Lines truck driver for my summer job from teaching math and science, I loaded hundreds of American families into my van for a new life in another city or state. Detroit plummeted from 1.8 million citizens to 912,000 today. At the same time, legal and illegal immigrants converged on the city, so much so, that Muslims number over 300,000. Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan , but most work in Detroit .

As the whites moved out, the Muslims moved in. As the crimes became more violent, the whites fled. Finally, unlawful Mexicans moved in at a torrid pace. Detroit suffers so much shoplifting that grocery stores no longer operate in many inner city locations.

You could cut the racial tension in the air with a knife! Detroit may be one our best examples of multiculturalism: pure dislike and total separation from America .

Today, you hear Muslim calls to worship over the city like a new American Baghdad with hundreds of Islamic mosques in Michigan , paid for by Saudi Arabia oil money. High school flunk out rates reached 76 percent last June according to NBC’s Brian Williams.
Classrooms resemble more foreign countries than America .. English? Few speak it! The city features a 50 percent illiteracy rate and growing. Unemployment hit 28.9 percent in 2009 as the auto industry vacated the city.

In this week’s Time Magazine October 4, 2009, "The Tragedy of Detroit: How a great city fell and how it can rise again," I choked on the writer’s description of what happened.

"If Detroit had been savaged by a hurricane and submerged by a ravenous flood, we'd know a lot more about it," said Daniel Okrent. "If drought and carelessness had spread brush fires across the city, we'd see it on the evening news every night. Earthquake, tornadoes, you name it — if natural disaster had devastated the city that was once the living proof of American prosperity, the rest of the country might take notice.

But Detroit , once our fourth largest city, now 11th and slipping rapidly, has had no such luck. Its disaster has long been a slow unwinding that seemed to remove it from the rest of the country. Even the death rattle that in the past year emanated from its signature industry brought more attention to the auto executives than to the people of the city, who had for so long been victimized by their dreadful decision-making."

As Coleman Young’s corruption brought the city to its knees, no amount of federal dollars could save the incredible payoffs, kick backs and illegality permeating his administration. I witnessed the city’s death from the seat of my 18-wheeler tractor trailer because I moved people out of every sector of decaying Detroit .

"By any quantifiable standard, the city is on life support. Detroit 's treasury is $300 million short of the funds needed to provide the barest municipal services," Okrent said. "The school system, which six years ago was compelled by the teachers' union to reject a philanthropist's offer of $200 million to build 15 small, independent charter high schools, is in receivership. The murder rate is soaring, and 7 out of 10 remain unsolved. Three years after Katrina devastated New Orleans , unemployment in that city hit a peak of 11%. In Detroit , the unemployment rate is 28.9%. That's worth spelling out: twenty-eight point nine percent."

At the end of Okrent’s report, and he will write a dozen more about Detroit , he said, "That's because the story of Detroit is not simply one of a great city's collapse. It's also about the erosion of the industries that helped build the country we know today. The ultimate fate of Detroit will reveal much about the character of America in the 21st century. If what was once the most prosperous manufacturing city in the nation has been brought to its knees, what does that say about our recent past? And if it can't find a way to get up, what does that say about our future?"

As you read in my book review of Chris Steiner’s book, $20 Per Gallon, the auto industry won’t come back. Immigration will keep pouring more and more uneducated third world immigrants from the Middle East into Detroit —thus creating a beachhead for Islamic hegemony in America . If 50 percent illiteracy continues, we will see more homegrown terrorists spawned out of the Muslim ghettos of Detroit . Illiteracy plus Islam equals walking human bombs. You have already seen it in the Madrid , Spain , London , England and Paris , France with train bombings, subway bombings and riots. As their numbers grow, so will their power to enact their barbaric Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government, first amendment rights and subjugates women to the lowest rungs on the human ladder. We will see more honor killings by upset husbands, fathers and brothers that demand subjugation by their daughters, sisters and wives. Muslims prefer beheadings of women to scare the hell out of any other members of their sect from straying.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The city of Detroit was long on the way to ruin before the Arab's ever were in the picture. I used to work downtown on Woodward Avenue right after I was graduated from high school and got there by riding the bus from the north east side of the city. This was the early 60's and felt completely safe in doing so. My brother went to Cass Tech High School , one of the premier high schools in the nation which was located downtown and also took the bus to school. We'd never dream of doing that today. Mayor Young came to power and everything changed. He was very vocal in saying he wanted "whitey" out of Detroit (talk about your racist!). When the crime got so bad and nothing was being done to stop it the white population left along with their tax base and the city was on the fast track to destruction.
If any one thing can be blamed on the ruin of Detroit (or at least the start of it) it was Mayor Young's hatred of the white folks who lived in the city he believed should be for blacks only. My mom lived for 53 years in the same house I grew up in until 2000. She was the last white person left on the block by then. She had many very nice black neighbors who watched out for her but when her garage was burned down that was the last straw. She'd been broken into, attacked in her own home but stayed until this last bit of vandalism drove her out. Everything that happened to my mom and the part of Detroit I grew up in had nothing to do with immigrants or foreigners. It breaks my heart when I see what has happened to my home town, especially when I go to Boston or Chicago on business and see how those cities have survived and thrived. I don't know the answer to Detroit 's problems at this stage in the game but I can't see any future for what was a great city.

My wife is from Detroit , and her mother and older brother still live in the area - Warren and Clinton Township , respectively. I've also visited there quite a bit over the years, as you can imagine.



I just read this piece, and while I agree that there has been an influx of foreigners into Detroit , possibly even illegals (I frankly don't know what those stats are), they are but a small part of what brought Detroit to the state it's in today.



You commented that, "...as the Muslims moved in, the whites moved out." I would suggest that the verse might actually be the case: as the whites moved out, the Muslims moved in.


As you mentioned in the article, twenty years of Coleman Young dishing out taxpayer-funded goodies to his buddies, along with steadily rising numbers of welfare parasites contributed to the mess. Add to that the unions driving manufacturing jobs out one after the other, and you have a clear path to the current situation.


Illegals may have played a part, but, at the risk of sounding "racist," it was trivial compared to the role played by the "minority" community.


Illegal aliens are, indeed, bringing our country down. But they're not always the main culprit in every area with a problem.

1. Just to give you an idea of how dumb Mayor Kilpatrick was: sometime around 2003 the Mayor decided to charge $300 a year for bulk trash pick up in the city. Before that it was free. By picking up some of the hard to get rid of items such as old kitchen cabinets and sawed off tree branches the city was able to free itself of a lot of litter. Because many of Detroit's residents are illiterate (and by illiterate I mean being completely unable to read "Milk $1.89 a Gallon" at a grocery store) many of the bills and notices for the $300 dollar yearly fee went completely unread. Also, many of those who got and understood the city trash bill simply refused to pay it all the while putting trash and garbage out by the street anyway! Soon the huge piles of garbage forming around houses and stores gathered in huge drifts like huge snow mounds and became breeding grounds for rats, insects and feral dogs. Some enterprising home owners started throwing their garbage onto the lots of abandoned houses. Mayor Kilpatrick eventually had to conclude that forcing someone to pay $300 for free garbage removal was just not going to work...

"Detroiters reacted with outrage and a measure of disbelief to Kilpatrick’s proposal for the 2006-2007 fiscal year to charge households a whopping $300 a year—or $25 a month, billed quarterly—for the basic city service of curbside trash collection. 2. One of Detroit's hospitals has a free dental clinic that refuses to treat White people needing emergency dentistry.


3. Do not visit a gas station at night in Detroit, especially if it is in a neighborhood where the street lamps have been knocked out. This is a favorite spot for muggers.


4. Be careful driving on the service drive that goes along the side of Southfield freeway. Some of these service drives lead into dangerous neighborhoods where car jackers are waiting for drivers who get lost.


5. If you are looking for a job in Detroit, read the fine print before attending a job fair. Many of Detroit's Job Fairs are "minority only" meaning you will be refused admission if you are White.


6. Mayor Young's plee to free Detroit of White people was taken too seriously by some of its residents who found that a good way to drive out White people was intentional arson of their houses.


7. During Martin Luther King Day local television news broadcasts will show films of White cops beating Black students in-between commercials, all day long!


8. Lewis Farrakhan often speaks to Detroit to packed stadium crowds preaching that "the White Man is your enemy".


9. Keep your car windows rolled up whenever you drive inner city traffic. If your windows are rolled down and you stop at a stop light, someone will will run up to your car, reach into the window and grab anything available. Some motorists have even had guns pulled on them at stop lights.

10. Be careful of this common scam: if you are driving and someone in another car pulls up beside you and points in panic to you that something is happening to your car, like a gas leak, do not pull over. Muggers use this ruse to get people to pull off the road so they can rob them at gun point.

11. Detroit street repairs are some of the most incredibly awful you will ever see, including huge pot holes AFTER construction is done! A construction worker told that me skilled crew frequently refuse to work in Detroit because of the huge incidence of armed attacks on construction workers. Duing the night road building supplies and tools are stolen, meaning that in some parts of Detroit some road repairs get started but never get finished.

WOW, good honest article, you got to love Frosty! There are so many cities this could pretain too, especally many in Calif.

Shoot, Frosty oughta go where I just moved my uncle from. 7 Mile and Hoover. My grampa and gramma bought the old house in 1946, and it was a nice little city type neighborhood. Fast forward to 2009, and their old house has 28 pock marks on the south side of the house alone where bullets hit the brick and mortor.

Standin' outside the place last March, and an SUV comes up the street, with a guy hangin' out the passenger's window taking pot shots with a rifle at anything that moved. Had to duck behind the cars before the fool spotted me.

But on an average night, after sundown, you can stand outside the side door and hear 15 to 30 gun shots in 10 minutes sometimes.

Detroit is a prime example of what happens when there's too much government, corruption, and mob mentallity, along with all the other crap mentioned above.

Oh yeah, even the Catholic church my parents were married in, and I was baptised in now sports a cresent moon over it. The auto industry is done here for the most part. It about brings tears to your eyes. No matter how tough you are.

And my Mom's old neighborhood looks more like newsreel footage from the aftermath of the Battle of Stalingrad. Sophie's little general store where all my uncles worked as kids delivering groceries for 25 cents a pop, looks like it should have a machine gun nest in it. Houses burned out, and the bad ones get bulldozed, but nothing gets built in it's place.

It was utterly heartbreaking to see it. But nobody wants to do anything to fix it. Corrupt city officials like Quami Kilpatrick and Monica Conyers who are the most recent to fall from grace, just kept up more of the same.

Detroit Financial Emergency Decision Rests With Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder

DETROIT — In less than a month, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will decide whether the state will take over Detroit's broken finances and send in someone to oversee the city's fiscal recovery.

Regardless of Snyder's decision, the question may not be who can save Detroit, but how can Detroit be saved.

The city's options are limited, with experts split on what may be best: long-term, methodical restructuring with help from the state or cutting the city's losses now through municipal bankruptcy.

Detroit, with a population of about 700,000 residents, would be the largest city to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy if that path is taken, according to James Spiotto, a municipal bankruptcy expert at the Chicago-based Chapman and Cutler law firm.

"Chapter 9 is meant to be the absolute last resort ... when all else fails and you are no longer capable of working with the state or anyone else to bring about a resolution," Spiotto said. "It would have an adverse effect on the credit market, not only for that municipality, but also for the state."
About 640 Chapter 9 bankruptcies have been filed since Congress enacted a revised Municipal Bankruptcy Act in 1937.

Recent cities that have filed for bankruptcy include San Bernardino, Calif., which took that route in August after learning it had a $46 million deficit. The largest municipal bankruptcy filing in U.S. history involved Jefferson County, Ala., which had more than $4 billion in debt when it filed in 2011. The most populous city in the U.S. to do so was the 290,000-resident Northern California community of Stockton, in June.

Detroit faces more than $14 billion in long-term liabilities, has a near-zero cash flow and a skyrocketing budget deficit that now is listed conservatively at $327 million, according to a state-appointed review team that looked at Detroit's books.

"Rome fell because it went broke, and France faced a national revolution when it went broke," said James McTevia, president of a Michigan-based firm that specializes in turnaround management. "If an emergency financial manager is not appointed immediately, the city should file for bankruptcy at once. The city's debt needs to be restructured."

The review team found that Detroit was in a "financial emergency" and forwarded its report to the governor. Snyder said he would carefully review the team's findings before deciding whether to appoint an emergency manager. If he does, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing would have 10 days to request a hearing.

Bing, who opposes a state takeover, has said that without an influx of money from the state, any emergency manager would face the same frustrations he's endured. Bing also opposes taking the bankruptcy route, but he says his restructuring plan approved last year by the state has been hindered by legal and other roadblocks.

"We have the plan, but we face significant challenges executing it in a timely manner," the mayor said Wednesday. "We are hindered by several factors, including the city charter, labor agreements, litigation, governmental structure, and a scarcity of financial and human resources."

Snyder called a news conference Thursday afternoon in Detroit to discuss the process. The governor's staff said he would not announce any decisions.
Bing, who was elected in 2009, has yet to say whether he will seek re-election.

Tom Barrow, an accountant who ran twice for Detroit's top office, said an emergency manager would usurp Detroit's control over city finances, spending and assets. Barrow, who lost to Bing in 2009, is considering another mayoral run this year.

Bankruptcy would keep the elected mayor and City Council in power, Barrow said.

"This is more about control than restructuring," Barrow said about the emergency manager option. "If we go into a Chapter 9 that will minimize the influence of the state. All of a sudden they become a secondary player.
"Under Chapter 9 the city runs itself, enters into agreements with creditors and bond holders."

Those actions would be overseen by a bankruptcy judge.
The city can pass a resolution for bankruptcy protection on its own, but that would have to be approved by the state and filed by an emergency manager, Barrow added.

Tonya Phillips, who grew up in Detroit and lives on the city's east side, said she is resigned to the idea of some form of outside intervention.
A deal between Bing and Snyder nearly a year ago promised some state resources and expertise if the city met certain milestones and deadlines. The City Council gave its OK to the agreement but was slow in approving some outside professional contracts tied to it.

The state, in turn, initially held millions of dollars in bond money in an escrow account that Detroit needed to meet payroll and pay some other bills.

"I hope the city and the state can come to an agreement that doesn't involve an emergency manager so the Democratic process won't be compromised," said Phillips, an attorney. "If the city cannot achieve it on its own and if the state isn't able to assist in any other kind of way – and the jury is still out on that – I think the city will have to explore (bankruptcy)."

JoAnn Watson: Meet the Racist Whackjob Detroit City Council Chick Demanding Obama Bailout

When I first saw the video, yesterday, on local Detroit news, of Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson demanding an Obama bailout because of Black votes for Obama, I knew it would go viral. But it’s hardly a surprise to anyone who has followed the whackjob Watson as I have over her long “career” as a Black supremacist and Detroit politician. She never met a race card she didn’t play. But that’s par for the course when it comes to the People’s Republic of the Detroit City Council. It’s no shocker that Obama is now planning to come to Detroit to pimp his plan to raise taxes on the wealthy. That plays well with the folks who elected Watson and her ilk.

As I’ve previously noted on this site, Watson canceled a contract for a Black boxer to get paid ten bucks an hour to train young Black boys in a boxing . Her reason: the Black former pro boxer wasn’t Black enough because he lived in a Detroit suburb where White people live, instead of Detroit (from which Blacks are leaving in droves). As I noted then, this boxer would have been the only father figure most of these kids would ever have in their lives, but JoAnn Watson made sure that would never happen. Watson loves herself and her racism so much that she spells her first name two different ways (“JoAnn” and “Jo Ann”).

Watson made a career of racial politics and regularly attending Nation of Islam events in Detroit as an honored guest of Louis Farrakhan. She also serves on the board of the Detroit NAACP, which honored Rev. Jeremiah Wright, even after all of his anti-Semitic, racist, pro-HAMAS, bigoted sermons came to light. And Watson voted for and strongly supported “Black-only” contracts and empowerment zones (which she called “African Town”) in Detroit. Yup, that’s the way to get Detroit out of the never-ending dung hole it’s in, right?

If you live in the Detroit area, stories like this are a dime a dozen. But they illustrate exactly why Detroit will never recover from its desperate situation and why things will only become more desperate. The people of Detroit elect bigoted Afro-centric racists like JoAnn Watson over and over and over again. And even with a reasonable Mayor like Dave Bing–who is essentially a Republican in Democratic clothing–nothing good will ever happen because people like Watson run the show. In this case, even a Black man,Claude Strickland of Motown Boxing Club, can’t win because he doesn’t live in the right decrepit zip code for Ms. Watson.

boxer Claude Strickland had applied to coach the sport for children ages 7 to 18 for Detroit’s Recreation Department.

But when the $10-an-hour contract reached a City Council committee Thursday, Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said she wouldn’t support spending Detroit tax dollars on someone who lives outside of the city.

Strickland lives in Sterling Heights.

Watson said it wasn’t enough that Strickland, who coaches amateur boxers across the country, served 26 years as a Detroit police officer before retiring in 2004. He has also taught the sport to children on his own time.

“I’ll change my mind if he moves to the city,” Watson said. The committee tabled a decision until Thursday.

So, Strickland is supposed to buy a house in Detroit to make a measly $10 per hour (before taxes for giving young boys in Detroit something positive to do? Absurd.

With more than 70% of Detroit boys born to single mothers, Strickland might have been a great father figure–the ONLY father figure–in these kids’ lives. But, hey, why give Black kids on the streets of Detroit something to do with their time and their lives that doesn’t involve crime, drugs, or having kids out of wedlock, when we can just keep things as they are and shun those who want to help because they don’t live in the People’s Republic of Detroitistan?

By the way, in the past, Ms. Watson, a former employee of Congressman John Conyers (D-Marxism), has supported Black-only contracts and empowerment zones in Detroit. The woman is not only a racist, but now even race is not enough and she’s stepped up to a more elite(ist) level: zip-codist.

And, actually, my headline is wrong because they don’t only go out of their way to screw themselves in Detroit . . . but also to screw us. When the Detroit “leaders” behave in this way, the crime and other social problems they help breed cross over the Detroit border. And the whole country pays in tax dollars thrown at the problems.

Yup, the people who run Detroit are of the same mindset as the government officials in “Brazil.” And there is no Robert De Niro around with a black market to fix your heating andair conditioning vents. D-Mecca . . . It’s Orwellian.
