JP--This article is so outstanding, I strongly recommend that you create a TOPIC and name it "LATINO HISPANIC CAUCUS IN CONGRESS OPPOSES CAFTA".

Everyone needs to see this and they may miss it as a post. If it's a topic, everyone will see it and be able to fnd it for future reference.

    Know your enemies :
    1) Council on Foreign Relations - which is the sponsor of the ...
    2) Independent Task Force on the Future of North America - which is dedicated toward dissolving our borders.

"Independent", because it is a private organization, composed of persons who have not been elected to represent the people and who have not been appointed by elected representatives.

Yet, the "Independent Task Force" is the group which will "make policy recommendations to articulate a long-term vision for North America." These recommendations will likely be given a lot of weight, because 23 of the 46 members come from Big Business, which means Big Bucks are behind these "recommendations."

    Findings and recommendations:
Know the objectives of your enemies and their timeline.

Build a North American economic and security community by 2010.
We will only have 2 national elections (in 2006 and 200 before their targetted date. Thus, our objective should be to send a large number of heads rolling down Capitol Hill in both national elections.

Create the institutions necessary for a North American community. The chairs propose annual summit meetings among the three countries and the creation of a North American Advisory Council to prepare for and implement the decisions made at the summits.
So, it sounds like we can soon add to the list of enemies, the "North American Advisory Council," which will "implement the decisions made at the summits" (without input from American citizens or our representatives.) These decisions will attempt to facilitate the creation of a "North American community."

Since we'll all be one happy community, we won't need these silly immigration laws dividing the US from Mexico. That would be like having immigration laws separating one US state from another. Aren't you relieved that the "illegal immigration" problem will be resolved this way?

Enhance North American competitiveness with a common external tariff.
Mexican farmers will not be protected from the Ag-Biz farm products that are dumped into their country. US workers will not be protected from cheap-labor producers in Mexico. This may enhance the "competiveness" of corporations, but will reduce the competitiveness of individual workers.

As a matter of their own national interests, the United States and Canada should assist Mexico by establishing a North American Investment Fund, designed to channel resources for the purpose of connecting the poorer parts of the country to the markets in the north.
In other words, we need to share our jobs with Mexico, because that it is in our "own national interest." Furthermore, we need to "channel resources" (i.e. spend tax dollars) in order to facilitate this sharing of jobs.

The "Independent Task Force on the Future of North America" is composed of 3 evil organizations (really evil ) They're all supported by Big Business.
    1) Council on Foreign Relations
    2) Mexican Council on Foreign Relations
    3) Canadian Council of Chief Executives
Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is an independent, national membership organization ... [composed of]... individual and corporate members...

The Mexican Council on Foreign Relations ... is financed exclusively by membership dues and corporate support.

Founded in 1976, the Canadian Council of Chief Executives is Canada's premier business association ... composed of the chief executives of 150 leading Canadian enterprises ... [led the]... "development and promotion of the" ... "North American Free Trade Agreement."
The Task Force establishes a blueprint for a powerhouse North American trading area that allows for the seamless movement of goods, increased labor mobility, and energy security.
Great, we'll get to work in Mexico. And we'll also get to share more US jobs with our fellow North American citizens from the Southern part of our big, happy community.

"We are asking the leaders of the United States, Mexico, and Canada to be bold and adopt a vision of the future... They could be the architects of a new community of North America, not mere custodians of the status quo."
This sounds very exciting. I can't wait to live in this "new community" which will be designed by our corporate leaders. (<- irony - noted for the "irony-challenged")

Expand temporary worker programs and create a "North American preference" for immigration for citizens of North America.
    Spread benefits more evenly:

    * Establish a North American Investment Fund to build infrastructure to connect Mexico's poorer regions in the south to the market to the north.
JP has a good summary :

The elites do not care what we think. We will only succeed by applying tremendous pressure. Our government will only stop the "free trade agreements", when our elected officials feel they have no choice.

--- (I can't recall where this quote came from, but I think it's very uplifting.)

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus did make some good points :
[As a result of NAFTA], 1.3 million small to medium-size Mexican farmers have been forced off their land because they were unable to compete with large multi-national producers. For those concerned about our "broken borders", the CHC asks that you think of this: the employed farmers and agricultural workers of 10 years ago have become the undocumented immigrants of today.

If this agreement [CAFTA] ensured the Rule of Law, and created a transparency in the governance of the nations involved, perhaps we would support it. Unfortunately, it does not.

It is our strong belief that CAFTA will only continue to broaden the gap between the haves and have-nots.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is comprised of 21 members of Congress of Hispanic descent.
From watching Lou Dobbs, I learned that 20 out of the 21 CHC members will be voting against CAFTA. I get the impression that quite a few CHC members voted for NAFTA. So, CAFTA has considerably less support within this caucus, which is a good sign.

Just thought I would bring this topic back up to remind people what we are against with this "Free Trade" Stuff. This might also help educate some of the newbies to the board.
