Trump Administration Deploys Dozens Of DHS Agents To Guatemala-Mexico Border

Trump Administration Deploys Dozens Of DHS Agents To Guatemala-Mexico Border

If President Trump's decision to impose tariffs on Mexican imports and withhold aid money from Central America were examples of the stick, then the White House is following up with a surprising carrot. After Trump's surprise tariff announcement triggered a steep selloff in markets on Friday, it appears the administration is pivoting to a novel new strategy: Sending dozens of DHS agents and investigators to Guatemala to try and stem the tide of unauthorized immigration.

First reported late Friday by the Washington Post, Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan has reportedly lobbied heavily to take a more "muscular" approach to working with local governments to solve the root cause of the immigration crisis. According to a memorandum of understanding with the Guatemalan government signed by McAleenan, approximately Customs Agents and DHS investigators will be deployed to Guatemala to work side-by-side with local police. US agents will help train local police, as well as assist in "law enforcement actions" to improve criminal investigations, to try and break the stranglehold that powerful drug gangs have on society.
The agents will be deployed along the Guatemala-Mexico border, where they will focus on some of the poorest areas of the country. US troops are expected to carry weapons, and, according to WaPo, in what appears to be a trial run, DHS agents helped Guatemalan police arrest nine suspected smugglers in Guatemala City.
"The U.S. and Guatemala are formalizing a number of initiatives to improve the lives and security of our respective citizens by combating human trafficking and the smuggling of illegal goods, helping to limit 'push' factors that encourage dangerous irregular migration to the U.S., perpetuating the ongoing crisis at or border," McAleenan said in a statement, after signing a "Memorandum of Cooperation" with Guatemalan officials.
"Other areas of cooperation include increasing the security of the Guatemalan border to stem the flow of irregular migration while ensuring proper preparation to improve the ability of both countries to identify and better understand their root causes," according to DHS.
WaPo points out that there is a legal precedent for sending American personnel to Central America: The DEA has been doing it for years. But those operations are typically much more limited in scope. Seeing that the deployment looks similar to the military's use of American 'advisors' in parts of the Middle East, we can't help but wonder. Have fears about boots on the ground in Venezuela been misplaced? Could Central America be a more likely candidate for American military intervention in this hemisphere?

There's not much to figure out. There's only like 2 or 3 roads and a railroad track to get the invaders out of Southern Mexico. What are the DHS agents going to tell the Mexicans? Set up road blocks? That's a no brainer. These roads don't even look like 4 lane interstates either. They look like 2 lanes. How hard would it be to stop most of the invaders from getting out of Chiapas State assuming this Commie President would stop handing them transit visas's. and allowing them to travel North. He's probably getting paid off to allow this situation to go on.

They give them Transit Visa's because the corrupt Mexican government ALSO makes money off of that, knowing FULL WELL, they will be dumped over OUR border.

Mexico should not be trusted. Put the screws to them, get them off our soil.

Enforce Public Charge and ramp up deportations.

Lying, thieving, despicable people with NO morals. What a bunch of cowards. If they had any dignity at all they would sell out, pack up and go home and make Mexico and Central America Great instead of beggars who mouth off in our streets, commit crimes against us, like disgusting parasites who we owe nothing. Good going, I don't know how they can even look at themselves in a mirror for doing this.

I wish we could build a big giant beautiful Panama Canal that is very wide and very deep from the Gulf to the Pacific to cut them off! And create a new shipping channel.

They are the neighbors from hell.

They need to clean up their act, start respecting themselves, stay home and solve their own problems instead of dumping them on other countries. It is repulsive.

Their President is as much of a corrupt despot as all those before him with NO desire, no brains, and no wherewithal to clean up that cesspool. How pathetic, that he now has the power to command change and EARN respect, not only from his own people, but those around the world and show it can be done.

You earn respect...they do not have mine until they stop dumping these people and their problems on our backs to deal with.

DEPORT EVERY ONE OF THEM AND THE 25 MILLION WHO DO NOT BELONG HERE!

WE WANT NONE OF THIS HERE!
