Trump to Announce Carrier Plant Will Keep Jobs in U.S.

Trump to Announce Carrier Plant Will Keep Jobs in U.S.

    By NELSON D. SCHWARTZ NOV. 29, 2016

From the earliest days of his campaign, Donald J. Trump made keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States his signature economic issue, and the decision by Carrier, the big air-conditioner company, to move 2,000 of them from Indiana to Mexico was a tailor-made talking point for him on the stump.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor and the vice-president elect, plan to appear at Carrier’s Indianapolis plant to announce they’ve struck a deal with the company to keep a majority of the jobs in the state, according to officials with the transition team as well as Carrier.

    Trump and the Carrier Factory

In February, a video went viral showing furious workers in Indianapolis learning their jobs would be going abroad.

Good Jobs, GoodbyeWhen Jennifer Shanklin-Hawkins saw Donald Trump talking about the factory on the news, all she could do was shout “Yessss!” at the TV. “I loved it,” she said. “I was so happy Trump noticed us.” (March 2016)
Can Trump Save Their Jobs? The day after the election, Paul Roell headed straight to the plant before sunrise, bleary-eyed but euphoric. “I don’t watch sports, but this was my World Series,” he said. (Nov. 13, 2016)

Mr. Trump will be hard-pressed to alter the economic forces that have hammered the Rust Belt for decades, but forcing Carrier and its parent company, United Technologies, to reverse course is a powerful tactical strike that will rally his base even before he takes office.

In exchange for keeping the factory running in Indianapolis, Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence are expected to reiterate their campaign pledges to be friendlier to business by easing regulations and overhauling the corporate tax code. In addition, Mr. Trump is expected to tone down his rhetoric threatening 35 percent tariffs on companies like Carrier that shift production south of the border.

Roughly 10 percent of United Technologies’ $56 billion in revenues comes from the federal government, with the Pentagon its single largest customer. Its Pratt & Whitney division, for example, supplies the engines for the Air Force’s most advanced fighters and host of other planes.

While Carrier is best known for its air-conditioners, it also sells a variety of other heating and cooling equipment for homes and small businesses, like the furnaces and fan coils made at the Indianapolis factory.

Trump Reaches Agreement With Carrier To Keep At Least 1,000 American Jobs In US

    Aleister Nov 29th, 2016 7:57 pm

Is anyone sick of winning yet?!

President-Elect Donald Trump is not even president yet and he’s already saving American manufacturing jobs.

    CNBC News reports:

President-elect Donald Trump’s team has reportedly reached a deal to keep hundreds of Carrier jobs in Indiana.

CNBC cited sources in reporting the deal with United Technologies Tuesday evening, which will keep close to 1,000 factory jobs at the Carrier plant in Indianapolis. The network says the deal will include new inducements from the state and was spearheaded by Vice President-elect Gov. Mike Pence
    .

Carrier confirmed the deal with a tweet:

We are pleased to have reached a deal with President-elect Trump & VP-elect Pence to keep close to 1,000 jobs in Indy. More details soon.

    — Carrier (@Carrier) November 30, 2016

Here’s what Trump promised back in March:

Will mainstream media give Trump credit for already saving more American jobs than President Obama has in his entire eight years?

    He did it!

Carrier Employee Issues Heartfelt Thank You To Trump For Helping 1,000 American Workers Keep Their Jobs

Robin Maynard, a 24-year Carrier employee, issued a heartfelt thank you to Donald Trump and Mike Pence during a Wednesday morning interview on Fox News.

News broke Tuesday evening that Trump had brokered a deal to prevent Carrier from moving 1,000 jobs to Mexico, and Maynard told “Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy that he’s unbelievably grateful for Trump’s intervention.

“I would like to tell him thank you for going out of your way and taking your time away from your family, working on the Carrier and employees’ deal,” Maynard stated. “Sticking to your word and going to bat for us all at Carrier and keeping our jobs here. I’d like to thank him and Mike Pence for doing it so quickly.”

Maynard added that he hadn’t expected “an announcement for three or four weeks, and we’re what? Two days from the meeting with them, and they’ve already made their announcement?”

“I’m very excited and would like to thank both of them personally and shake their hands hopefully tomorrow.”

While this is great news for those 1,000 employees, what about the taxpayers? It would be nice to know what was promised from Indiana and the federal government. Don't mean to be a pessimist, but think I'll hold off on the excitement until all deal details are made public, Has anyone heard anything on what 'deals' were cut?

These are our dear Americans who work so hard and smart and make such great products who are grateful for what Americans have always cared about most .... good jobs.

I'm so glad what Trump has done has worked out for the Ford Motor Company employees in Kentucky (despite the CORRUPT MEDIA never taking the time to understand what happened there) and in Indiana with Carrier and United Technologies.

But these two are only two out of thousands ready to announce and leave. Our new policies must be implemented as soon as possible, there must be assurances to these companies on the "Flee Train", that the tax plan will happen, Obamacare repeal and replacement will occur, regulations will be reduced, and Trump and Congress WILL create consequences for leaving our country only to back-haul products into the US.

Trump needs to hold a big conference of the largest manufacturers and their suppliers and speak to them, talk Turkey, lay it on the line and explain how things must work to keep as well as bring our jobs back, why it's so important because I don't think some of them really understand the harm they're doing, they need to understand the damage these horrible decisions to leave our country has caused, the foundation of our economy and they've abandoned US yet want access to our market and money. It's insanity. Yet at the same time, I understand why they want to Flee. We have to fix the reasons they Flee, then create consequences for doing so. They have to be corralled, herded back to home base, but rewarded and protected.
