Political career[edit]
Navarro ran for office in San Diego, California, three times.
In 1992, he ran for mayor, finishing first in the all-party primary, but losing to Republican Susan Golding in the runoff.[5]
In 1996, he ran for the 49th Congressional District as the Democratic Party nominee, but lost to Republican Brian Bilbray.[6]
In 2001, Navarro ran in a special election to fill the District 6 San Diego city council seat, but lost in the primary.[7]
In 2016, Navarro served as a policy advisor to the Donald Trump presidential campaign.[8][9]
On December 21, 2016, Navarro was selected by President-elect Donald Trump to head a newly created position, as director of the National Trade Council.[10]
Personal life[edit]
Navarro is married to architect Leslie Lebon (born March 6, 1961). They reside in Laguna Beach, California.[11]
