Trump expected to announce end to Obama-era DACA, official says

President Trump, as early as Friday, is expected to announce plans to end the Obama administration program that gave a deportation reprieve to hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants, a senior administration official told Fox News.

Trump promised to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, during the presidential campaign -- but since taking office had left the door open to preserving parts of it.

According to the official, Trump is expected to announce the program's end but will allow so-called “dreamers” currently in the program to stay in the U.S. until their work permits expire – which, for some, could be as long as two years.

The program, also known as DACA, was formed through executive order by then-President Barack Obama in 2012 and allows for certain people who came to the U.S. illegally as minors to be protected from immediate deportation.

Recipients are able to request “consideration of deferred action” for a period of two years which is subject to renewal.

The plan to allow DACA to lapse already has buy-in from conservative groups that want the president to end the program.

“Our position has been that President Trump should allow DACA to lapse,” Ira Mehlman from the Federation for American Immigration Reform told Fox News. “As people's two-year deferments and work authorization expire they should not be renewed.”

In an interview with ABC News this spring, the president earlier suggested he might not entirely do away with DACA.

“They shouldn’t be very worried,” Trump said of the young people in the program. “I do have a big heart.”

We have so many problems of our own, poverty, excess medicaid usage we can't afford, 60% of students in public schools qualifying for free school lunch, $20 trillion in debt, gangs, drugs, killer narcotics, 87 languages being spoken in Nashville public schools, unaffordable charity hospitals, wages too low for too many to live on, small businesses strangled by Obamacare, big business still seeking offshore locations because they can't or won't pay outrageous corporate income taxes, natural disasters of our own to deal with, a Do-Nothing Congress, a CORRUPT MEDIA, Witch Hunts all over the place to take down our President, bad trade deals flooding our country with foreign goods at the expense of our own citizens and industries, these problems are HUUGE, and very difficult to solve at this point, so the LAST THING WE NEED OR WANT is a bunch of illegal aliens of any age or circumstance swarming our nation with their hands out for jobs, benefits, space, housing, resources, and "rights".

Incorrect! DACA is not a formal Executive Order. DACA was illegally created out of thin air by memos... just memos to agencies with illegal and Constitution violating orders to give Amnesty and jobs to illegals!

Rachel Campos Duffy, wife of Sean Duffy and part of Libre Initiative is on FOX News saying that people want the security of the border and then they are open to compassion for those brought here as children through no fault of their own. The panel highlights the comments by President Trump about "heart" for illegal aliens under DACA.

She says Hispanics look a lot like Republicans. (My response to her - Ha!). They align with democrats and will vote with democrats. They won't turn their backs on the millions of illegal alien family and friends that would be sponsored or given amnesty in the future.

DACA illegal aliens and democrats want the bigger amnesty and together they can achieve it with the White House. Give them DACA or dream act legislation and you betray the American people, families, workers, citizens.

STEM Graduates: The United States is losing its competitive edge in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) industries to other countries whose system of hiring foreign-born STEM graduates is less complicated and bureaucratic. Universities in the United States have been unable to produce enough U.S. born STEM field graduates to satisfy the industries operating in our country. LIBRE supports a policy that gives high-tech companies the incentive to do business in the United States by providing unlimited visas for the best and brightest foreign-born doctoral and master degree STEM graduates from American universities who wish to work in the United States.
5. Border Security: The focus of U.S. border security should be to defend against people that present risks to national safety, as determined by Congress, and not those who simply want to work. By providing a modern and commonsense process that would allow immigrants to enter and work legally in the United States, we believe that there will be less criminal activity along the border from cartels that currently capitalize on the black market of unauthorized immigration.
