Trump: I'm considering Giuliani to head commission on immigration

    By Nolan D. McCaskill
    05/11/16 09:26 AM EDT

Donald Trump is considering naming former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani to head a commission on immigration, he said Wednesday.

Asked about his proposed temporary ban on Muslims during a telephone interview with Fox News, Trump said under his administration the U.S. would look at immigration and study the problem. The real estate mogul added that “very bad things” are going on because the country doesn’t know who’s flowing into its borders.

“Now, if you don’t want to discuss the problem, then we’re never gonna solve the problem,” Trump said.

“It's a real — it's a real problem, not only here but throughout the world,” Trump said, after launching into criticism of President Barack Obama’s refusal to say “radical Islamic terrorism.” “It's a real problem. So we'll figure it out, and we will get it going.”

Trump cautioned, however, that the U.S. would have to be careful.

“We have to be extremely careful,” he said. “In fact, I'm thinking about setting up a commission perhaps headed by Rudy Giuliani to take a very serious look at this problem. But this is a worldwide problem. And we have to be smart.”

Giuliani voted for the now-presumptive Republican presidential nominee in New York’s primary last month but distanced himself from endorsing Trump for fear of people thinking he’s involved with the campaign.

I heard the interview and he was talking specifically about Muslim immigration in that interview where Guiliani would head up the Commission, obviously because of his experiences and knowledge from 9/11.

Trump needs to stop announcing other New Yorkers and New Jersey politicians as his main stays. He needs to announce Jeff Sessions as his running mate then work on getting different known anti illegal immigration anti amnesty types from other states and regions!

Yes, both Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani are both known amnesty supporters.

Trump Looks to Giuliani to Solve Muslim 'Problem'

    Judy is correct

Donald Trump said Wednesday he has been thinking about setting up a commission, "perhaps headed by Rudy Giuliani" to examine the "problem" with undocumented Muslims coming into the United States.

"There are obviously some very bad things going on, and we're going to figure out what's going on and we're going to be very, very careful," Trump told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program during a discussion about his upcoming meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday.

Trump didn't elaborate on his call for a Giuliani-led commission to study terrorism. However, in December, when the GOP presumptive nominee called for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims" coming into the United States, the former New York City mayor came out strongly against the idea, calling it an "absolute violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution."

"You cannot use religion as a basis for discriminating, and honestly, there's no factual basis on which to assume that the vast majority of Muslims are terrorists," Giuliani said at the time.

However, Giuliani has since come out in support of Trump's bid for the presidency.

Trump has said the ban would be temporary, but on Wednesday told Fox News that the United States is allowing Syrian refugees to enter the nation with "no idea who they are, we have no paperwork. There's no documentation."

And, he said Muslims are "pouring into the country, our country by the thousands," pointing to other countries like Germany and Sweden, which have accepted refugees and now have a "total mess."

"I'm going to be extremely vigilant and careful," said Trump, emphasizing that he ban would be temporary.

"We have a problem," said Trump. "If you don't want to discuss the problem, then we're never going to solve the problem. We have a president that won't even use the term radical Islamic terrorism. He won't use the term. He refuses to say the term, even after Paris where 130 people were killed or San Bernardino or any other place."

Politico was way too vague. Not good reporting imo.

I agree, Jean, and thank you so much for finding an accurate article to clear that up. He was talking about Rudy heading up a Commission to deal with the Muslim immigration, not immigration in general like that first article implied. The press is so dishonest. Trump's absolutely right about that. Like he is on virtually everything.

Sessions already said he does not want to be VP. http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/jeff.../07/id/722836/
Since Sessions does not want to be VP, I think Trump should make him the new senate majority leader to replace McConnell and Lou Barletta should replace Ryan as speaker of the house.
As to VP, I think an effective strategy would be to choose a woman VP to take away the anti-woman ammunition Hillary plans to hammer Trump with via millions and millions of dollars in negative ads. Some ideas I had for Trump's VP was senator Deb Fischer or congresswoman Marsha Blackburn. Both have grades from numbersusa comparable to Trump's grade. A female governor might be a good choice too, but since numbersusa does not grade governors, it's hard for me to figure out which one would be the ideal choice.
I also think Trump needs to counteract the 3rd party conservative candidate they plan to run against him, if he doesn't I worry he might lose. He could do that by getting a progressive candidate to run third party against Hillary. Perhaps a celebrity he knows with enough name recognition to draw enough votes away from Hillary to even things out.

There are many good candidates for VP. For me, though, I'm ALL IN for Scott Brown, due to his legislative experience, military experience, first to endorse Trump, supports Trump's policies on immigration and trade, very loyal, articulate, competent, well-educated, charismatic, tough, smart, the total package to me is a winner as Trump VP. I think he'll do very well with the national vote and more importantly, he'll do a great job as VP for Trump.

He may not want it, but if he does or would accept, I think he would be great.

Chris Christie is no different on illegal immigration than Hillary Clinton. New Jersey is out of control and touch with all of the abuses brought on by illegal immigration. Christie has no business in a Trump administration if Trump is serious about illegal immigration.
