Under a Donald Trump administration, there could be at least one way for people here illegally to avoid deportation: Join the military.

Asked whether plans to join the armed forces might provide a path to legal residence, the Republican presidential nominee said it was likely.

"I could see myself working that out, absolutely," he said Wednesday in New York at the "Commander in Chief Forum" hosted by NBC. "Military is a very special thing.

"It would be a very special circumstance," he said.
Throughout the Republican primary, Trump insisted that anyone in the country illegally would be deported under his administration. He also questioned the constitutional guarantee of U.S. citizenship to anybody born here.

In recent weeks, however, he has dialed back, saying that mass deportation is unlikely and that he would focus on immigrants without legal status who have criminal records.

Trump has said he opposes President Obama's executive action known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which allows exemptions from deportations to some young people in the country illegally.

Those who have served in the military are eligible, though federal courts have halted applications.

No. Stop digging amnesty ideas out of the trash can. Be your own man, Keep America first and it's people.

Everyone else go home, fix your own country, serve there in your military.

Illegal aliens from Mexico can join their military or protect their side of the border.

If Donald Trump does what he says about rebuilding the military and its assets, many more Americans will volunteer knowing they will be a priority under his administration.

Geez, as of late it seems Trump is purposely attempting to figure out ways to provide an amnesty to illegal aliens. This crap has got to stop here and now! There is no defense for this behavior. The man is flopping all over the place on the issue of amnesty for illegals. Giving amnesty to those joining the military is wrong on so many levels. Why is Trump damaging his chances in the 23rd hour? Either someone is giving him very bad advice or he's just not thinking before speaking. Whichever the case, he needs to stop it now. NO AMNESTY!!! :mad:

Illegals should not be allowed in the military. Military positions should go to Americans only.

It ought to be a crime subject to military jurisdiction for illegal immigrants to try to enlist in the military. It ought to be considered an act of espionage.

Is the military supposed to be a job Americans won't do?
