EXCLUSIVE POLL: Trump will be tough to beat in Georgia

ATLANTA -- An exclusive 11Alive poll conducted by SurveyUSA shows Donald Trump marching through Georgia on Super Tuesday with a significant win.

The poll was completed after Trump's wins in Nevada and South Carolina. With just five days until Georgia's primary, Trump leads the Republican race with 45 percent of the vote. Marco Rubio pulls in 19 percent of the vote, and Ted Cruz comes in third with 16 percent. All other Republican candidates came in at single-digit numbers.

Analysis of the poll shows it will be difficult for either Rubio or Cruz to pull off an upset in Georgia. Trump is backed by 51 percent of voters considering themselves "strong Republicans", 47 percent of conservatives, and 46 percent of moderates.

"I love the poorly educated," Trump said in his Nevada acceptance speech.

He polls highest among Republicans in voters with a high-school education (57 percent), voters earning less than $40,000 a year (52 percent), and seniors (49 percent).

While Rubio runs strongest among affluent Republican primary voters, he doesn't exceed 25 percent support in any voter demographic. SurveyUSA pollsters conclude that "it will be hard for him to catch Trump, barring something completely unforeseen."

Cruz's strength is in Republicans considering themselves "very conservative" and who are "falling behind" financially. Trump beats Cruz 2:1 among evangelical Christians and 5:2 among members of the Tea Party.

In the Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton will defeat Bernie Sanders 66 percent to 27 percent. The two candidates run almost even among white Georgia voters, but Clinton leads 4:1 among African Americans and Hispanics.
