Trump May Skip Fox Debate for Own Town Hall

    Sunday, January 24, 2016 10:55 PM
    By: Greg Richter

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump might skip Thursday's debate on Fox News Channel and hold his own televised town hall at the same time if the network doesn't drop Megyn Kelly from its team of moderators, his campaign manager tells New York magazine's Gabriel Sherman.

Trump has been calling on Fox News to drop Kelly, who is scheduled to moderate with two other Fox anchors, Chris Wallace and Bret Baier. The trio moderated the first GOP debate of the season, in which Kelly and Trump sparred over a question about his treatment of women.

Trump objected to the question and criticized Kelly for it the next day. When he said she had "blood coming out of her wherever" he was accused again of attacking women, though he said he was meaning it was coming out of her ears.

Trump took up the feud again last week with a serious of tweets saying Fox shouldn't allow Kelly on the debate stage because she is biased against him. Fox responded that Kelly would not be removed from the team of moderators.

Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, told Sherman that Trump might not attend the debate if Fox doesn't relent.

"Let's see what happens," Lewandowski said. "It’s fair to say Mr. Trump is a significant ratings driver for these debates. If we aren’t on stage for some reason, they wouldn’t have the record 24 million viewers and would be back with 1-2 million people."

Trump might even hold his own town hall event at the same time as the debate and offer it to Fox's competitors, Lewandowski said.

"That would be a great idea," he told Sherman.

I totally support this plan. What Megyn Kelly did in that first debate was so wrong she should not be Moderator again and Fox should not receive the advertising money off Trump when they tried so hard to destroy him. They not only tried to hurt Trump, they hurt women because they used a false flag, a private comment that should never have been published that was taken totally out of context and then used to try to discourage women from supporting a candidate who will do more for women than any President in decades by fixing our economy and bringing home great jobs for them to support themselves and their families.

I thought Trump handled that situation (Kelly) and many others that followed very well when he was called out on it by the press. This is a possible view to how he will handle situations as President. Someone who will not back down or back pedal if a few feathers are ruffled which is what this country needs right now. Is it also possible at this point in the GOP debate cycle that there are still too many candidates on the stage going nowhere (wasting precious time) and Trump recognizes this? This is also an aspect of his negotiating style. If he opts out, I am sure the cameras will be focused on him.

Nice post, joe s. Trump knows he's the reason he draws millions to the debates and probably thinking why should I continue to do that for networks, moderators and candidates who can't draw it themselves and only want to attack him in return? Very rationale question.

Both Megyn Kelly and Glenn Beck have destroyed any appearances of being fair or balanced. Their personal vendettas against Trump are so apparent it is a real turn off for almost all viewers and listeners.

You are right on about these attacks on him which counterintuitively may have actually helped him by cementing his base and broadening his appeal.

The Trouble with Megyn: Trump Says ‘Maybe I Know Too Much About Her’

    by ALEX SWOYER
    25 Jan 2016
    Washington, DC

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he “probably” would participate in Fox News’s GOP primary debate on Thursday, but he added that “nothing is 100 percent” because debate moderator Megyn Kelly is “very biased.” He added, “Maybe I know too much about her.”

“I’m not 100 percent, I’ll see,” Trump stated during the interview on Monday. “If I think I’m going to be treated unfairly I’ll do something else. But I don’t think she can treat me fairly, actually. I think she’s very biased and I don’t think she can treat me fairly.”

“But that doesn’t mean I don’t do the debate,” Trump clarified. “I like doing the debates. I’ve won every single debate according to every single poll … so I want to do the debates, they’re good for me. But I don’t think she can treat me fairly and I’m not a big fan of hers. Maybe I know too much about her.”

Trump said of Kelly, “I don’t like her.” He went on:

"I might be the best thing to ever happen to her. Whoever had even heard of her before the last debate? But I thought she was very unfair in the last debate. A lot of people said I won the last debate, everyone said I won the last debate, but I’m not a fan of Megyn Kelly. I don’t like her and she probably doesn’t like me and that’s OK. But she better be fair."

A Fox News spokesperson responded to Trump’s comments to the The Hill: “Sooner or later Donald Trump, even if he’s president, is going to have to learn that he doesn’t get to pick the journalists — we’re very surprised he’s willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly,” the spokesperson said.
