Koch brother: Trump plan would 'destroy free society'

    By David Wright, CNN
Updated 11:38 AM ET, Fri January 8, 2016

    Story highlights

    • Charles Koch is one half of the political kingmaking brothers who have pledged $900 million to back Republican candidates this election cycle
    • Asked about Trump's proposal for a registry of Muslims in the U.S., Koch said, "Well, then you destroy a free society"

(CNN)GOP kingmaker Charles Koch said he is "disappointed" by the field of 2016 Republican candidates and sharply criticized the rhetoric and policies put forth by front-runners Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

Koch, who along with billionaire brother David famously pledged to spend $900 million supporting Republicans in 2016, expressed dissatisfaction with the GOP primary thus far during a lengthy interview with the Financial Times published Friday.

Asked about Trump's proposal for a registry of Muslims in the U.S., Koch said, "Well, then you destroy a free society ... Who is it that said, 'If you want to defend your liberty, the first thing you've got to do is defend the liberty of people you like the least?'"

Koch also panned Cruz's aggressive strategy to fight ISIS, which has included calls for "carpet bombing" and declarations that Cruz would direct strikes until "sand glows in the dark."

"I've studied revolutionaries a lot," Koch said. "Mao said that the people are the sea in which the revolutionary swims. Not that we don't need to defend ourselves and have better intelligence and all that, but how do we create an unfriendly sea for the terrorists in the Muslims communities? We haven't done a good job of that."

Noting that 1.6 billion Muslims live around the world, Koch asked, "What are we going to do, go bomb each one of them?"

Later in the interview, Koch said he was unimpressed by the rest of the Republican field.

"It is hard for me to get a high level of enthusiasm because the things I'm passionate about and I think this country urgently needs aren't being addressed," he explained.

And though the Kochs' political operation has highlighted their priorities to the candidates, "it doesn't seem to faze them much," Koch said. "You think we could have a little more influence."

The Koch brothers have said they will not endorse during the primary, and plan instead to save their considerable financial firepower for the general election and the eventual Republican nominee.

Koch Brothers Spread the Wealth Among GOP Candidates

By Loren Gutentag | Wednesday, 21 Oct 2015 08:32 AM

Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are the most popular presidential candidates among the Koch brothers' conservative donor network, each receiving contributions from more than 12 percent of 190 donors and their families, the Hill reports after analyzing records.

The billionaire brothers, Charles and David Koch, oversee the most influential group of conservative donors and activists in the United States. And, according to the Hill, the network will play an influential role in the 2016 presidential election.

The powerful network has yet to settle on a candidate for president, however, after front-runner Donald Trump referred to Republicans who attended the Koch's summer donor retreat as "puppets," the networks dislike for the real estate mogul has become apparent.

Out of the 190 attendees of Koch donor conferences, records show that not one contribution has been made to Trump's campaign.

One donor, billionaire Stanley Hubbard, noted: "This idea of 'I don't need to have any funding, I’ll fund myself,' that scares the hell out of me.

"That’s like a dictator. I think that any politician should have to answer to their constituents. … I don’t think it’s healthy to have somebody who doesn’t answer to anybody."

While members of the network plan to spend at least $300 million, so far they have spent $22 million "supporting everyone from foreign policy hawks Rubio and Lindsey Graham to Medicare-defender Mike Huckabee to establishment candidate Bush and Tea Party favorites Cruz and Rand Paul."

While the media and Democrats tend to paint a "shadowy" picture on the motives of the Koch network, Koch donor Chris Rufer, a 66-year-old libertarian, told the Hill that if the public could see inside the donor events, they would no longer hold such a negative opinion.

"If [the biannual donor conference] was televised, people would have tears in their eyes, [because of] what is trying to happen and what his motivations are," Rufer said.

"Being Lenin, Hitler or Hillary or Bush. … It all ends up with the power being in these few elites. Charles [Koch] is against elites."

Pro-Amnesty Billionaires start to pick their candidates

    By Newsmachete

Republican billionaires who support amnesty for illegal aliens are starting to pick their candidates. Sheldon Adelson is supporting Marco Rubio, and it looks like the Koch brothers are supporting Scott Walker.
    First, Sheldon Adelson:

Before Iowa and New Hampshire, GOP candidates are competing in the Sheldon Adelson primary, and some will travel to his posh Venetian hotel in Las Vegas this weekend in hopes of winning it. But one candidate — Marco Rubio — has emerged as the clear front-runner, according to nearly a half-dozen sources close to the multibillionaire casino mogul. Since entering the Senate in 2011, Rubio has met privately with the mogul on a half-dozen occasions. In recent months, he‘s been calling Adelson about once every two weeks, providing him with meticulous updates on his nascent campaign.
Adelson is passionate about amnesty for illegal aliens.
Las Vegas hotel magnate and prominent GOP donor Sheldon Adelson believes all of the country’s illegal immigrants should be put on a path to citizenship and given driver’s licenses and bank accounts while on that path.
And so is Marco Rubio! He sponsored a bill that would have provided amnesty to illegal aliens, and just a few days ago told Jorge Ramos (in Spanish, of course) that he wants amnesty for "Dreamers" to continue.
And then there are the Koch brothers.
Charles G. and David H. Koch, the influential and big-spending conservative donors, appear to have a favorite in the race for the Republican presidential nomination: Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.
On Monday, at a fund-raising event in Manhattan for the New York State Republican Party, David Koch told donors that he and his brother, who oversee one of the biggest private political organizations in the country, believed that Mr. Walker would be the Republican nominee.
The Koch brothers want amnesty for illegal aliens too:
Guess who is putting up lots of money to pressure House Republicans to pass a massive amnesty and immigration increase bill similar to the one Reid championed in the Senate? That would be none other than the Brothers Koch.
In recent weeks Scott Walker has come out strongly for and against amnesty for illegal aliens.

You can often tell where a candidate stands by who stands with them.

CNN’s Begala: The Koch Brothers Can’t Control Donald Trump, But They Can Control Marco Rubio [VIDEO]

Rubio Mocks Trump's Slump: Election Is No Longer About That 'Freak Show' (Getty Images)

Former advisor to Bill Clinton and CNN commentator Paul Begala said, “I don’t think the Koch Brothers feel like they can control Donald” Trump but they could control Marco Rubio as president.

Appearing on “The View” Friday, Begala claimed, “The Koch Brothers could get a return on their investment with Marco Rubio.”

Begala said, “I don’t think it’s about winning. I think it’s about control if he does win. I don’t think the Koch brothers feel like they can control Donald. Donald can’t control Donald. I mean, no, he’s the only guy I know who needs, depends on his mouth. But it’s working for him.”

S.E. Cupp who was also a guest on “The View” Friday said Koch’s want to put their “smart money, safe money, behind a candidate who can [win]. And I think they think Marco Rubio would be the best contrast to someone like Hillary Clinton.”

Begala thinks that the Koch Brothers are “in a lot of controversial industries that pollute.” And with Rubio, he would be their ideal candidate because “he wants to roll back environmental protections, that’s good for them. He wants to cut taxes on the rich, they’re rich.”

Cupp explained though that the Koch Brothers are “large philanthropists. You’ll see their names on Lincoln Center and cancer centers. But they are super influential in the Republican party. So the party is looking to who they’re backing seriously.”
Cupp called it a ” big coup” for Rubio to get the support from Koch Brothers.

Trump has claimed multiple times that because he is “self-funding” his campaign, he cannot be bought by the lobbyists and special interests.

Trump Accused of Backing Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants in TV Ad

    By REID J. EPSTEIN CONNECT

The latest TV ad broadside against Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump features footage of him backing citizenship for undocumented immigrants after his campaign launched and accused him of profiting from illegal workers.

The new 60-second ad is part of a $1 million Iowa TV ad buy from Our Principles PAC, an anti-Trump group run by former Mitt Romney aide Katie Packer.

It begins by noting that Mr. Trump is skipping Thursday’s Fox News debate in Des Moines because “Trump can’t handle tough questions, like why he’d let millions of illegal immigrants stay in America and even supports a pathway to citizenship.”

Mr. Trump has made staunch opposition to illegal immigration a centerpiece of his campaign. In his mid-June announcement speech he referred to Mexicans as “rapists” and has since proposed deporting some 11 million undocumented people.

But the ad contains footage from a late June Chicago appearance in which Mr. Trump appears to favor allowing illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

“You have to give them a path and you have to make it possible for them to succeed,” Mr. Trump says in the ad. “You have to do that.”

Mr. Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The ad comes as Mr. Trump has taken a lead over rival Ted Cruz before Monday’s Iowa caucuses, the first nominating contest in the Republican presidential contest.

Mr. Cruz on Wednesday launched his most pointed attacks to date against Mr. Trump, reminding voters in West Des Moines that the New Yorker once supported abortion rights, gay marriage and the 2009 economic stimulus packaged pushed by President Barack Obama.

The advertisement concludes by accusing Mr. Trump of using illegal workers to build his namesake hotels in New York and Washington.

“Why does Trump support amnesty? Maybe because Trump makes big money off illegal immigrants,” the ad’s narrator intones. “Amnesty for illegal immigrants. Big money for himself. Can conservatives trust Donald Trump?

Thank you for posting that, JohnDoe2.

"try" isn't a "promise" as has been misrepresented by so many ....

"good ones" isn't "all" as has been misrepresented by so many ....

It's a softener until public support comes round to support the end game, to get them the hell out of here.

Facts are stubborn things. Misrepresenting the actual positions of the front-runner of the Republican nomination for President is counter-productive and I hope that ends Monday night in Iowa. It would have been nice if such a thing never started, but the sooner it's brought to an end, the better for our cause, our citizens and our country.

    STAY TRUE!! STAY TRUMP!!

IOWA TRUMP SUPPORTERS!! BRING IT HOME MONDAY NIGHT AND KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK FOR DONALD J TRUMP!!

On the phrase "Open Society" that is the dream of multiculturalists. Karl Popper wrote a book, Plato and The Open Society and Its Enemies. And then there is George Soros and his Open Society Foundation. They are going to do away with borders, passports and such. It is in essence existential genocide. This must be stopped.

Pat Buchanan advocated that we put a moratorium on immigration for 40 years. We need to return to the 1925 Immigration Act, rescind the 1965 Immigration Act. We need to preserve our people. We have enough diversity: we have our American Indian, our indigenous Mexican population, the Creoles, Chinatowns and the American Black. We also have Philpinos and a Vietnamese population. That is enough. We need to think about ourselves, the WASPs and preserve our country.
